CHAPTER 169: PREPARING FOR A RAID
I was back at the HQ at the main office, while Mia-san, Vitou and the heroes were in a guest room drinking tea. Being away from their prying eyes really felt great.
“Dogusu, what is our stock of monster cores? We will need to empty it soon. I was able to acquire the approval of Fagar. Thank you for telling me about him. If we didn’t get him to help, I don’t think we would be able to get results so fast.”
“We have about three thousand cores. We couldn’t save up many more since we needed to establish a direct connection with Commerce guild and selling monster materials along with cores was the easiest way. But I still can’t believe that you were able to make him go aboard with your plan. Do you know that he even refused to make a weapon for the king? You really are something Honorable Boss.”
So that is why everyone was frozen in shock earlier. If he refused the king, then I assume that he is quite infamous among people. Well as long as he does the work I don’t care how others think of him, or what he does with anyone else.
“Here, take this contract and store it. From now on all the monster cores that come to us, make sure you sort them by element. Sell all the cores that are not of a single element. Also, I want you to gather all the dark magicians that we have in the guild. Tell them I will be giving them a special lesson about the other side of Curse magic. If they are free I will want them to open up shops near the west and east entrance of the city.”
“Yes, Honorable Boss.”
I talked to the guys that were in charge of taking care of the wyverns. I was happy to see how enthusiastic they were about their jobs. It meant that the wyverns would not be mistreated and that is what I wanted. I am sure all of them would become strong fighters soon enough and the name of Air Force One will be feared throughout the continent as the strongest flying unit.
There was one other thing that I wanted to deal with before I leave. Yesterday I sent a message to Dogusu to check upon every single group that was registered from the tournament until now and to figure out if any of them have anything to do with the bandits attacking travelling groups outside the city walls.
“Speak to me, were you able to find anything?”
“Honorable Boss, your predictions were spot on. If what you suspect is true and they are somehow related to the arena where the tournament was held, then they should be a group called Silver Bow. I had some guys trail their members when they were near the arena and sure enough, a base was uncovered underneath it. We are still trying to catch them going outside the city to attack others, but in the next few days everything will come into place. We are already aware of who the members were and who their leader is.”
They really work fast. I wonder if Thanatos-sama also gave them some powers to be efficient when he made them follow me. They were able to learn so much in a day when the knights couldn’t do so in months.
“Take them out silently and secretly, their base is probably part of an underground sewage system or something else. Take over it as well. We will need that place to create a lab. I plan on making out clan the strongest one around. I will not let others dictate and boss me around. I will most likely not be able to join in on the fun, but make sure they know the name Calamity of Crown Colosseum.”
“Understood, Honorable Boss.”
“Turn them in anonymously. Just make sure you strip them clean of their possessions first. Their bounty is not that high that we need it for the clan. Just leave a note to donate that money somewhere, you make a choice where.”
I felt like I did everything that I needed to do at the HQ, so I tried to sneak away and leave the rest without them noticing, but as soon as I approached to front door, Mia-san walked into the hallway making sure I would not be able to leave. She really is good at this and sadly I was forced to return to the castle obediently.
“Nao-chan, are you planning on going anywhere tomorrow? If you are, allow me to accompany you once again.”
AS if I would tell you, out of all people, what I was planning on doing. I simply headed towards my room to sleep. I felt like I did a lot today and was even a bit worn out. If the guys at the guild are able to confirm Silver Bow being Fighters of Crown Colosseum they would most likely move immediately. I couldn’t see what they were doing, but I could follow them through the map function.
For hours nothing happened, then in the wee morning hours I saw dozens of presences move away from my mansion and head towards the arena. So it was true. I really wanted to join in and fight, but under the watchful eye of Mia-san and other guards I would not be able to leave. Sadly the map didn’t have a function where I would be able to watch the live feed.
Roughly half an hour later the people who participated in the battle slowly went back to their homes and only a handful of them remained to guard the prisoners that were all bunched up together. I knew that I could count on those guys, with this; the secret underground base has been acquired. Next thing to do is designing testing grounds.
I was able to fall asleep with a smile on my face. It looks like things were finally going my way. Today was just the beginning. I will end up escaping this marriage and regaining my freedom.
…
“Nao-chan, I have just received some news that the bandits terrorizing the outskirts of Kapitalia were captured. Also the ones that captured them all wore masks and refused the bounty, all because they wanted to remain anonymous. Do you know anything about it?”
I did assume that Vitou would be notified about the capture of bandits, but what is he doing trying to accuse me of doing it.
“I’m under house arrest, I have no idea what you are implying.”
I was whistling as I made my way towards the kitchens. I needed to cook all the food that I bought yesterday and the royal kitchens ought to have more utensils and equipment so making larger variety of dishes shouldn’t be a problem. Hopefully I will be able to get to know the chef better, that way coming by and asking for snacks would be easier.
I entered the kitchens and for a moment I couldn’t move. This place was enormous, even larger than the guild room in Orzak. This is definitely what I need right now. I can see myself spending days in here just cooking and stockpiling things inside my inventory. Now, time to cook some food.
***ERIK’S POV***
“Erik, why don’t you let me enter the kitchen? Even little Naoko praised my cooking. Please let me practice it some more.”
“My dearest, I would hate to see you work unnecessarily. Just enjoy doing nothing, it is much, much better.”
I definitely can’t let her go to the kitchen now that Naoko is there. Who knows what will happen once those two start talking. I’m not willing to risk it.
