Return of the Fallen Volume 12 Chapter 81

After offering this proposal to Kazuki, Kazuki in return wondered why the grey tree folk Dredinkar didn’t offer the other two groups the same type of partnership.

Dredinkar glanced behind him before shrugging.

“I would have no problem with others joining but those two groups are…Stubborn one could say.”

As soon as he said this, the other two groups immediately reacted. Powerful auras rose up and one representative from both groups came forward.

One of the reps was a short woman, so short in fact she resembled a child more than a grown adult. She had golden hair and bright green eyes. Both of her brows were furrowed and it was clear she was already pissed from the start.

She rushed into the barrier Kazuki and Dredinkar were in and shouted at the tree folk.

“You old bastard, it seems your roots have long rotten if you think I’ll allow you to insult me like that and get away with it. What part of me exactly would you call stubborn, huh!?”

Dredinkar folded several of his arms over one another. He wore a smile but underneath the surface, he seemed to be teasing this woman.

“Maybe stubborn was a mistake on my part, more like…immature. Yes…that word seems to fit you perfectly Carta.”

The green-eyed childish-looking lady took a step forward. A pair of gauntlets appeared on her arms and hands and glowed with golden green light.

“Dredinkar you, grey bastard. How many times have I told you not to call me that? Shall this be the day you step into the embrace of death? Come…let me see you off first.”

The moment these words left her mouth, the golden green light coming from her pair of gauntlets grew ever brighter and the gravity suddenly increased by tens of billions of times. Dredinkar smiled but one could tell it was slightly forced now. He was feeling the effects somewhat.

“Damn, to think your powers have progressed once again. You are still the prodigy of the Blake clan. The only thing that’s mature about you is that quick growth. You dragons really are the jewel of the heavens. I’m slightly jealous, only slightly though.”

Dredinkar unfolded a set of arms and the bark-like skin on these arms became incredibly pale until they were transparent. When this happened, Dredinkar’s power grew to match Carta’s. The slightly strained expression from a moment ago vanished and was replaced with confidence.

Neither of them backed down. Just as it seemed like the two would come to blows, the insect type being stepped into the barrier. It had a hard-looking shell for a torso and elongated legs that bent in reverse from the knee joint. It had long spikes covering its every limb and had the head of a wasp with many eyes. Its mandibles clicked and chomped as it spoke, causing an odd sound that made one’s inner ear reverberate slightly.

“Fools. If you wish to kill each other right before the prize then hurry up and do so. No need to dance about and posture, just do it and be done so that you don’t get in the way of the great Gai colony.”

Dredinkar and Carta turned their attention to this insect creature and acted as if they were going to attack. Because of this, one of the wasp God’s many eyes lit up with multiple rainbow-like colors.

“Oh, do you two really wish to go against this mighty one? I may die but I will guarantee both of you will fall with me. To kill an ancient tree folk and a prodigy dragon born, my queen will celebrate my dying achievements and raise my branch colony by at least two ranks. So go ahead, let us fight or…stop being so stupid, and let’s discuss this properly. Either way, I will get what I want out of this situation.”

Kazuki saw the multi-colored eye from the wasp and was reminded of someone from long ago and he couldn’t help but wonder.

With these threats established, Both Dredinkar and Carta calmed down.

Carta clicked her tongue in annoyance.

“You damn insects. No care nor concern for your life so long as you can serve your queen. To think they call my family the mad ones.”

Dredinkar folded his arms once again and smiled.

“Specxzu Gai, there’s no need for threats. I don’t remember making you nor your colony my enemy. I merely got a little frustrated. You know how Carta can be. Since both of you have decided to enter my barrier, I assume this means you actually do wish to talk things out and everything else just now was just a show of force. After all, none of us wish to enter a place with those unskilled.”

Carta’s eyes began to glow once more but the wasp God clicked its mandibles once again and spoke before she could vent her frustration.

“Dredinkar, you spoke out of turn when calling us stubborn. Don’t pretend you did not know what you were doing. Carta showed her fangs because of your words. She fell for the bait and revealed her strength. You are manipulative as always and she is still only a few thousand years old. Far too young to see through your cunningness but I Specxzu Gai will not fall for such tricks.”

Carta’s eyes went wide as she realized she had been played. Even her companions in the background became angry after hearing this.

Dredinkar kept up his false smile.

“So you saw through my schemes and yet still played along. Is that wise Specxzu?”

“Yes…You may have wished to see our strength to gauge us but the eyes can be fooled. What I showed you just now, was only a portion of my power. Not even a tenth of my total.”

When Specxzu said this Dredinkar’s expression warped.

“Lies! There’s no way you hid that much strength from me.”

Specxzu shook its large head.

“I have no need to lie. As everyone knows, my colony is not great in terms of magic. We specialize in the soul and physicality. What you see with your eyes and sense with your power, does not scratch the surface. All of these things, I can hide from you but I am telling it to you upfront and outright…You understand why right?”

Dredinkar remained silent and Specxzu went ahead and said it.

“Overwhelming strength, that is what I have, and you…you cannot compete. I tell you this because, in my many eyes, you are not someone who can take me on. No matter how hard you struggle and strive, the outcome will always be the same. So, about talking things out, there’s no need. My kind will do what we must to obtain the treasure for our queen. If you or any other tries to get in our way…We will kill you and then eat the flesh from your bones.”

Kazuki didn’t understand this odd creature. It hid its strength but claimed its strength was even greater. It said not to threaten and then threatened. it spoke of discussing things and then immediately changed its mind to get in our way and we’ll eat you.

It was full of contradictions left and right. Just as Kauzki thought that Specxzu began to chuckle or attempted to chuckle as strange sounds came out of its insect mouth.

“Hehe, you all look foolish right now. I’m not really going to eat you all. Although I can beat the two of you, I would surely die in the exchange. Even if I am a part of a greater colony it does not mean I wish to die. Entering the Black gate, the mysteries and dangers surrounding the place are something I cannot fully comprehend. Going in with just my soldiers would be equally as foolish. It’s better to use you all as meat shields. At least in this way, my chance of success will increase greatly.”

Specxzu walked to the center of the barrier and a table appeared in front of him. He sat down and a few cups appeared on the table. Each one was filled with sweet-smelling gold-colored nectar.

Both Carta and Dredinkar looked at the cups with suspicion. Kazuki on the other hand could tell there was nothing wrong with any of them. He could sense cuntless energies and was aware of countless poisons and so on. Not just him but the Artifacts with him were filled with such knowledge as well and none detected anything wrong with the nectar.

He calmly picked up a cup and drank it.

It was the sweetest drink he’d ever had. Even though it was extremely sweet it was not overbearing in the slightest and mellowed with a beautiful flavor as he drank it all in. To his shock, his body actually improved by a tiny bit. He could feel his muscle fibers and organs relishing in this nectar’s power.

Only now did he realize there actually was some power inside this nectar but it was a power he did not recognize.

“Oh, so this one is actually quite brave. How is it, the taste of my queen’s nectar?”
