CHAPTER 79: THE GRAND FINALE

When I finally got back to the mansion, my merry group of adventurers have stopped arguing and were sleeping all over the place seemingly content with themselves. Using this chance for a little bit of peace and quiet, I went to the backyard and summoned Yoru once again. I needed to learn everything about his skills and power and how to best coordinate with him. By the time I was done, the sun had already risen.

With the sun up and my preparations done, I decided to treat myself with some hot chocolate and took out my trusty Cup o’ Sweetness. The warm drink felt good and washed away my weariness. Thanks to the good luck charm I received earlier, all my stress and anxiety was washed away. He may be a mystery, but he sure knows what to do to help me. I wonder what is he doing right now, he said he has something to do in the capital and that I will be able to find out today.

The day passed slowly and the appointed time of 4PM soon arrived. I was at the arena doing maintenance on my weapons when Ishikawa-kun arrived.

“Maeda-san I have failed you and your sword style. Since I wasn’t able to reach the finals, I have no right to call myself your disciple. For now I will not ask you to teach me. I will become stronger and then at that time, I will come to ask for your guidance once again.”

Please don’t, it is too much trouble. Just deal with it yourself. I already have my hands full with my own problems. I don’t need another thing to add on, besides teaching is not something I will do ever in my life. There are just way too many things to think about and that is not what I want to do. Definitely teaching is one thing I vow not to do.

“Don’t undermine yourself so much, you still have to fight for the third place. I am sure that even without my help you will reach great heights.”

“I may become strong, but I don’t think it can be compared to you or the Crown Prince. You people are the real monsters when it comes to strength.”

Me, a monster? Well it is nice to be acknowledged, but I really didn’t think I would be compared to a monster. Mulling over this, I passed the time and Earl Orzak came over looking glum and angry, followed by the Crown Prince a few minutes later. He on the other hand was very cheerful. Greeting both of them with a smile, I got an unintelligible answer from the Earl and upbeat one from the Crown Prince.

“Naoko-chan, you sure look better than you did last night. Did you finally come to terms with your upcoming defeat and decided to let yourself be mine?”

Where does he get his confidence from? It was still too early to decide anything. I just smiled at his words and didn’t say anything. I can’t have him thinking I have a plan to beat him. The chance I have is minimal and if he is expecting it, the plan would fail for sure.

At five o’clock sharp Earl Orzak and Ishikawa-kun left the waiting room. I must say that I was a bit worried about the Earl, since he did drink a lot last night, but not even ten minutes later both of them were back, Earl Orzak looking as glum as ever and Ishikawa-kun was even worse being utterly devastated. I could guess the outcome; the Earl didn’t want to deal with anything so he ended the match before it could even begin and Ishikawa-kun lost without even doing anything.

The final battle with the Crown Prince was scheduled to start at six o’ clock. From the sound of music coming from the arena, I had a feeling that they would not move up the match, despite there being so much time between the two fights. Well it doesn’t matter to me since it would be the same whether I fight now or an hour later.

I was standing at the arena entrance along with the Crown Prince, waiting to be called
onto the stage. I knew that this will be the hardest battle so far and it will be worthy of being the grand finale. Taking a deep breath to calm myself, I listened to the announcers’ words.

“Ladies and gentlemen, the time has finally arrived. We have our final match in the tournament and this time around there is quite the unexpected contestant.”

“Our first competitor is this tournament’s dark horse. She appeared out of nowhere and swept away all competition. Coming all the way from the Eastern Earldom’s Town of Orzak, she defeated all the opponents she faced with her unparalleled sword skills and skillful magic. She is known as Elemental Empress and holds the title of a Viscountess, please welcome Naoko Maeda.”

Cheers exploded from the viewing stands as I walked in. Thankfully they didn’t announce height and weight otherwise that would be super embarrassing. Waving to the audience I jumped onto the stage.

“Her opponent, as well as fan favorite, is the man we all know and admire very much. He is the person that showed us his might many times and always remained undefeated. His magic stuns each and every person that witnesses it. Please welcome the Crown Prince and the one claiming the title of the Untouchable One, Vitou von Elicia.”

If the cheers were loud earlier, then now they are simply deafening. He was that much more popular which is to be expected. He didn’t wave or even greet the audience. He simply held his head high and walked proudly onto the stage. This made him seem like a real ruler, worthy of his dignity.

This was it, the time to find out who the strongest person in this tournament is. Standing opposite each other we listened to the rules one last time before it would be time to cross our blades.

“I want a fair fight from the both of you, understand?”

“Understood!”

“Understood!”

“Since that is the case, get ready… FIGHT!”
