CHAPTER 20 – HERO’S WORRIES

***HIIRO’S POV***

I am bored! Yesterday I took down a pack of Direwolves. They are all ranked as D-ranked monsters but the pack subjugation is a C-rank request. However they could not take the onslaught of my sword. When the party returned the town mayor decided to throw a feast as a thank you for the subjugation. Nakamura excused himself saying he was tired, but the rest of us celebrated until late at night.

Lately through my travels I had a feeling that my Naoko might just be alive, but I could never conclude it. Through meeting different people coming from East Earldom I heard about a weird girl that came there recently.

She had black hair and eyes, unusual for these places and her most distinguishing
feature was a scar over her face. When I heard that, I was dead set on running towards Orzak town because that is something that Naoko got just as she started junior high, however the next rumors I heard stopped me. She was also able to drink enormous amounts of liquor to a point where she even earned the title for the strongest drinker in the Adventurer’s Guild. Moreover, she sometimes is seen talking to empty air and at other times she is running away like being chased by devils themselves.

The latest rumors keep convincing me otherwise. They come from a pair of adventurers that were just passing through called Odi and Volt. According to them Naoko that they know is a complete battle maniac and a formidable swordsman. The Naoko that I knew couldn’t possibly be like that. She was a game maniac that barely got out of being called a shut-in. But the only games I ever saw her playing were those boring simulation games.

“Hii-kun what is bothering you? You should be happy, it is a party.”

“Mai-chan, I want to go to Orzak town next. I simply can’t stand not knowing if Naoko
Queen is the Maeda Naoko that I knew back on earth.”

“If your Naoko turns out to be alive, what will you do with me?”

Is that what she is worried about? I honestly didn’t want to bother with woman’s jealousy. Even if I say that Naoko is nothing more than a friend she would disregard those words.

“Of course I would stay by Mai’s side. You heard about her already, I don’t think she
would even go with us. She seems to have already found her own place in this world.”

“So it is just to confirm that she is alive? You won’t bring her with us?”

“If that is what you want then I won’t.”

“Then it is decided. Tomorrow we will head out for Orzak. Also since there is a rumor
about a goblin king around there maybe we can finally get to fight something stronger as well.”

She hugged me and I kissed her. I thought about her silly jealousy and found it a bit cute. I could never imagine myself dating Nao-chan, I could only see her as a friend, unlike Mai-chan that was currently in my embrace. Motioning to her to keep quiet, the two of us snuck out of the party to enjoy some alone time.

***NAKAMURA’S POV***

I was lying in a room they assigned me. Today we took out some monsters and everyone was celebrating. It was no big deal. I was more worried about myself. The Great Magic Genius, that is what everyone had called me since coming to this world. Honestly, I couldn’t care less. They claimed I had the five strongest possible magics and with that I could use almost any spell known to mankind.

I let them call me like that because I didn’t have the heart to tell them their magic is far too weak. The most recent discovery was that light magic can also be used for attacking and the most basic magic as well; Light arrow.

Since magic is relied upon the imagination of the caster I can understand it being weaker without proper scientific background but to consider fire spear to be among the highest tiers of magic was somewhat of a sad fact.

The only taboo magic that was considered too malicious and too strong was Necromancy, a combination of Dark and Spirit Magic, two rarest and most useless magic according to natives. But I didn’t want to take that information at face value. I was glad once I learned that I would be in the same party as Inoue because she was the only one that had Dark Magic among us, but much to my dismay she refused to practice it saying it was absolutely useless and weak.

On our travels I was able to meet Colt-san, a genius native that discovered Light attack
magic. Since he had been studying magic for much longer than me, I asked him about dark and spirit magic and if he knew anyone that could use them. It was then that I learned about Naoko who had those two magic and was also able to use oddly strong curses.

I became interested in this person. Moreover, when I asked more he told me that she had unbelievable train of thought when casting magic. And what is different is that she didn’t call it curse magic but rather a weird name; debuffs. This tipped me off that this person might just be from Earth like the rest of us heroes.

Later on every time I heard rumors about her I would pay extra attention. Talking to thin air and running from nothing; if you could see spirits, then it would no longer be thin air and nothing. And as for her ability to use a sword, wouldn’t it be logical if you don’t have attack magic to protect yourself?

I decided, tomorrow I will propose that we head out to Orzak town. We are already close enough and we could reach it by the end of the day. I will go and see just who is she and what exactly is she hiding.
