At the mention of the Mind Frey, a cold gasp was heard from a few in the room. Danny nodded.
“Yes, the Mind Frey. It is an odd thing. Is it a creature or a magical device or both? I don’t know but we all witnessed its use on Garn in the throne room. Within but a moment we were able to see every single one of his memories play out. That Mind Frey can not only uncover every single one of your darkest and deepest secrets but it can display it for all to see. If Garn uses that on Ryuta he will be able to learn how to use ancient hand signs as well. Garn can already use a few elements and he stands as one of the most powerful people on the entire continent. Imagine if he learns Ryuta’s technique and can use every element. At that point, who will be capable of stopping him.”
Danny shook his head in bitterness. Never did he think the hidden secret would be so dangerous.
“This ability of yours Ryuta, it truly puts us all at risk. To be honest, I say you should never use it again. Hide it away completely and never let it see the light of day again. If any higher power even catches a whiff of such an ability, it will not only put you in the line of sight with a target on your back but us as well. The fact that we now know about this, we are all in danger.”
Asuna felt worried. She grabbed Kazuki’s sleeve.
“So this is why you hid it from me. You were just trying to protect me, protect us.”
Kazuki nodded.
“I would have told you sooner but I remembered that first time you and Sam were hanging out in my room in the palace. You broke down and cried your eyes out and were deeply shaken. After that, I got this power in the Karada Cauldron and I knew I couldn’t tell you. How could I tell you that we were in even more danger? How could I lay that burden on either of you? Not to mention that I still wasn’t quite sure about the ability myself but the more I tried it out…the more I practiced it, I saw it’s potential. I knew if I told anyone and the kingdom found out I would be used or manipulated and that it would involve you and Sam and I couldn’t let that come about. This is also why I ended up going to find Nunully and her mother. I found out a way that might let me remove these memories from my mind but the cost was buying a few illegal items. Itsu the Information Officer got wind of it and captured me and Nunully. After I killed Itsu, the only man who defended Garn in the throne room and made my escape, Garn and I became enemies. The rest you all already know.”
Kazuki looked around the room at everyone to see if they were buying his lies. Everyone believed him and bought it hook line and sinker.
(To regain their trust I had to give up a real secret but the truth behind it is not the truth. Were they to know I actually got this ability back on earth several years ago, they’d probably believe pigs could fly first and call me a liar. I wonder if they’d shit themselves knowing magic used to exist there. In the end, I have their confidence. My secret is now their secret. Any chance at a slip up may very well cost them their own life. Therefore, they should remain tight-lipped but who knows for sure.)
Danny rubbed his chin in thought.
“Ryuta, you mentioned something about removing the memory. Is such a thing actually possible?”
(So he caught that little made up clue. Very good Danny.)
Kazuki pretended like he didn’t know and shook his head.
“I can’t be 100% sure but if there is even a small chance it’s real, I think it’s worth pursuing.”
Shin laughed.
“Hehehe, so if we get this memory of yours removed, that means you unlearn this ability. Which also means no more cheating. The playing field will be equal between us at that point, hehehe, now that I’m up for.”
Asuna got a little angry.
“How would that be fair. If he loses that ability but you still have that snake belt thingy, won’t you be at an advantage?”
Shin’s brows scrunched.
“It’s called the Viper Whip and you know it. If Ryuta has that ability or not it doesn’t matter, I’ll still be better then him.”
Asuna couldn’t help but roll her eyes.
“Can you two stop for a moment and be serious. If there really is an opportunity to bury this ability of Ryuta’s and squash future dangers that could spring from this. I’d much like to find a way as soon as possible to fix this but I can’t do that if you two are constantly arguing. Sometimes I wonder if it isn’t you two that have a crush on one another.”
Danny’s comment sparked a rage between the two and yelling and curses were thrown around. Eventually, the two were gonna be kicked out if they continued on but this mild threat seemed to simmer then down a bit. Shin glared viciously at Asuna while Asuna stared almost pleadingly at Kazuki. As though her eyes said that there was no way in hell she had a crush on Shin.
