CHAPTER 91: PROGRESS

After coming back to Orzak town, three months have passed. And if I could describe those three months in a single word it would be grinding. In the fight against Earl Orzak and the Crown Prince, I realized I was still lacking in many areas so I decided to improve myself and practice.

The one thing I didn’t grind is levels. I was much more focused on my skill masteries. I already had an overwhelming amount of stat numbers, but without proficiency in skills and using those stats, all of it would be meaningless. That is why I didn’t want to level up at all.

Magic was one aspect I was intensely experimenting with. After the creation magic was revealed to the public it caused a lot of commotion since new magic isn’t often found and a lot of people have started practicing it, which sadly forced me out of my usual training spots, since I didn’t want to be seen while training.

Using this time, I took a break from physical labor and tried to think about other magic I could use and how to best use it. The only magic I was rather curious to experiment with is spirit possession, elemental contracts and what I was presuming belonged to dark magic.

After countless hours spent on training, I was able to conjure a spirit form that could leave my body and enter other creatures for a limited time, but each time I did that, I would end up feeling dizzy and nauseous. So I should only use this when I have someone to protect me.

Elemental magic was much easier to do since I could just ask the elementals. Contracting elementals is a very rare phenomenon because not only do you need to find a vessel in which the elemental would reside in, you also need to find an elemental that approves of you and is willing to serve under an elementalist for all of eternity, since these contracts cannot be broken. From what they told me there hasn’t been any such case in the history of this world.

The last magic that I wanted to learn was gravity magic. Since I could make things lighter or heavier, I had a thought that I could learn how to control the gravity itself. Even the sealed skill of Amethyst has a gravity related effect. Sadly, no matter how I tried, I made no progress whatsoever. The only thing I ended up with was countless precious hours spent for naught.

As I was training, my typical day would look something like this: I’d get up at dawn, eat breakfast, hit the market to buy whatever I found I might use then head out of town and practice.

My main source of income was doing small delivery requests which were finished soon since I was using the method the Earl taught me.

In the mornings, I would focus on my skills and in the afternoon after completing whatever request I had, I would practice magic up until it was too dark to see. Upon returning to the town, I would head to the guild and read some books to expand my knowledge and then just before midnight I would return to the inn.

Since my stats already had high values there was no change despite the daily exercise, but even without that I felt I was fit and I could move my body easier than three months ago.

This made me conclude that despite the number on your stats, unless you train your body you will not be able to utilize those numbers at all. I guess it is like playing a high tech game on sh**ty computer; no matter how good your character is you will lag and lose against those with better hardware.

The last thing I should mention is that I gained a few new titles. One day I woke up to find out that a title [Leader] appeared on my status. I was confused about it at first since I barely interacted with people the past days and all of sudden, this appeared when I realized it is most likely related to my group back at the capital. They must have done something for this world to recognize that I have become their leader for real.

The other title is [Work-out maniac]. I don’t know what to think about this title. I am really happy about its effect of improved ability to learn and master things when focusing on it for over two hours, but the moment I got it, I realized I might have gone a bit overboard with how much I was putting into practicing. It was not like I was going against the demon lord and needed to be so strong. At most, I will need to have strength to defeat monsters so I could earn enough money to live day by day, something I can already do with ease.

Overall, I feel that I have gotten a lot stronger. The new skills I was able to learn thanks to my [Tabula Rasa] unique skill, all made me feel more at ease whenever I go out to subdue monsters, since I could adapt to new situations much easier. I also feel that others would think twice before taking me on. I should be counted as a dangerous opponent. Hopefully that will make less people willing to challenge me. I don’t want some pretentious people to come knocking on my door to prove themselves by defeating me. This is something that I had to deal a lot with after my legendary victory over five hundred people in-game. So I really hope something like that doesn’t happen this time around.
