CHAPTER 69 – REFUSAL

“Honorable Boss please have a seat, we saved the best spot possible. Since you are not from around here, we took the liberty to collect any information about all the competitors. If you have any questions feel free to ask. We will do our best to assist you, Honorable boss.”

My group of followers are simply too capable. I never asked them to do anything nor did I plan to, but they all look so eager to help. Well, since this is the case I guess I don’t mind being their boss. I have no idea what Thanatos-sama did to them, but since he decided to give them to me I will make sure to take care of them.

“Thank you everyone, but you should stop calling me Honorable Boss. It makes me feel like I am running some illegal underground organization. Just call me Naoko, you are all my seniors at the guild.”

“To address you otherwise will be unthinkable. You are our Honorable Boss, as long as you give the order we will do our utmost to complete it.”

Urgh, creepy. I sat down on the seat they prepared while trying not to show disgust on my face. Seriously they should just relax and not do anything, because when they are like this it makes me uncomfortable.

“Very well, I don’t really plan on having you do anything especially not dangerous, but since you are all behaving like this I might as well give you something in return. Recently, I came across some property here, if you ever need a place to stay I’ll make sure you can use it anytime. Just keep it clean afterwards.”

Since I didn’t plan on living in Kapitalia, it would be a waste not to use that mansion for anything. They might as well use it when they need to. I was kinda expecting they would start cheering and praising me as soon as I said that, but when they all remained silent I was surprised. I turned around to look at them only to notice they were all crying.

“To think our Honorable Boss is so magnamonius, quickly spread the news. Tell everyone, prepare everything. Our Honorable Boss gave us headquarters in Kapitalia.”

Wait, no! This is not what I had in mind. Before I could stop them, they all ran off leaving me alone surrounded by several bewildered people. Pretending as if nothing happened and that those people have nothing to do with me, I began paying attention to the competitors climbing the stage preparing to fight. I need to take note of who I should be wary of, since I might come across them in the future.

From the corner of my eye, I noticed a man wearing black robes as he sat down right
next to me. I couldn’t see his face. At first I planned on ignoring him, but he began talking to me and I immediately recognized him.

“Naoko-san, those are quite the loyal followers you have. It makes me wonder how they are able to adore you so much since they only met you a few days ago. That man who was with you is quite something to do this for you. Actually I came to tell you to come to the palace after the tournament today. I have something to talk to you about.”

“Crown Prince, it is nothing you have to worry about. If you ask me to come I cannot refuse, but I must warn you to be careful as how your behaviour may look on the outside. After all, I am nothing but a girl from out of town.”

“I disagree. I’ll be seeing you later, Viscountess.”

With those words he left. Just what on earth is he planning? Trying to figure out his meaning left me unfocused on the battles going on. By the time I regained my thoughts two fights have already passed.

One after another people fought until everything was done for the day. Eight people passed the group stage and headed for quarterfinals. My opponent was Nakamura Daisuke.

This will be interesting. I wonder just how much did he improve from when I fought him back in Orzak. I really wanted to go against Earl Orzak, but this is just as good.

Since the opponents have been announced, I was planning on slipping away, but before I could even get a few steps away a maid intercepted me. She grabbed my hand and literally dragged me towards a carriage waiting outside the arena.

“Naoko-san surely you weren’t thinking about eluding me. Come we shall have dinner together.”

He held the door open for me. With a shove, the maid almost threw me inside. So rude. We drove to the castle where the dinner was already prepared. It was way too extravagant with so much food, considering there were only two of us eating. So wasteful, I might as well store it in the inventory for a later day.

“Naoko-san who was that man the other day?”

So this is what he was planning to talk about.

“He saved my life when I died and gave me a new opportunity to live. He is my patron and protector. He is the reason why I am able to stand where I am today.”

“To me it sounded more like a lover, but there is one thing that really annoys me about him. He said that he would be the one to give me permission to court you. No man can do that to me!”

So this is what was bothering him. He wasn’t able to make me injured this whole time, so his deal with Thanatos-sama only lies on his ability to defeat me in the tournament. Heh, so petty and stupid.

“You are absolutely right, no man can deny you that right.”

“You agree? Does that mean you are accepting my proposal?”

“No, what I meant is that no man can deny you, but I as a woman in question can refuse and deny you all I want. This is my life and my love so others have no right to judge me for my choices. That is why I refuse you proposal Crown Prince, Vitou-sama.”

The look of shock and disbelief on his face was priceless, this must be the first time he was rejected so directly. I have no desire to involve myself with royalty at this point in time.

Besides there is a man I want to aim at; the mysterious man I met several times. Unlike this prince, he was the one looking like a prince charming from fairy tales. Moreover, that person seems to know more about me than anyone else and that only intrigues me further.

Turning my back to the still stunned prince, I left the room and headed towards the mansion which was completely renovated and rearranged to work as headquarters for some organization with offices, storage rooms, and sleeping quarters. Seriously how can those guys work so efficiently. Don’t they have real work to do instead of messing around here.
