Chapter 212
Even though there was a sudden attack by the Tenkeiki, who were likely still under the control of Kyoukaikun until just a few moments ago, we and everyone on Korato’s side managed to survive the first wave without suffering any casualties.
The Tenkeiki had challenged Kyoukaikun to a close-combat fight, expecting to kill him, but they were now engaged in a fierce, dance-like battle of gunfire and sword slashes with one of their own, the only one of the seven to remain loyal to Kyoukaikun’s commands.
From the looks of it, the one still on Kyoukaikun’s side seemed to have slightly higher combat abilities than the ones attacking us. It was most likely their commander, or a newer and more improved model.
For me, it would be better to stay close to Prince Sperion, as he is the most important subject of my escort mission.
The Tenkeiki held blades of bluish white light in their hands, and their expressionless faces showed absolutely no emotion as they moved in to cut us down, but all of them were blocked by the low level diversion magic that I unleashed, and by Lynette, who was swinging hard with the long mace in her hand.
The Tenkeiki, who were once created, and then sealed away, under the whims of the Celestial Beings, were now revived to be used by Korato. Lynette had been deeply troubled about facing them just earlier, but now she was mindlessly working hard to fight off the Tenkeiki who were threatening me, her master.
Fumu, in her head, that was what she meant to do, but in her heart, it was clear that she was hesitant to attack to the point of killing the Tenkeiki, who possessed their own thoughts and will.
「If having doubts is proof that you have a heart, and if being contradictory is the greatest trait of being human, then Lynette, I congratulate you now」
I faced the three Tenkeiki who had their guns pointed toward me, and released a magic spell that had just enough power to keep them in check. Since the Tenkeiki’s equipment was the product of advanced technology that far surpasses the current civilization, and even if they didn’t possess any souls, they still boasted defenses that couldn’t be beaten, even by high class mages.
「Explosion!」
The Tenkeiki were swallowed up by the explosion I had created, so they jumped backwards in an attempt to put some distance between us, while they protected themselves with a defensive force field.
Fumu, it was worth putting in the effort to fine tune my power just enough to make them wary.
It seems the rectangular planks floating behind the Tenkeiki had a built-in mechanism that interfered with gravity, allowing them to move softly and quickly in the air without touching the ground, unbound by the chains of gravity.
When the Tenkeiki jumped out of the explosion, they were attacked by Lynette, who was wielding her vicious blunt weapon, and the Tenkeiki noticed and just barely caught the swing of her mace with their plasma blades.
Due to the thorough genetic adjustment, the power output of their fusion reactors, and the power coming from the rotation of their chakra, the Tenkeiki possess an inhuman amount of strength, but the power that Lynette has in her slender arms surpasses even that.
The clash between Lynette and the Tenkeiki did not last for more than a second, and the Tenkeiki were blown away at a subsonic speed, but other Tenkeiki caught them and barely managed to stop their momentum.
Although she is being supplied some power from me, even with just the output from the perpetual engine built into Lynette, she was far more stronger than any of the Tenkeiki.
In order to maintain their stability and quality as weapons, the Tenkeiki seemed to be restricting their chakra, but if some of them could individually raise the power of their chakra by rotating it faster, I would have had to feel a little more threatened.
In the body of the average person of the human species, there are seven invisible spiritual organs that produce chakra. Those which are called disks or wheels, and whether or not it spins actively or not has a great deal to do with the amount and quality of their chakra, also called chi or prana.
The seven chakra organs are located at the crown of the head, between the eyebrows, in the throat, chest, navel, crotch, and the perineum. In particular, the one at the top of the head is an opening to a corridor to a higher spiritual world that transcends the three dimensions of the physical world, where one can train their soul, which leads to the acquisition of powers similar to divine power.
If the Tenkeiki had been able to rotate the entirety of their chakra and handle power on the level of Christina’s divine power, I might not have left Lynette to handle the vanguard by herself, but there was no need to worry about that.
As long as there is no soul residing in them, the Tenkeiki could only turn their chakra as fast as the Celestial Beings had decided in their settings. Although they could generate power of a superior quality and quantity compared to that of an ordinary human being due to their chakra being artificially enhanced, that level of power is still not enough against Lynette.
「Lynette… Mace!」
The mace, which was named with Lynette’s usual naming sense, blasted away one of the Tenkeiki again, and a large crack appeared in their protective armor.
Deciding that they could not harm us without defeating Lynette first, and that their current equipment was insufficient for fighting against Lynette’s super heavy, long-handled weapon, the Tenkeiki changed their weapons in an instant into long spears, pole axes, and halberts.
「Lynette Spiral Attack! Lynette Full Swing Mace! Lynette Screw Strike! Lynette Bull Smash! Lynette, uh… Mince Maker!」
Lynette was as flexible as a leopard, as light as a monkey, and as magnificent as a bear, while she moved swiftly through the piles of rubble, and the sound of each of her strikes echoed around us, deafening our ears with the clash of metal.
Fumu, there would be no problems letting Lynette deal with this. I decided to ask His Highness what action we should take next.
「Your Highness, Lynette is subduing the Tenkeiki for us. I can join her in the fight, but first, ensuring your safety is the top priority」
「Yeah, it’s because you have to do that, that you haven’t left my side to lend assistance to Lynette yet. However, it pains me to say this, but in this situation, we have to consider joining forces with Lord Kyoukaikun.
We need to understand the difference between the Tenkeiki who remains by his side, and the ones who are attacking us, and we need to find out who is involved behind the scenes in this situation with Korato」
「From what I’ve seen of their side, this seems to be an unforeseen situation, but if that is the case, I definitely want to confirm first whether this was caused by forces within Korato who want to eliminate Kyoukaikun, or whether this was a scheme hatched by Todorokuni」
This wasn’t something that could be proven immediately just by talking with Kyoukaikun, but it would be intolerable to just return home without talking to him.
We offered up a prayer to the God of War Aldeath, that Mister Segmen believes in, and waited for him to grant us his blessing for this battle. Then we ran toward Kyoukaikun and the others, stepping over all the rubble and debris.
Looking from Kyoukaikun’s side of things, in this situation where they are being attacked by their own Tenkeiki, we knew that we would inevitably be suspected as well if we got too close, and as expected, the military officers protecting him turned menacingly toward us when we got closer.
Well, that’s how it is. The Tenkeiki on Kyoukaikun’s side was a little ways off, fighting in a fierce battle against two other Tenkeiki. Fumu, it looks like joining with Lynette would be impossible for now.
