CHAPTER 168: DOING BUSINESS
The morning had passed and we all decided to make a stop and have some lunch. I just wanted to grab some food from a stall, but everyone protested saying they wanted to sit down properly and eat. Seeing their exhausted expressions I complied. We only visited three markets and they are already looking like they have been working for days without pausing.
“Maeda-san, why are you buying so much food? It is not like you are still feeding two dozen people every single day. I do not believe that all of that food is merely for you.”
“Nakamura, don’t question my cooking and eating habits. Now eat, I still have to visit the blacksmith, the guild and a few more places. I will never be done if you don’t hurry up. So eat up that I can continue what I need to do. Unless, you want to let me go on ahead, while all of you wait for me at the castle.”
I saw their faces darken as I said that. Well what can I say? They were the ones that wanted to accompany me in the first place. I never asked them to do anything. Despite me hurrying them up, I felt as if their eating speed actually got slower. Finally when everyone put down their utensils I was able to make them move and headed towards the adventurers’ guild.
“Honorable Boss, welcome!”
Just as I have expected the moment I entered the guild I was spotted by members of my clan that rushed over and greeted me with such enthusiasm that it caused everyone in the building to focus on us.
“Thanks guys, but next time tone it down a bit. Is the old man at the guild?”
They pointed towards the monster selling area and a line of adventurers standing stiffly looking like they are about to face the gallows. I moved towards the line and familiar killing intent hit me. This time I didn’t bother responding with my own and just waited in line, as did the rest of my company. This caused quite a commotion among those that were able to recognize us. An S-ranked adventurer, the Crown Prince, two Heroes and a girl that just received quite the greeting, we really were bound to attract attention.
“Naoko-chan, did you really have to come here? Everyone is staring at us.”
“Mia-san, if there is anyone you want to meet you can go ahead. With that bastard here I would not be able to escape. This will take a while so relax and just meet me once we’re all done.”
She happily moved away and headed for the second floor. The line moved very slowly. I thought about skipping it several times, but seeing the amount of people that were staring I decided not to make more commotion and just patiently waited. Also if this is able to bother Vitou I would be happy.
“Little girl, it is always good to see you. How can I help you? Are you here to sell monsters again?”
“Not this time old man. I want to propose a deal with you. I would like you to sell me about 10% of all monster cores that you come across. The buyer will be Dragon’s Descent.”
Several heads turned to listen in on this conversation. The old man at the reception didn’t change his expression at all while hearing this proposition.
“Isn’t this something that you should be discussing with the guild master? That is quite a lot of money to handle.”
“Adventurers can buy any materials from the guild as long as it is in stock and that means monster cores. Also, I am pretty sure you have all the authority to make this deal happen, am I right old man?”
“Your eyes are better than most people. Well as long as it checks out everything will be fine. Since you are buying in bulk, I will give you a 15% discount to the original price.”
“I am perfectly happy with that. Shall we go and sign a contract? Is delivering it once a week good enough?”
I knew better than to bargain for a higher discount. This old man always ensures that everyone gets treated equally. If he said 15% it means that is the best he could do.
“Give me a minute… here are the papers, please sign here, here and here. Also, put a stamp here. Perfect. “
I chatted some more with him and then left the building. Next stop was the blacksmith. I had him try and figure out something some time ago and it should be more or less completely over now. In order to make him willing to do this long term, the deal with the guild was necessary.
The blacksmith that I was about to visit was an odd fellow that didn’t like working on boring stuff, much less doing it without him having some sort of benefit aside from money. His workshop was hidden in an alleyway and when I first tried to find it, I got lost several times before I was able to reach it.
“Go away I don’t deal with people!”
“Fagar, you should really work on your people skills.”
“Oh, it’s you. Heh, you’re in quite the company there lil’ monster, but no matter how much you beg me I will not do a single thing for any of them.”
I got the same treatment the first time I entered here. Thankfully since I was feeling quite annoyed that day I decided to enter an argument with him. Because of that he decided that he liked me and that if I have any interesting things for him, he would be willing to help me out. Right now, we were considered almost friends, we did fight a few more times when I came over, but now there was no need for that.
“Were you able to do it?”
“Do you doubt me? But you won’t like the price. It takes ten cores to create a pure crystal. If you don’t mind some residual elemental influence anywhere from three to six will be enough.”
The project that I had him working on is transforming monster cores into mana crystals. Right now the kingdom had monopoly over the mana crystals which they used to turn them into communication devices and recording crystals. The only way to obtain those mana crystals is if you get lucky and find them inside the dungeon. The kingdom actually controls a mine, but it has been severely depleted over the years so they are becoming rarer with each passing year.
“What about the time?”
“Now that I know the process I can do it in less than ten minutes. Also I never would have thought creating a magic circle would be able to speed up the process. That way of using magic is so old it took me a month of searching the books in the library to find a suitable one.”
“Perfect, since you are able to do, how about we make a deal. I will provide you with the cores and you give me the crystals. Ten per day and you can use a dozen of them per week for your own creations. Just imagine what you would be able to do if you embed them into armors and weapons.”
I wanted to have as much mana crystals as I could get, because they are necessary for the next phase of my clan’s development. And currently, Fagar is the only one that knows how to do this.
“Hmm… hmm… I want twenty at the very least. Also, I want you to temper with an anvil I got recently. Ever since you did something to my hammer, it became too strong and my old anvil got damaged.”
“In that case you will have to bring out a hundred per week. Also at least one fifth of those have to be pure crystals, others can have some elemental residue, but only a single one.”
Fagar seemed to be thinking about it and after a short while he nodded. We shook hands and sealed the deal. As promised I enchanted his anvil to be extra durable and paid for all the mana crystals that he produced so far. With this I was done with shopping for today.
I turned to face the people in my company and found out that all of them were frozen shocked for some reason.
“Everyone, please return to the castle, I will be in my mansion dealing with some clan stuff. I will bring Mia-san with me so you don’t have to worry about me not returning to the castle.”
“No way… I am staying. I am definitely going to follow you and wait until you are heading back. It is my duty.”
