Return of the Fallen Volume 13 Chapter 107

Teaching the daughter of his enemy was something only a fool would do. Runa was not evil nor had any ill will toward Kazuki, but Mefius was different. He could easily penetrate her mind and steal anything he wished from her. It would literally be Kazuki handing over his secrets.

That was a mistake Kazuki would never make.

Kazuki could never agree to this and yet at the same time, he could not simply say no to her either. This would bring down outside pressure from those above and that was the last thing he needed right now. If Runa was rejected so openly, her taking this up with her father was not an impossibility.

(I can’t just shut her down right here. Pushing it out though is not difficult…)

After Runa had asked Kauzki to teach her how to use aura like him, Kazuki had gone quiet. Runa thought this was a no and she quickly bowed before Kazuki and proceeded to beg.

“Kazuki, I know this isn’t something I should ask. We are basically strangers and have no real connection. From our first encounter, I have been nothing but hostile to you until recently…I get it but please don’t turn me away. I was blind and did not see. I was naive and childish, I get that now. I’ve always thought myself better than others simply because of the blood running through my veins but I recognize now how little I truly am. Please don’t reject me. I will do anything!”

Kazuki quickly grabbed RUna by the shoulders and pulled her up to her feet.

“I get it I get it. Just get up. How many times are you going to make a scene look so bad. If someone were to walk in right now they would completely misunderstand and my head would go rolling. Besides I never said I wouldn’t teach you did I?”

Runa’s expression flipped and she was beyond excited. She was about to jump for joy and shout when Kazuki once again covered her mouth.

“Shh Shh, seriously woman can you not alert the whole mansion!”

Runa calmed down a little. This time she didn’t push Kazuki away when he covered her mouth. Kazuki could sense some wrong thoughts coming from Runa and he quickly removed his hand from her mouth.

*hEur ehmm*

Clearing his throat, Kazuki went back to the topic at hand.

“Before I agree to anything though you must understand something.”

Runa nodded repeatedly.

“Yes tell me.”

“Are you really sure this is what you want? I mean as you said it yourself we are strangers. How can you simply trust an unknown outsider like myself? Don’t you think you are being a bit too rash? Jumping at the first new shiny thing to enter your Realm. What I am and what you can learn from me may all be superficial in the long run. What I mean to say is you may think this is the path for you not realizing I am actually just a fool. By the time you understand what’s happened, you may come to regret everything.”

Runa crossed her arms and looked as if she didn’t believe Kazuki’s words not even for a minute.

“If you were simply some shiny new toy, my father and teacher would never recognize your abilities. The fact that he disciplined Editrix so harshly when he went against you shows how much he values your skills. More than him and more than teacher, my eyes do not lie. When I saw you make those swords with your aura, I knew right away that you were different from the others. You’re someone unlike any other I’ve ever known. I have seen the folly of men firsthand. Over and over again they wreck what they do not understand and never grow. This city is the perfect example of that. We’ve ripped down and destroyed what came before and lost so much. For countless years there’s been no advancement no change and no growth. What you did earlier with those swords, all of my people could not have achieved in eons.”

“And what about trust? Is that not the most important? How do you know I won’t fuck you over?”

Runa tilted her head in confusion.

“Fuck over, what does that mean?”

(Of course, she doesn’t understand such a phrase from a different Realm.)

“Forget it, what I mean is how do you know I won’t betray you?”

“As for you being trustworthy or not…you aren’t the type.”

This time it was Kazuki who was slightly confused.

“As you said we are strangers but that is not the same for everyone here. Your friend Monsuta. You came to this Realm with no knowledge of anything or anyone. Just like a newborn babe, you were weak and could have been killed at any given moment. Yet, what do you do, you befriend one of the most vicious creatures to ever exist. The day we met, I saw you. You could have abandoned the sharp tooth. With that speed, surely you could have run away and escaped us. Instead, you stayed with your friend and tried to protect him even going so far as to risk your own life.”

Runa shook her head.

“I don’t know very many people who would do the same.”

“What about your fa…I mean what about Master or your teacher or uncles?”

Runa went quiet for a moment.

“Teacher would. Maybe one of my uncles…Father…he…he would be disappointed I got into a situation I couldn’t handle in the first place…”

Kazuki could sense a deep sadness emanating from Runa’s soul. She did her best to keep her expression the same but underneath the surface, her soul was crying out like a small child.

Kazuki grew curious and with his hidden aura, he reached into Runa’s soul world and took a look. Runa’s life was one full of misery and loneliness. She grew up under Mefius’s strict nature with Verick watching over her teaching her. She trained under harsh conditions since she could walk and has never had a single friend or any she was close to for that matter.

Because of her position as the daughter of Mefius, no one dared get close to her and they did their utmost to avoid her. Isolated before she even knew she was a person and forced to fight and train.

(It’s no wonder her personality is twisted.)

Kazuki felt no sympathy for her but he understood why she was the way she was now. In the end, she was still one of the main causes for him and Monsuta being dragged to this place.

Kazuki smiled.

“I will teach you.”

Runa’s eyes lit up.

“Really!?”

“Yes but before any of that, you would have to get your father’s permission first. After all, my status is still that of a slave. Oh, and I won’t be able to teach you until at least a week from now.”

Runa’s joy turned sour instantly.

“What! A week. Why so long? We should start right after I speak with father. Surely he’ll say yes, who cares whether you are a slave or not?”

Kazuki raised a brow.

“Have you already forgotten my task and what lies ahead? I still have to make all of those swords, I have no time to train someone. Besides that, there’s the war remember?”

Runa felt embarrassed and she folded her arms over her chest once more with an upturned nose.

“Of course I know that. I was simply testing you. If you couldn’t even manage your priorities correctly, there’s no way I’d ever let you teach me anything.”

Kazuki rubbed his chin.

“Oh really. Maybe the last few minutes didn’t just happen but I recall a young maiden bowing at my feet beggi

Runa’s tail shot up and covered Kazuki’s mouth with haste.

“Stop! Say no more…please. I get it so no more embarrassing words.”

Kazuki shrugged.

Runa turned away.

“A week! I can wait a week. I’ll get fathers permission and you will teach me the moment the last shrieker falls and Father brings peace to this Realm and not a moment later.”

Kazuki felt darkness in his heart hearing this. As he knew it would never come to fruition. He smiled once more.

“I understand. A week from now, the moment your father brings peace to this Realm. That is when I will teach you everything you wish to know.”

Runa said nothing more. She left on a high note of course first she checked to make sure no one was watching before she disappeared back to her room.

As soon as she was gone Kazuki sat back down on the dusty floor.

(She really believes in Mefius. She also now believes in me.)

Kazuki did not know what to think at the moment. Instead, he pushed all the shit in his head to the side and began to focus his hidden aura once more.

(Worrying about her is pointless. I still have much work to do.)
