ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 664: Four Minus One Versus Three Part 1
「Well then, come! Come on, come! Het there, come! Come right at me, bro!」
When it comes to Infighting, it is all about the battle of souls. Just like in a regular fight, you are still required to have both Power and Technique if you want to score yourself a victory, but what you need in here the most is Guts! And you can be sure that I have plenty of those available!
Power is mainly needed so that you can successfully attract even more aggro towards yourself. And I need to generate as much aggro as humanly possible, so that I could protect Sigma from the “Golden Age” and let her do her thing without any interruptions. That is also why I think that using “Utsurou Mikagami” in here is not going to be all that great of an idea, mostly because the aggro generated that way would most certainly go to waste. Now, when it comes to attracting aggro towards yourself, they are generally two ways in which you can approach this problem: one of them is the method that makes sure that you, the generator, is going to be completely safe throughout the entire operation. The other one……this one assumes that in order to generate as much of that aggro as possible you have to go out there and expose yourself to danger. And there is no other way.
But that doesn’t change the fact that I need to be wary of His Majesty the Kind at all times, but as long as I know what I’m doing and not do anything stupid, I should be okay. And the fact tha the “Fool” Arcana allows me to rotate my skills way more effectively than before, I can just focus on that task alone without actually having to concern myself with anything else at the moment. After all, I cannot stress this enough, Aggro management is something is absolutely crucial in here.
Go, let’s discuss some actual techniques that you are going to use in order to survive on the field while generating aggo! Aggro equals attention, so the more you make a particular monster focused on you, the more on-you concentrated the attack is going to become. And the way in which the Golden Age was concentrating its “Holy Sword” attacks and the scissor attacks was only making that statement ring oh-so-true!
Now, the most important thing in here is to be able to use those attacks to my advantage. So it means baiting them out and striking right at the moment when the opportunity for a counterattack presents itself. And since those openings are really scarce here, the best thing that can be done to be focused at all times to make each of those openings count. And I need to be especially careful of that “Holy Sword”, since the way in which it is coming down every single time can basically one-shot kill me if I am not careful. But there is no escape, and the aggro gathering is something that absolutely needs to be done. So the first technique that I was to employ here is actually a technique that I have been using quite a lot while dealing with the smaller Crystal Scorpions all the time…… It was the rotation of the tail. And not just any simple rotation, but a fully blown three hundred sixty degrees one. It is a traditional technique that uses even beam type that the Emperor Scorpions back at the New Continent were utilizing, but it was still something that was quite possible to avoid. Especially since I had to worry about Sigma making her preparations all the while while I was going at it. That is, the distance that does not induce a large rotation is not additionally an ultra-close distance.
This brings us to Guts! You need to have guts if you are ever to do what need to be done without chickening out or backing out at last possible moment. Now, I know that having guts is important, but we are talking about fighting something that is the size of a literal dump truck and probably could ram you with the speed and strength of one as well. So you need to have some REAL guts to be able to pull this off against an opponent quite like that. And when it comes to various fantasy games, there is always a sense of freshness when a threat that you did not consider to be real suddenly becomes a reality. So in a sense, you if want to get to the highest possible levels of mastery when it comes to the Full Dive games, you need to have those guts! Otherwise you will just stay crying in the corner, unable to do anything.
「The experience of a non-human avatar! And now you can experience it all live! Ain’t the technology great!?」
Dogs, beetles, gazelles, cheetahs, soft creams…… No wait a second. What the hell is a soft cream doing in this group? And in what particular way was it useful to me? Is it perhaps possible to help the future me in the burning of tempura armor by doing some preliminary work in the past? Well, the important thing when you are fighting an especially strong monsters is to actually understand how they work, what drives them, and what they can and cannot do.
However, in my whole career as a gamer there was not even once a moment when I was to become a scorpion, so I don’t really have that much…… No, wait! I have some experience when it comes to playing both as a crawfish and a spider! So I guess that this is not exactly it, but it’s close enough, wouldn’t you say!? Everything is a reference if you look long and hard enough for it!
There is a prey where you want to be careful about what’s in front of you, and the probability that the hit from the “Holy Sword” is about to come and make contact right now is really low. But if it is so, then I need to be wary about the regular sword, but shouldn’t this be just a regular crystal when it comes to its hardness? I don’t want to be delated just because I have made a mistake, but at the same time I’m not quite ready to counterattack. But I guess that I will just have to go with the flow and play it by ear…… Yes, alright! It missed! Now what are you going to do, “Holy Sword”!? There is only one possible thing left for you to do!
「Thank you so much for this, Maxwell-san!!」
Let’s get a move on in here thanks to the continuous use of the multiple “Orbital Movements” and “Solid Maneuvers”! that way I can get off the hit route at the last possible moment, use the momentum of avoidance to put some much needed distance between us, and then draw a small circle of less than one meter in order to return to the same place from which I started to the evasive movement in the first place! Now then, good luck, Sigma! Beat that chump into a bloody…… Ah, no, wait! Wait! Wait just a god damned moment! A sudden new move!? Its positioning is unfamiliar, and there is a “Holy Sword” coming right at me in a straight line……!!
「Tsk, not going to make it!!」
