Return of the Fallen Volume 12 Chapter 97
Seeing this pile of Divine Crystals, it was more wealth than Dredinkar had ever witnessed before in his entire life. Besides the fact that Kazuki had dumped this many riches before him, he was also at a loss for words. Kazuki had clearly activated his storage ring to bring these crystals out. Another mystery Dredinkar could not figure out. One thing he knew for sure was that Kazuki was unfathomably deep.
At the same time, he felt bitterness in his chest. Had Kazuki brought these Divine crystals out earlier and shared them with everyone? it could be said they would not have been so desperate in the first place.
Dredinkar shook such thoughts away. He knew it was not Kazuki’s responsibility to share these things with them. They were all strangers and barely allies, temporary allies at best. He had no right to demand anything from anyone.
Dredikar swallowed hard seeing this pile of Divine crystals.
“Medatte, I won’t ask how you brought these out of your ring, that is for you to know and me to guess. One thing though. How can I accept this deal? After all, at the end of the day, you wish to trade these crystals for something that I do not own. The Artifact you have is Carta’s and Carta’s alone. With her in her current state, she can not agree to anything. This does not feel right.”
Kazuki stared at Dredinkar with a knowing look.
“True, you cannot accept anything on her behalf though seeing as how you are keeping her alive and will return her to her Clan when you escape this place, I’d say you have all authority over her life. I don’t really care whether you accept it or not though. As you can see, her Artifact is already in my hand and therefore it is mine. That is unless you want to try and claim it from me.”
Kauzki’s aura spread throughout this entire area and was suffocating for Dredinkar. He could barely resist it. He shuddered at the thought of having Kauzki as an enemy and quickly denied any interest in the bracelet.
“I would never. I have no eyes for something I never had the rights to. As far as I can see, this is yours and yours alone. I’m sure the immature brat will understand. After all, it was her fault for falling out in the first place. Hopefully, she will take this as a fine piece of education. That is the cost she will have to endure. Her life for her bracelet.”
Kazuki pulled his aura back and Dredinkar no longer tried to protest. He immediately opened three of his six hands and began absorbing the energy from this pile of Divine crystals as quickly as possible. To his great disappointment, the weird effects of this world were interfering even with energy absorption. If this were under normal circumstances, Dredinkar or really any God would be able to absorb as much Divine energy from this large pile of Divine Crystals almost instantaneously.
Thanks to this horrid world, it was taking an excruciatingly long time. Minute after minute flowed by as his core was gradually filled to the brim. After nearly seven minutes, his core had reached its threshold and he was full so to speak.
He wasn’t alone in this endeavor. Fleck, Nala, and Kazuki all absorbed energy from even more crystals Kauzki brought out.
Only now did Dredinkar notice the arrows Fleck carried and he was stunned?
“Those arrows. Aren’t they
Before he could finish his words, Fleck nodded. He grabbed an arrow from his back and tossed it over. Dredinkar snatched it out of the air and studied it as Fleck explained.
“These came directly from the ground. This stuff is some of the hardest material I’ve ever seen. Actually, it is the hardest material I’ve ever come across. It’s thanks to this toughness that I was able to harm the snake creature at all.”
Dredinkar knew he needed to leave soon but his curiosity got the better of him.
“But how did you even get this up and out of the ground in the first place? I mean the ground is so tough I can barely damage it even if I use a multitude of my soul weapons.”
Fleck pointed behind him with his thumb and Nala smiled proudly.
“Nala’s strength is something to be admired. Since it was dangerous to fight up close, she used her strength to tear up the ground with her bare hands. After that, she managed to shape them into something that resembled arrows. They were perfectly against that monster’s webs and even allowed me to help Master blind it. Nala may not be the toughest or the best with magic but her strength is second to none. It was this strength of hers that allowed Master to recognize her and pick her to enter this place with us.”
Fleck might have been saying too much from an outsider’s perspective seeing as how he was a servant but since Kazuki did not stop him, it meant it was allowed. Besides that though Kazuki allowed his slaves to speak freely so long as they did not speak improperly. Any secret they knew, the slave marks within would prevent them from speaking on them.
As Fleck spoke of her strength in a positive light. Nala couldn’t help but flex her huge muscles proudly.
Dredinkar was again amazed. Not only was Kazuki a mystery but even his servants were nothing to look down on. Fleck’s eyes and skills with a bow were something to envy and Nala’s strength seemed to be even greater than Specxzu’s. Dredinkar wondered how different things would have gone if he had Nala and fleck as his own subordinates rather than those he lost.
As soon as the thought formed, he quickly shook it away. He felt slight disgust for valuing his fallen comrades so lowly. They were there to help him fulfill his dream and died in battle under his command. They were gone forever while he had survived. Dredinkar decided to stop wasting time and get out of this place. It was not a good thing to stick around in a place with such ugly experiences.
He couldn’t help but look at the nearby tunnel the snake creature had burrowed into.
He hadn’t been worried about it before but the thought of being attacked from behind whilst trying to escape would be a danger he could not deal with. The snake may be injured but he did not know how quickly it could recover. He also knew just how much faster it was than him. Even with his energy fully restored, and the snake in an injured state, it would still be able to catch up to him and no time. Plus he had to continue to protect Carta.
“Medatte…About the snake creature. Do you think it will come after me and Carta? Is there no way to slay it before you head in some more?”
Kazuki glanced over at the tunnel before returning his attention to Dredinkar.
“Killing it is a possibility but I have no plans to do so. Time is running low. We took far too long in dealing with that snake thing that the other groups will be here before you know it. Any advantage we had, is surely gone. I need to get moving again as soon as possible, so lingering here is not an option.”
Dredinkar thought this may be the case. As far as he could see, Kazuki mainly stayed here for so long, so that Fleck and Nala could recover. If he really had to deal with the snake, it would be a hopeless encounter. Even if he decided to throw Carta away and escape by himself he would not make it far. it was clear from his expression just how desperate he was.
Kazuki smiled inwardly.
“Of course, I may be willing to change my mind if you were to give me something.”
Dredinakr was dumbfounded. The way he saw it, he held nothing of value to the mysterious Kazuki. Still, if there was a chance to escape with no worries, there was nothing he would not part with he thought.
“Name it Medatte and I will give it to you on the spot!”
Kazuki glanced at the small blank white card Dredinkar still held in his sixth hand. After the battle, Dredinkar had put all of his Divine soul weapons away. Well, every single one of them except that blank card. Kazuki had felt a strange power coming from it. A power he had only felt one other time long ago, and he became highly interested in it. Even now, Dredinkar’s grip on the white card was one of someone who would not let go even in death.
Dredinakr followed his sight and his eyes widened.
“NO! That…Anything but that! It is far too precious. It is something that cannot be replaced even if I had all the wealth in the three Higher Realms and everything below them. Only this I will not bargain for so please don’t even try.”
