Beast Tamer Who Got Kicked Out From the Hero’s Party Chapter 242
CHAPTER 242: WHAT LIES BEHIND THE CONSPIRACY
Rain and his companions gave up on resisting and were meekly taken away by the authorities.
To prevent them from escaping, each one of them was placed in a separate carriage during transportation.
They were also fitted with magical locks and chains that would inhibit their natural abilities and seal away their power.
Not only that, but a small barrier was also deployed around them by the joint effort of Rin and Mina.
It was a really inhumane barrier, the one that would continuously sap away at the strength and vitality of its target.
Normally, the use of such a thing would not be allowed, but……
Since Rein’s party consisted mostly of Ultimate Species, they were allowed to use it as an exception.
Rain and the others were unable to do anything about it and were transported directly to the royal capital.
「Kukuku……」
Arios was smiling this entire time, as if he couldn’t resist it.
Even though there were still people watching him closely.
But he managed to stifle his look of amusement, but even so, he couldn’t hold it all back and it would occasionally slip out.
「Ah, that’s really refreshing!」
Rin looked really pleased with herself.
It was like years of hidden grudges and resentment had been lifted off of her shoulders.
「Rin, you really need to be a little more selective with your words. You need to say and do things that are appropriate for a member of the Hero’s Party.」
「Yeah, I know, but, hey, can you really blame me for feeling that way? I mean, that asshole was really pissing me off a whole lot.」
Earlier, when Rein and Arios’ party clashed……
Rin was utterly destroyed and humiliated by Tanya.
She was finally able to get rid of the resentment from that time.
It was impossible for her not to be pleased with herself.
Mina also seemed to have some sort of hidden resentment towards Rein and his people, but at the very least she was not so open with showing it like Rin was.
In Mina’s case, unlike Rin, she had a strong feeling that she was able to bring heavenly punishment to the fools who insulted the Hero’s Party.
「…… Hmph.」
As for Aggath, he didn’t seem to have any particular feelings about this at all.
He would simply remain expressionless this entire time…….
Crossing his arms and leaning against a suitable tree, he watched the course of events simply unfold without interfering.
After a quick check on his companions, Arios moved to the tent.
When he was all alone, he smiled again.
「Aha…… Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! A~~~HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!」
He couldn’t stop himself from laughing.
How hilarious this was!
What a splendid and elating feeling that was!
How positively wonderful!
Arios thought back to the look on Rein’s face.
The look on his face when his companions were being captured, helpless and trapped like a rat he was……
Just thinking back on it made Arios feel entirely fulfilled.
「Ahh, yes, oh yes! It’s been so long! I wanted to see that expression on his face for such a long time now! And I finally got to see it! …… Kukuku! What a wonderful day today is!」
Arios then gently stroked his cheek.
Even now, he was still able to remember the pain he felt when Rein hit him to the face.
A chosen being, a Hero, was defeated by a mere Beast Tamer……
The humiliation that he had experienced on that day was etched deep into Arios’s very soul.
But now he was able to relieve some of that resentment.
But this was not the end.
Now that Rein and his companions have been captured, they would be brought to justice.
And once that would happen, Arios would simply continue to take away from him, until there would be nothing left.
And in the end he would……
「Please excuse me.」
Arios was in the middle of indulging himself in his dark little fantasies when he heard a voice right behind his back.
It was Monica.
When did she come in here?
For a moment out there Arios’s mind was filled with doubts, but then……
He simply stopped thinking about it, as there was no reason for him to do that.
Right now he was filled with a sense of accomplishment from what he had been able to do to Rein and his party, and he didn’t think that any of the little things would matter that much right now.
「You look as if you are in a pretty good mood.」
「Well, I guess. At last, I was able to punish that fool for his insolence! It’s not the end of the world, but rather the beginning of it and I’m glad to have taken the first step towards my bright future! So yes, you can say that I am very pleased with myself.」
「I’m glad to hear it.」
「Thank you, Monica, it was all thanks to you. You are the one who chased Rein in a corner with this idea. I want to thank you for that. What do you want in return?」
「Oh now, I couldn’t possibly ask you for anything, Arios-sama.」
「Oh my, you are certainly a humble one huh? Well, I guess that’s a virtue in its own right, huh?」
Arios then laughed and took out a certain pair of glasses from his pocket.
He rolled them around in his fingertips……
And then he put them on casually.
At that moment, his appearance changed into that of Rein’s.
「The magic tool you gave me is also wonderful. Thanks to this thing, I was able to humiliate Rein to such an extent.」
「The Imitation Spectacles…… They are a first-class magical item that can mimic a particular person’s appearance. I took them out of the royal palace in the hope that they would be of some use to you, but I’m glad to see that they were able to put them to such a good use, Arios-sama.」
「Yes, they are certainly a useful thing, indeed. Well, the constraint of having to make contact with the target beforehand to project its image is somewhat cumbersome…… But I guess they still served me well enough.
In order to use the glasses’ ability, he had to be near the desired target for about ten minutes while wearing the glasses, a restriction that he absolutely had to meet in order for the glasses to work.
However, Arios had met that requirement by engaging in a mock battle with Rein.
Since it was a somewhat forceful method, it might have been somewhat suspicious……
But as expected, Rein wouldn’t even realize that those glasses were a magic tool.
After he was able to assume Rein’s appearance, Arios went to the ruins without wasting a single moment.
Knowing the location of the magic tools set there for surveillance beforehand……..
Right in front of them, while being disguised as Rein, he slaughtered those Adventurers.
Thus, he would have Rein set up and arrested for sure.
……..That was the plan that Arios had made this time.
Rein would not only be stripped of his Adventurer status, he would also be judged as a sinful and despicable criminal.
Normally, for a crime like that the only thing that would await him would be the death sentence.
At best, he would be sentenced to forced labor in mines and other nasty places like that.
Just imagining that miserable future awaiting him would make Arios smile.
「By the way, what do we do now?」
As he thought back, Arios asked Monica that question.
「Yes, about that…… I thought it would be a good idea to get ourselves rid of those glasses.」
「Get rid of these? But it seems like a bit of a waste to me……」
「It would serve as evidence that would lead the authorities to Arios-sama. Although it’s an excellent magic tool in and out of itself, leaving it behind could cause problems for us later on……」
「Hmm…… Yeah, I guess that’s true, too. Alright. I shall leave it up to you to get rid of them, then.」
「As you wish, Arios-sama.」
Arios handed the glasses to Monica.
Monica took the glasses and activated the curse on them in a silent voice.
In response to the sound of the words of power, the glasses crumbled and turned to dust.
She activated the self-destruct device she had planted on the glasses in advance.
「Now, there will be no problem. No one will be able to track Arios-sama because of that. Everything is going to proceed exactly as you want it, Arios-sama……」
「Thank you, Monica. I’m grateful for the company I have found in you. Once again, thank you for doing this.」
「Yes. I, too, am grateful for the fate that allowed me to meet you, Arios-sama.」
Monica bowed down to Arios deeply, as if to offer her allegiance to Arios.
That made it impossible for Arios to see her expression for a short moment.
Monica was……… smiling.
***
Arios, who was feeling so good with himself, left the tent, saying he had to deal with some plans for the nearby future.
Monica, now all alone, saw him back until she couldn’t see him anymore……
「Fufu.」
She giggled slightly in self-satisfaction.
「With this, we were able to get rid of every single one who could possibly get in our way. But that’s not all. The Hero has now crossed a line from which there is simply no coming back. With this, no matter if things go our way or not, he will no longer be a problem. Fufu…… Yes, everything is progressing smoothly…… And everything is for Risu-sama’s sake……」
