CHAPTER 68 – FLYING SWORD ART: BLACK BIND

I took out my two swords. So far I have only ever used a single sword, so it was no wonder Ishikawa-kun showed surprise at my dual weapons. Also, if he plans on using White Slash stopping it with two swords is easier than a single one.

“Match start!”

He charged in, just as I expected with swords crossed at his sides. Now that I look at it, this really seems strange. No wonder everyone is dumbfounded whenever I used it. Stopping the charge on the first strike is easier, but that would be boring. I parried the blow and as he jumped up, I retreated immediately which in turn made him have his back to me.

With the previous situation most people would have moved forward to get out of range of the second strike if they knew it was coming, but that would leave you open to another charge.

The correct way to avoid it is to move back. As soon as he was to step on the ground I made my counterattack. Whenever I found
myself in such situation in-game I would follow up with another skill from Flying Sword Art called Hidden Step. Basically, it would create a foothold in mid-air and allow me to make a jump. This is a skill I was not able to recreate in this world quite yet.

“Naive!”

Before landing he jumped up and did a backflip while small ice particles landed on me. He created another ice platform and used it to push himself even further away from me. I must say this is a smart idea, but it is only an improvisation and not the real thing. Those that know about it can shatter the platform before he can use it and disrupt his skill. From now on he will not be able to use it against me.

“An ice foothold instead of air, you are quite good to come up with that.”

Before he could charge again, I took a defensive stance ready to stop him at a moment’s notice.

“How can you read my moves? Did you also play Free World? But how come you didn’t recognize this style, it is practically the most famous thing in game. Even the game’s promotional videos include this person’s sword fights.”

He charged at me again. This time it was faster and more aggressive. This is wrong, you must remain calm in battle otherwise you will make mistakes like overestimating the distance or jumping at the wrong moment.

“If one remains clear-headed he can see much more than when he is overwhelmed with emotions. Because of that I can do this.”

Crossing my swords and holding them in reverse grip, I intercepted his charge and
completely stopped his momentum. And because he wasn’t calm and collected he wasn’t able to evade it at all. Well, I can say that he did practice a lot compared to Hii-chan and his company, but sadly it was not enough. It would have been better if he had developed his own style instead of trying to copy mine.

“How? How can you do this easily? Not even the royal guard captain was able to beat me when I was using this style.”

“First… I never said I didn’t play Free World, you just assumed it. Second… that sword style you are using is nothing compared to the original, you lack too much. And third… I made it clear more than once in-game: my sword style is absolute!”

Jumping backwards as far as I could I took l the real stance for White Charge. It was lower and narrower than his. Then kicking the ground I attacked Ishikawa-kun. Just like I did earlier, he tried to block my charge, but I was anticipating it. Do you really think I would fall for my own move.

Switching my swords so that they both point forward instead of jumping up I slipped past him. As I did that, I put one of my swords between his body and swords and with the other I circled around him putting it just by his neck. With that he was completely under my control.

“Flying Sword Art: Black Bind, I bet you didn’t expect this, did you now?”

“Y..you?! How can you do this? Are you the real one? Really the one they call The Calamity of Crown Colosseum?”

He lowered his weapons admitting his defeat, but the excitement in his voice was obvious. Upon hearing it was my victory I immediately released him.

“Please do not call me like that. It is embarrassing. It was a good match”

I struck a victory pose in front of him after saying that and then immediately I left the stage and went to the viewing platform. Ishikawa-kun was following directly behind me.

“Maeda-sama please teach me your sword style!”

“No way in hell!”

I replied immediately. Now way do I want to do something so bothersome. Especially when the person looks like he will keep on nagging me all the time even if I do accept him as my disciple. Simply said, it is a nuisance.

“How harsh! Please think it through Maeda-sama. Your sword shines so beautifully and I wish to be able to wield that sword. I swear to train it diligently to master it under your tutelage.”

“And I said no. Teaching others, I have no plans on doing that. This sword lives and dies with me so stop bothering me.”

“Maeda-sama please reconsider. It would be a terrible shame to let it die.”

I ignored him, if I had known he would be like this I shouldn’t have shown anything in the first place. There was a ten minute break before my next fight. My opponent this time is the adventurer of the group, but as soon as we got to the stage he admitted defeat. Last fight for the group A was Count Mirez against Ishikawa-kun and after a few minutes of struggling Ishikawa-kun was
able to prevail and win against the count. With that he became the second person to pass the group stage alongside me.

“Did you see that Maeda-sama? I am sure to successfully learn your sword style, so please teach me!”

“No, don’t you have ears? Stop being a nuisance!”

“Then, if i get to the finals you must take me as a disciple.”

Without even hearing my answer, he dashed away and left the arena. Heaving a sigh I left the area prepared for the competitors and moved to find a better position to observe the upcoming battles. It will only get harder from this moment on, so I need to collect my information diligently.