Danny removed his fingers from his ears and cleared his throat.
*Ahem*
“Now that the children have finished, Ryuta, about the illegal items you need to remove said memories, can you inform us of what is needed?”
Kazuki then quickly went over everything he needed to remove the memory. Really though it was just the list to re-forge his Mage Core and hide his Compass’s Aura. When asked where they could potentially acquire these items, Kazuki confessed to having nearly all of them gathered already.
With a wave of his hand, the 13 Nexar crystals along with the Stazar Void rock and 2 tier 1 Magic Beast cores fell out gently onto the bed. He made sure not to reveal the Beast core he had dug out of Tsura’s husband’s corpse. He had just regained everyone’s full trust. There was no way he would risk losing theirs over a single Beast core. Instead, he pulled out the other Magic Beast cores he had collected from Chief Atoh and the other fallen Mangshi.
As soon as these items landed on the bed, the surrounding became both nervous and excited. Nervous because they knew to gather some if not all of these things must have been difficult. In fact though if you didn’t count the Beast cores collected from the Mangshi, getting the other ingredients from Tilly was actually very enjoyable and only entailed a small fortune and drinking and telling stories.
Kazuki wouldn’t say that though. Rather he would let them believe that gathering these items was difficult. Seeing the Mangshi’s Beast cores lying next to the other items. They would relate the difficulty and dangers of getting those with the other items. If it took a life and death battle to get those then what did it take to get the others. That is what he wanted them to think about.
Besides an unease and nervousness seeing these items, an excitement filled them as well. With so many of the ingredients already in Kazuki’s possession did this not mean that they were already almost out of danger for this.
As everyone stared at these items with a bit of hope, Asuna found her sight glued to a particular item. Her eyes were locked on The Stazar Void rock. For some reason, she got a familiar feeling from it. Out of curiosity, she went to reach for it but before she grabbed it, Kazuki quickly slapped her hand away and scooped it up.
Asuna was shocked and confused. The others as well didn’t know what to think until Kazuki said.
“Sorry about that but Asuna only you can not touch this rock.”
This statement only confused her and the others even more.
“I’m not saying this to be mean or something petty like that but this rock has special properties. Like this storage ring on my finger, this Stazar Void rock has space elemental properties and you yourself use the main element of space. This Void rock’s space properties are amplified much in the way the Magnitium back in the forest was.”
As soon as Kazuki said it was similar to Magnitium, both Tsura and Mei visibly flinched and scooted back several feet until they almost fell off the bed. Kazuki shook his head at the two squeamish birds.
“I Didn’t say it was Magnitium only similar in the way it’s amplified. When Sam touched a single piece of Magnitium, it’s special properties were activated by him subconsciously. The result was nearly disastrous and almost killed Kimi. With just a piece, he changed the nearby gravity unknowingly. For you Asuna, I can’t say for sure anything will happen but why risk it. Were you to touch this rock and suddenly teleport us in a volcano, while I doubt that can really happen, well I’d much rather be safe than sorry.”
Danny nodded along with this conclusion.
“Ryuta’s right you know. Not only that what if you somehow damage it accidentally. I don’t know how or when you got this Stazar Void rock but I’m sure it ain’t cheap. Even if you got thousands of gold Zeni from Nunully’s mother Lamia, It’s not a good look to throw money away just because you can.”
As soon as those words left Danny’s mouth, there was a knock at the door.
*Buh buh buh buh*
Answering the door, little Seta stepped inside the cramped room followed by an unfamiliar woman. At first, Kazuki didn’t recognize her but after Seta’s introduction, it clicked.
The woman walked over to Kazuki with a floating parchment and pen hovering next to her.
“Sir, I am from the Armored Bear. I was one of the people behind the counter. You bought several goods from us and I have come to deliver said items. After confirming everything is here, I’ll need your signature and then I’ll be on my way.”
The woman looked at the small room and shook her head.
“Sir I’d like to present you the goods you ordered but I’m afraid this room is a bit…crowded. Is there someplace with more space?”
