It was not that I had forgotten what Noct had done to me. Certainly, this incident would have been so significant if I had not met Noct.
But still, Noct was not to blame. I was. I am the wrong one. I chose to interact with him and chose to accept him. Even if it was rigged, ultimately, I was the one who made the decision.
That was why I could not put aside killing Noct as just『no choice』. How selfish, greedy, and self-centered I am. Although I could do nothing on my own. I still chased hope all the time. I must be a fool more than anybody else.
Because I knew how selfish I was being, in the end, I could not say anything. I could not pick between Edi and Noct. How selfish of me. I could only bite my lips behind the barrier. The man’s morning glow colored eyes saw me. In his eyes were not the firm resolution I had expected, but just calmness. Why does he have such eyes? I was lost for words. The man looked back at the large wolf again, and continued speaking.
「Filmina. Don’t just think that you’re the only one whom treasures Noct」
「……What? 」
Before I could ask him what he meant, the man gazed at the large wolf and continued.
「Noct. You fool. Even if you forgot the contract with me, don’t tell me you forgot the promise you made with Filmina」
Promise. From this word, I remembered what I had said to Noct when we were still in the capital.
—-One day when this child is born, could you read this book to this child?
I definitely had said so to Noct. It was a one-sided and forced promise. Yet, Noct had nodded. 「I don’t mind」, he had said. When I told this to the man later on, the man nodded 「why not」. It was unusual for him to do so. 「Why don’t you make him read the whole series? 」. The promise I had made with Noct was a dream and wish I hoped would come true one day.
Had the man’s words reached him? The large wolf that had been just struggling on the floor suddenly stopped moving. Transparent tear droplets spilt from its bloodshot eyes. They were tears that were no different from that of a human.
「Noct…… 」
Had my soft murmur reached his ears? While spilling more tears, the constrained head turned towards me. Currently, I certainly saw that the previously bloodshot eyes had reverted back to Noct’s original yellow crystal eyes with human conscience. Seemingly, the man had also noticed the change in Noct’s aura. His morning glow colored eyes shifted from the wolf to me.
「Filmina, let’s fetch Noct」
The moment I noticed his wand’s magical sphere gleaming brightly, the barrier that I could not break no matter how much I punched disappeared in front of me. Surprised, the demon widened her dark eyes. I did not care about her. Immediately, I ran from that place to the side of the man. Naturally, his arm wrapped around my waist as if consoling me. Accepting this, I looked up to his face.
「What do you mean, fetch him? 」
「We are going to dive into his subconscious and directly go fetch his original heart. It is the most effective and quick method」
The man said so easily, but for a beginner of magic like me, I could not help but be surprised. Oh, you could do such a thing? Yet, I did not think that the man would lie or bluff right now. Then, I looked at the large wolf which was still pinned down onto the floor by the purple-lightning-like light. How I wished to wipe its tears that spilt onto the floor from its beautiful yellow eyes. I naturally thought.
「What are you doing! Do you think I would let you do so……!? 」
Before the demon could finish saying so, the light from the man’s wand’s magical sphere attacked her and blasted her far away. He did not stop there. The morning glow colored light transformed into a rope, and pinned the demon onto the wall as if crucifying her. While looking at the demon moving about trying to escape the constraint, the man snorted his nose. Then he narrowed his morning glow colored eyes.
「Stay there obediently. Shut up and observe」
Then, the man wrapped his arm around my waist and raised the wand with his other hand. The magical sphere that is the same color as his eyes gleamed brightly, and a morning glow colored light wrapped the large wolf and me.
「Let’s go, Filmina」
「Yes! 」
Then my sight was swallowed by the morning glow colored light.

—-When I came to my senses, my surroundings were filled with darkness.
Where is this place? Before I could think so, somebody’s arm wrapped around my waist. I could not help but tremble my body. But sensing the familiar warmth and the aroma of the herbs and fragrances that I was used to; I loosened my tensed body.
「Edi…… 」
「Yes. Don’t worry. I am here」
Upon hearing his beautiful voice echo throughout the darkness, I lifted my face. There I saw the white beauty as I had expected. Even though it was so dark, yet his face still gleamed brightly. Amongst the multitudes of fairies, the fairy of the night is known to be the most beautiful. Well, the man’s beauty was equal to or if not more beautiful than this fairy of the night. I could not help but think, ah we shan’t need a light, huh. But I remembered that now is not the time for such jokes.
Taking advantage of the man holding my waist, I cuddled into his body. Then I looked around.
「Edi, where is this place? 」
「As I mentioned earlier, we are in Noct’s subconscious. I had delved our consciousness into it. In reality, our bodies are in a state of sleep. Of course, I had placed a barrier around us. That said, the demon is still of high-rank amongst her kind. My magic that binds her won’t last too long. We shall hurry. We shall find Noct from here, and drag him outside」
「Y, yes. But, that said…….」
Where did we need to start looking for Noct in this boundless darkness? Apparently, the question was very obviously conveyed in my expressions. The man was about to open his mouth to answer my question. But instead, his thin lips closed without making a sound. Then, the man’s morning glow eyes shifted to what was in front of us. By reflex, I also looked in front. There was.
「…..A wolf? 」
Nobody answered my soft mutter. A large wolf stood in the direction of our gaze. It had a splendid whitish silver fur coat that gleamed even in this darkness. Was it Noct? Noct had said he was partly a werewolf. Perhaps this wolf is also another of Noct’s form. However, the large wolf that Noct was after being transformed by the demon had black fur. It was not whitish silver like twinkling stars like this.
Besides, whitish silver is the color of—— whilst I intently gazed at the wolf, the man muttered softly: as I had expected. Apparently, he had come to a certain understanding or finally gained the answer to a question. Anyhow, he had finally reached a single conclusion. His voice conveyed so. I tilted my head and looked up at his face.
「Edi? 」
「I shall explain later. Let’s follow it for now」
Wrapping his arm around me, he summoned his favorite wand into his other hand. As if it had waited for him to say so, the wolf turned around and walked towards the deeper darkness. Supported by the man, I followed it. Eventually, I felt as if “something” was jolting my head with great magnitude.
After a while, I finally realized that this “something” was somebody’s voice. It was a voice that had layers and layers of voices that was a man’s, a woman’s, a child’s, and an elderly’s. This unknown voice echoed inside my head. I trembled my body upon hearing this voice. This was because this voice was speaking insults that were characterized with so much hatred and fear.
——You disgusting demon! Why can’t we kill him!
——Why was such a monster born in our village!
——It is an unwanted child that was born by devouring its mother’s life! Don’t come down from the mountain!
What terrible words they were. How mean of them. My body shivered at how the words did not convey any bit of warmth. The man hugged me tighter with his arms, but that alone did not stop my shivering.
What was this? I did not even need to question so. Undoubtedly, these words must be the spoken blades that had been hurled at Noct throughout his life.
The morning glow light gleamed once again. The whitish silver wolf cried softly. Then, an unfamiliar sight was screened in front of my eyes. Without being told, I naturally inferred that it was a scene from Noct’s memory.
