CHAPTER 172: SHE’S NOTHING BUT TROUBLE

***VITOU’S POV***

I can’t believe that girl. She simply does not know how to listen. Why won’t she just stay put and behave for once. She’s acting like a child, well at least she is talking to me somewhat these days even though it is mostly to put me down, but still, it is an improvement.

“Boss, you really have it though. Let me guess, Maeda-san again?”

I must have looked quite annoyed since Ishikawa made a comment about it. Well, it is not a hard thing to guess considering everything she had done in the past week.

“It’s hopeless, she’s even making fun of me for bothering to talk to her.”

“On that case why don’t you assign more people to keep an eye on her? More people like Mia-san. Maeda-san wouldn’t be able to go against so many of them when trying to escape. Even if there is a fight I think she wouldn’t be able to go against many people while also paying attention to not harming them.”

I did think about that, but I concluded that she would try even harder at escaping. She would see it as more of a challenge. And that would turn bad.

“Wouldn’t change much, trust me on that. She is not fighting Mia-san, only escaping. For what it’s worth, she actually likes her bodyguards and allows her to drag her back every single time. Did you really think that if she didn’t want to, Mia-san would be able to take her back?”

I also heard that she announces every time she is about to escape. If Naoko really meant to run away from Mia-san and the rest of us, I don’t think we would be able to find her for days. I think only with the help of the Archduke would we be able to bring her back. I decided to stop worrying about her and continue going through the reports and papers that I had to sign.

It hadn’t been twenty minutes when a guard accompanied by a library clerk literally burst into my office. I was seriously planning on throwing both of them outside for disregarding the protocol and being rude, but before I could say a single word the librarian basically yelled out.

“Your Highness, pardon my rudeness, but Naoko-sama has disappeared.”

“WHAT?!”

I couldn’t contain myself and yelled out. This is unbelievable. I just told her not to do this and it hasn’t been an hour, yet she is once again out of the castle. How can she be like this? In fact, why was the librarian the one giving the report in the first place.

“Your Highness, please forgive me.”

“Tell me, what happened exactly. Where is Mia-san?”

“Yes Your Highness; Naoko-sama arrived at the library with Mia-sama. I followed them until they settled in the aisle with romance novels. I left them for a few minutes, but decided to go back and offer them some tea. However at that moment Naoko-sama pushed Mia-san into a hole I had never seen before and jumped in after her. When I reached that place, the hole was disappearing and it seemed like it was never there in the first place.”

I cannot believe this, just what is she planning on doing now? Why bring Mia-san along with you when you are running away? I don’t get it at all. There is nothing below the library. None of this makes any sense to me.

“Ishikawa, Nakamura, go find her. I don’t care how, just make sure you bring her back to the castle by tomorrow. I will deal with whatever monster comes out from now on. I cannot have her miss the party. Are you clear?”

“Yessir!”

I dropped all my work and went to see my father. He should know the layout of the castle much better than anyone else. And he would know if she can come across anything she shouldn’t be aware of.

“Vitou dear, what brings you here looking so upset? Did Naoko do something again.”

“Father, is there anything below the library? Nao-chan seems to be up to something again. She did try going into the prison area. If she saw all those kept there and tortured she would have definitely flipped out on us.”

The worst criminals do not get an easy way out. If she saw the state of those peopče, I’m sure she would have hated us even more than she does now.

“Yeah… umm. Sure, that would be bad. But there is only dirt and rock under the library. It would be problematic if she were digging under the ballroom. I’m sure she will come up soon enough and that this is just another fit that she is throwing.”

I sighed in relief. Naoko was being a problem, but she was not the only one. Just like she said, an influx of monsters appeared in the central area, but the most alarming thing was the number of rare and high ranking monsters. They showed up at least once per day, sometimes even more. It made me wonder if being rare is merely a rumor.

I wanted to check if things were like this in Orzak, but Toriwa said while there were some more frequent sightings, it was not as much as it was happening in the central area. And just like Nao-chan said, Dragon’s Descent wasn’t moving a muscle to deal with those monsters.

“Your Highness, a Giant Orc is headed for Kapitalia, we are seeking assistance.”

Oh brother, what a nuisance. I followed the soldier to deal with this new monster. Tomorrow, I will definitely demand from Naoko-chan to explain what is going on and why all this is happening.

That is if she even appears tomorrow. What a bother. All this is nothing but trouble.

The Giant Orc arrived at the wrong time. If he didn’t come now, he would have probably met a less miserable death. Right now I was annoyed and decided to take out my frustrations on him. Those that fought together, cheered me on and it raised the morale of the soldiers. It was under the barrage of spells and sword slashes that he finally died.

I must definitely demand an explanation from her.
