CHAPTER 77: DREAM’S NIGHT

“Umm… I did ask you before, but what exactly made you come to Kapitalia?”

I needed to set up a summoning circle to be able to perform a summoning and contract another being. While I was getting ready my mystery man way lying down on the grass lazing around.

“Hmm… good question, it’s for an opportunity. Well either way you will see tomorrow.”

He was simply too secretive. I can’t get anything out of him. Forget about it, I might as well abandon every hope of normal conversation. If he doesn’t want to talk more, I don’t think there is anyone alive that can make him speak.

“This summoning magic, I am pretty sure everyone is able to use it. Why don’t you spread the word about it? You could get lots of benefits if you contribute the knowledge.”

“True, but I have no plans on leaking anything about it. Besides, they are already aware of its existence it’s just that they are not recognizing it as magic, but rather a divine intervention.”

I am positive he already tried summoning magic after seeing me summon Daphira last time and he was successful in his attempt. After all he was able to see the entire process of summoning, but why is he asking me this? Should I take this as his way to chatter idly? Good, he’s opening up to me. I am making much progress.

“Are you talking about Hero Summoning?”

“Indeed I am… the gods do intervene, but what they do is choose people to grant them power and represent them instead of summoning random people off the street. However, the ones that take the initiative are people of this world, if they don’t start the magic there will be no Hero Summoning.”

“I must say that is an interesting theory and it does go along the lines of what the guardians would do. I am not sure about the others.”

Something seemed odd about this sentence, but I couldn’t figure out what. It felt like something kept on poking me on the back of my head, but I just couldn’t find out what it was and after a while I stopped thinking about it completely. I focused on drawing the circle. I opted for a dark attributed circle with additional markers for stealth, shadow and silence. Since I needed something to pull off a surprise attack, I wanted to get a good match for that so I added additional factors even though by doing that the chance of failing increases.

“Okay this looks good to me, now for the fun part; Mystery man please stay alert, I have absolutely no idea what will come out of this and it would be a bad thing if you happen to get hurt.”

“Yes ma’am I am being fully alert.”

I could hear sarcasm in his voice. He was not taking me seriously at all. He even saluted me while lying down. Well honestly speaking, he really does have the right to be lazy with his strength. I gave up on trying to warn him and began slowly to input mana inside the circle.

Unlike the last time where I was almost dried up with mana consumption, this time I hardly felt the drain, to a point I was worried I would fail the summoning. Luckily the circle began to glow slightly, which meant that there was a connection and it was unlikely that it would be a failure.

It soon became obvious the magic was a success as a form began to materialize inside the circle. At first it was well within the circle, but it soon outgrew the circle and broke off entirely, however it did not stop growing.

Suddenly, I was afraid, just how large is this summoned creature? I didn’t know if I would need to fight it or not, but either way I don’t think this will be a good match for stealth or assassination attributes that I was going for.

“Oh, it seems you got yourself something interesting. I knew staying by your side wouldn’t be boring. But your luck really is great, you have no idea how many times I tried to summon something before I succeeded. You make even me feel jealous.”

“Shut up… I am not your entertainment.”

I was rather harsh to him since I didn’t like this situation and there he was making it sound like a joke. The shape was already over six meters long and three meters high. But it seemed to stop expanding becoming more and more substantial.

I finally recognized the shape of a giant wolf as it was looking down on me. This was not a good thing for me. It looked really terrifying. His hide was pitch black with two white streaks over his eyes and his snout. It did look stealth in the dark, but I was worried this might not work out well for me.

“Who dares to call me?!”

To the outside world it might have sounded like a roar or a growl, but thanks to my skill [Language Comprehension] I could understand him as if he was speaking Japanese to me.

“I am the one that called you. My name is Maeda Naoko, I wish to form a contract with someone as great as you.”

“Human, you can understand my words, that is impressive. But no matter how much you flatter me, I refuse to bow down to anyone weaker than me. If you can make me cower in fear before your might I will consider signing a contract with you.”

Without waiting any longer, he released all his killing intent and tried to suffocate me. If I was an ordinary girl I just might have screamed and started trembling, but sadly that was not the case. This wolf chose a wrong opponent. If he wanted me to show him power, then that is what I am going to do.

I licked my lips and a smile appeared on my face. There is no need to hold back right now. Combining the effects of my own killing intent with several of the titles I hold that can pressure others, I let this wolf show just who exactly is the real deal. Right now I am the Queen and there is nobody above me; not this wolf, not the Crown Prince or the King, not even the gods themselves.

“Please stop, I yield… I am called Yoru, a Great Dreamwolf, I offer you my name and comply with the contract. I recognize you as my master, just stop pressuring me like this. I made a mistake, please don’t punish me anymore. I had eyes but I couldn’t see your greatness, please forgive me my master.”

“Don’t worry Yoru, I will take great care of you. From now on we are a team.”

The wolf made a small nod before disappearing upon being released from summoning magic. Tomorrow I will let him have his debut in front of huge audience. I bet nobody will see it coming. But first, I have to deal with something.
