CHAPTER 71 – THE DUST SETTLES

“Ladies and gentlemen the quarterfinals are beginning. On my mark… Ready…”

A magic showdown, to do this I need to rely on elementals to counter Nakamura-kun and meet his magic head on.

“Set…”

Clasping both of my hands in front of my chest and closing my eyes I began focusing all my mana which was surging violently inside me.

“START!”

The moment the referee gave the start signal I unleashed the focused mana all around me. I could sense that the same thing was happening across from me. Just that he was focusing on his staff instead of around him.

Very soon the very space around us was filled with so much pressure it was becoming hard to breathe. I swear I heard cries of pain coming from the audience. Feeling that I have gathered more than enough mana, I raised both hands and began my chant. Before speaking a single word there were already elementals gathered and ready to go.

“Come elementals, I am the one calling for your help in exchange for my mana. take it and hear my words. Strike the enemy and overpower his magic.”

As I said that, a thunderbolt straight from the clear skies struck next to me, and in its place a humanoid creature well over two meters high stood proudly. His face had no expression and electricity kept flickering around him. From the sensation he gave off, I realized that he was an elemental, but one very different at the same time.

“Elements I command you to bend under my will and manifest. Gather and strike!”

Behind Nakamura-kun five elements; fire, earth, wind, water and light manifested and as it passed through the staff, they merged together.

‘Human Child, you are very loved by many elementals including my own children and they often speak fondly of you. They talk about how you speak with them and give them mana so I came to check it myself.’

A deep male voice sounded inside my head. I immediately understood that this belong to the huge elemental. Unlike the small elementals I encountered so far this one sounded mature and powerful.

‘I am honored to have so many of them like me. All of them helped me numerous times so I am eternally grateful.’

‘Your mana is pure and heart sincere. I am sure I can leave my kids in your care. Today I will help you, I heard your plea and will overpower the enemy’s magic. Listen to your heart and call out my name.’

“Maeda-san feel the power of my magic and prepare to admit defeat. Five element cannon!”

The large mass of magic shot out from his staff towards me. Like in a trance, I raised my hands and holding them out towards the approaching shot I uttered a single name.

“Raijin!”

As soon as that name was spoken, a storm of thunder and lightning roared inside the
arena, The giant elemental which so far have been hidden from the sight of others materialized.

In between the thundering, I could hear the screaming audience that was scared with the sudden change of weather.

Mimicking my gesture, the elemental faced the incoming magic and countered it. The
moment it hit Nakamura’s magic, an explosion sounded out in the arena, stirring up the dust and making everyone blinded.

‘Child your might was shown and opponent overpowered. I shall give you this one small gift in hopes it will bring help to you. Just by being able to summon me makes it that you have fate with my lightning element. I hope you will grow up strong and continue to take care of my children.’

It placed its hand on the top of my head and I felt a jolt of electricity run through me. The next moment he disappeared. Wondering what his words meant, I called upon some wind elementals to clear away the dust.

I could hear that the audience was restless as well, considering the impatient cries coming towards us. When the dust finally settled, there were countless cries of surprise and disbelief upon seeing the situation on the stage; Nakamura was on all fours barely gasping for air with blood coming out of the mouth and nose, while I remained standing as if nothing had happened just now.

“Ladies and gentlemen we have our first semifinalist, Viscountess Maeda.”

Once the announcement was made, there was no reaction from those gathered, but when the shock passed and they realized it was over, a round of cheering erupted. I was led away by the staff of the arena to a special waiting room. I would not be allowed to watch the other matches so that the opponent can hide some of his strength from the upcoming opponent. I really didn’t mind this since I already saw previous matches, so I didn’t kick up a fuss over not being able to watch the matches.

As soon as I was left alone in the room, I began to recover my mana. It didn’t look like it on the stage, but summoning that huge elemental really drained me. If I want to have a standing chance against anyone in the upcoming semifinals, I would need to be as close to my top form as possible.

***ERIK’S POV***

What the heck was that thing? Just what on earth was that magic? How can she control lightning when she has no such magic? How am I supposed to control her?”

“You… go and tell Vitou that no matter what he must defeat Naoko-chan and marry her. If he doesn’t he can kiss goodbye his benefits.”

The guard that was called up immediately ran off to pass the message. Seeing him in a hurry made me really glad. At least I have Vitou, he may not have as versatile repertoire of magic as Nakamura-kun but when it comes to experience and use of magic, he will always prevail over others. And when Naoko-chan joins me, that will truly be the beginning of the era of Elicia Kingdom.
