ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 518: After a Puppet Show, a Music Show Right Away Part 2
Following Saina’s guidance, we have come to the edge of the stalled cliff. There what awaited us was a huge metal plate that floated upwards, shaped like a stairs. It should not cause any reaction from us since we have seen many different things in this game so far, but…… No, it’s actually quite amazing indeed! A staple of Sci-Fi, if I do say so myself here!
After a while we got off the platform of spiral stairs, and we arrived at the spacious space that looked like a landing of some sort. Then Emul and I continued forward while still guided by Sigma…… And it was then that I happened to think that now would be a good time to actually ask that one question that I really wanted to ask for a while now.
「Say, I was unable to ask about it at that time at all, but…… What exactly is that thing? That Orchestra?」
「Well, wouldn’t you already have some sort of assumptions in regards to that, at the very least?」
「That is beside the point for now.」
While most of the Conquering Dolls went to the frontline base, it would only stand to reason that some of them would remain stationed here. Advancing forward, we arrive at a gentle slope, followed by a helical hill. Also, the scenery began to change slightly.
「–––––– Asking for permission to disclose information: Transmitting the information to the Contracted Master: First Authorization…… Second Authorization…… Third Authorization…… Starting the description now. At the current moment the Conquering Dolls operate under three basic protocols: one of them is “Reconquista”, a plan devised to assist the Next Generation Human Beings should they encounter an insurmountable crisis……」

And also other science and technology lumps that do not feel like they belong in this “time period” and might have actually come from somewhere completely different.
So, does that mean that Sigma and her kind were actually making sure that humans do not obtain something that might actually upset the power balance of this current world? Seems to me like giving the primitive man only the stone tools instead of dumping high-tech gadgets onto them from the get-go.

And then finally, Sigma comes to a stop. The place we were at right now looked like some sort of a long passage that would end with a sudden dead end. And there was also a huge ass…… I don’t really think that the word “gate” is appropriate here, but that’s how this thing looked to me. It certainly looked like gates you could see the inside of Leviathan, but those were made out of metal. This gate was carved out of wood.
「…… And here we are, the place where the “Protocol: Orchestra” should be located. And this “gate” here was erected so that the two protocols: Orchestra and Conquest Dolls, could coexist and not go in one another’s way. So it’s basically a containment, or perhaps a separation method.」
「Orchestra, and then the……?」
No, thinking about it that way, it wouldn’t be that strange at all. When it comes to the Unique Monsters that I have encountered so far in this game, only the Night Prowler Lycaon does not seem to have a proper questline connected to it. Well, it also seems that Wezaemon and Goldunine cases are the ones where the story is somewhat fragmented and there are parts of it that I still don’t understand, but…… Could it be that Orchestra is going to be that type of Unique Monster that has a really elaborate backstory? Or maybe that it will be possible to actually communicate with it?
「From what I understand, the structure of this door has been altered by the Orchestra in some way. Originally they were made out of shock-resistant metal, but as you can see, now they are like that.」
「Material modification? So there is a monster in this world capable of such a thing?」
「Negative: No. This phenomenon is more natural. It is something that could be best described as “erosion”. It is also fundamentally different from the mana manipulation that ultimately led to the destruction of the Era of the Gods civilization.」
Oho? Well who would have thought? To think that there could actually be a form of connection between the Conquest Dolls and the end of the Era of the Gods like that? Of course, there are still quite a bit of things that remain a mystery, or should we say, are quite a bit “Occult” when it comes to that matter, but with each new fact discovered about that the case should become clearer and clearer.

「Whoa there, what’s wrong, Emul?」

GIGIGI! And just like that, without any one of us actually doing anything at all, the tree gate begins to move and open up all on its own.
We press on and Saina looks straight ahead alongside the old and dusty floor, and then Sigma looks right at Emul and I and……

With my consciousness slowly starting to fade away, I could feel my entire body being slowly dragged into the warm and damp darkness. Wait, wait, wait just a freaking second! I’m not over talking! I still wanted a conversation event to carry on! I don’t remember pressing the skip button or anything like that! I did not want to check anything in advance and sacrifice this conversation for that exact purpose!
「As for you, well…… I hope that you can help us with providing the answer to the question that our dear mechanical contraption is seeking?」
As such, it was at this moment that both my consciousness and special awareness started to vanish and I was unable to see or perceive anything anymore.
Alright, so now without any further ado…… Let us start this musical meeting, shall we?
