CHAPTER 133: SURPRISE

The day finally arrived, a day that I have waited for almost a year. And now that it had finally arrived I realized it made absolutely no difference. Today I looked at my status and there it was a proof of it. It was a small change, but a change nonetheless.

It is my birthday today. I am officially eighteen years old. Lately I have been so busy and preoccupied with teaching, training and dungeon building that I completely forgot about it. I didn’t think much about it since I didn’t plan on celebrating it in the first place, but to enjoy myself I gave everyone a day off saying it was necessary to relax from time to time.

They scattered almost immediately. I taught them almost everything that I could and they all absorbed it like a sponge. Also with coordination developing among them I had them practice inside the caverns against monsters that were caught by Byakko and Yoru. I was worried that we wouldn’t be able to capture any strong monster, but as time went by many of them came looking for me and I just led the inside the caverns and into one of the many traps to keep the monsters.

The strongest among the monsters that came looking for me was definitely the dragon that roared every night, but mostly the rest were about the same strength as a Goblin King with several being a bit stronger. Those were the ones sent into the caverns. In case that something stronger comes by I make sure to get rid of it and hide the corpse in my inventory.

“Nao-chan, I’m here!”

I was lazing around the house doing absolutely nothing when the front door of the inn was opened with a loud slam. On the doorway Hii-kun was standing with Inoue-san and several other heroes including Nakamura-kun and Ishikawa-kun.

“What the hell are you doing here?”

Hii-kun barged in just like he would always do back on Earth. Well technically this was an inn so he had every right to enter, but either way I was not expecting any guests, so his sudden appearance caught me off guard.

“I came to fetch you. I bet you were planning on spending your birthday locked away in here, well no can do. You are one of us today. We’re going out to have some fun. Get ready, oh and happy birthday.”

“What are you talking about; I am already having tons of fun. You’re messing up my plans for today. Also how come everyone is here?”

I can understand Hii-kun and Inoue-san, but most of them I didn’t even know well. Also, weren’t Nakamura and Ishikawa-kun supposed to be with the Crown Prince? Something smells fishy about this.

“It is a hunting party, all the Heroes are close-by. We’re heading for a dungeon. Did you know they are like super amazing training grounds. When I heard about them from the king, I wanted to go immediately. Luckily, it overlapped with some special tasks so we are all going there.”

So the King made his move against this dungeon. But I don’t want to go there, to be more accurate, I cannot go there. I am bound to this place. Also I don’t think I have the patience to move so slowly with a group.

“No, I don’t want to. It is too troublesome and I am busy. I can’t go now. I am sorry, but I will have to decline your offer. You are all free to stay here for free, but sadly I can’t join you.”

“I am not actually taking you to the dungeon. There are some monsters nearby and I wanted you to join in. I thought since you are so busy teaching everyday you might want to vent a little. I already told the guild you are coming with us.”

“Maeda-san, happy birthday. Hiiro didn’t say it, these monsters are something like a test from the gods. If we complete all of the tests we can gain an audience with them and also we get stronger with every test that we complete successfully. I am sure you have gotten a similar test from whoever sent you here.”

I stared blank at Inoue-san. Tests? From the guardians, I don’t remember Thanatos-sama giving me any sort of a test. I bet he is too lazy to come up with one. However since this is a special test for the heroes the monster must be really strong. This actually sounds interesting. I was growing tired of fighting Goblin generals and kings.

“Okay, you persuaded me, so what are those monsters? It must be something terrible that you need all twelve heroes to assemble.”

“My quest is to get rid of Giant Twin-Headed Ogre. It will be summoned tomorrow morning inside an ogre village. We are going there right now. Hiiro needs to exterminate the Ice Troll colony. That is why we are going to Icefire Mountains.”

I looked behind at Ishikawa and Nakamura-kun. With Vitou’s assistance and training I am sure they would have absolutely no problem finishing their own tests even without other heroes, so there must be a reason why all twelve were travelling together.

“Okay, let’s go. I will make sure to level up at least three times before I come back
tomorrow.”

Since all my things were already in the inventory space I didn’t need much time to get ready. As I was leaving I came across Zyra who was carrying a bag of herbs. She began studying alchemy per my suggestion and seemed to have liked it very much. I wanted her to be able to make her own potions on top of her healing ability, but I never imagined that she would be so into it to study even in her free time.

“Naoko-sensei, you have guests? Are you going somewhere? Is that why we have a day off?”

“Zyra-san, you are in charge today. I will be back by tomorrow. Good luck with your studies.”

Although nobody said anything, I was awarded with several odd looks upon hearing Zyra calling me sensei. Well I cannot blame them. I looked about the same age as her.

“I will use the inn for a party.”

“As long as you clean up afterwards you can hold a fashion show for all I am concerned. Just make sure the inn is still standing when I come back.”

I bid her farewell and left in the company of heroes. As Inoue-san kept looking at me warily standing next to Hii-chan, I moved and went to chat with Nakamura-kun and Ishikawa-kun whom I was most familiar with after Hii-chan. It was estimated to take about three hours in a carriage to arrive at the place where the rest of the heroes are scouting this ogre village. This was still too long for me, at the very least the way back will be short.
