CHAPTER 246: FAMILY GATHERING
***VITOU’S POV***
I couldn’t stop staring. The scene in front of me was so beautiful and while I felt like I should be angry or sad that this man was holding my Naoko, in the end I only felt relief. Seeing her chest slowly rising and falling I could be sure she is alive. Right now, I can be at ease that she is safe and sound, and that was the only thing that mattered to me.
“You stinky brat! Is this how you take care of my Nao-chan? Are you out of your mind? How can you let her deal with Tears of Hatred?!”
“Shut up, old man! This is all your fault, why did you leave them in the first place? I thought you destroyed all of them.”
Something wasn’t right here. Why is that Archduke, that never shows any emotions at all raging at this person that saved Naoko. And how do the two of them know each other?
“Stinky brat, why did I give you all those things? It was precisely to find any leftover traces. Hmph, look at what happened now. If I was any second later my cute, sweet, adorable Nao-chan would be gone.”
“Old man, you were the first one to say that there were no more of those relics. If I wasn’t here today, you wouldn’t even know what happened.”
There is definitely something I am missing here. No matter how I look at it, those two are way too aggressive with each other. It almost feels like…
“Even if you didn’t tell Daphy, I was going to come here. As if I would let anything happen to her. She is my only daughter, and you as her elder brother should dote on her more.”
“Old fart, when did you acknowledge me as your son? At most, all of us cause you trouble so you dumped us here, and now you want us to clean up your mess. If it wasn’t for you and your mess, Naoko wouldn’t hate me.”
This… this… what kind of outcome is this? More importantly, this man doesn’t look that much older than Naoko or the Archduke, so how come he is their father? Moreover, aside from the black hair, there is absolutely no resemblance between the two men.
I had no idea what was going on, nor why the two of them began arguing in the first place. I looked at the man carefully, while thinking about what I learned from their argument. I had a faint feeling I saw him before, but I couldn’t remember where. Well, since this man arrived here, I should at the very least greet him. I mean he will become my father-in-law soon enough.
“Excuse me, I am…”
“”SHUT UP!””
I stepped forward to introduce myself, but as soon as those two shouted at me, I had to step back. The sheer pressure they gave off was too much for me to handle.
“You should blame your eldest brother for being too greedy. I tried to deal with him several times, but it is not easy for me to act. His stupid hobby is destabilizing the world and that is why I can’t ever truly be idle. At least I have two of you willing to help me.”
“Why did you teach him about it in the first place? My life would have been much easier if you weren’t so reckless and lazy.”
“Look here, you stinky brat, I taught him because he was supposed to reach the high plane and assist me, but that ungrateful bastard denounced me and even escaped the grasp of my influence.”
“Once this is over, you better keep to your end of the deal. Oh, and you better explain everything to her in detail. If she keeps on hating me even after all this is done, I will make sure you don’t see a day of rest, you hear me. As for the second and third brother…”
“Those two have long cut ties with me, but just like the eldest, they knew how to escape. Because I intervened, they all bear the title of my children, but from the moment they denounced me, only the two of you remain as my children in the family books. Remember, the moment you denounce me, you lose the protection I gave you. Think about it, why do those three depend on the dead to survive?”
It felt to me like I was in on some important secret, but without knowing the main point, all of it is for naught. As those two were arguing, I realized that none of the words they spoke should be repeated outside. However, none of them were bothering to hide it from the rest of us in the room at this moment.
“I know. Unlike them, I know better than to think I am above you. Because of that, I can roam freely. I promise you, within the next year, you will be free to idle around all you want.”
The man smiled, still holding Naoko in his arms. Looking at her, I could see that the wounds were slowly disappearing from her and she no longer looked so pale and sickly. Thank god she’s fine.
“You’re welcome, brat. Seeing that you are actually worried about her, I will let you off the hook for now. But let me tell you something. Nobody, and I mean nobody is worthy to marry my adorable Nao-chan, you hear me.”
“Yes sir! Loud and clear.”
I replied immediately. I have no idea how I was able to catch his attention all of a sudden, but thankfully he didn’t scorn me. Why did he say nobody is worthy of marrying her? What will happen to the two of us? This was already arranged by the Archduke, but looking at it now, the father seems to disapprove. Before I could ask about it, Naoko opened her eyes.
“Eh! EEH! Thanatos-sama? Am I dead? Why am I with you?”
Her scream pierced through my ears making me forget everything I wanted to ask.
