CHAPTER 95: GUARDIAN OF THE DEEP

“Naonao… bad thing coming. I’m off!”

And just like that, all the water elementals ran away before I could utter a single word. Luckily, the wind and light elementals remained. If they left I would be in deep trouble. That roar only seemed to have an effect on water elementals. Whatever it was that made that sound, it should have very strong powers over water, considering the water elementals were so frightened just by hearing the roar and not even coming close to this thing.

As I felt danger from that roar, I immediately activated all my hiding skills and let the light elementals go. Whatever was hiding in here, I had absolutely no intention to fight it. Not without armor and a decent weapon or inside water where my movement is limited. If we were on land, and I could freely move and use my magic, this would be a different story to tell.

As fast as I could, I began swimming towards the surface as that was the only way to escape. But before I could implement that plan, it was foiled because the moment I started moving, the demon appeared behind and bit down. If it weren’t for space magic that I activated at the very last moment, I would be done for. I didn’t think that it could attack so fast and with such precision.

“Ssss-tupid human… ssshhow yourself!”

It can talk? Wait, did he say he can’t see me? But how could he have attacked me so precisely earlier? I was certain that I hid myself well. Since he can’t see me then I should try and sneak away and not bother to deal with this demon. I tried to move away, but once again just like before I barely escaped death.

“You can’t essscape me human. I can always sssensse you.”

Well this is bad. Still in hiding I replied to it for the first time.

“I don’t want to… you will eat me.”

“Of course… you came here to my territory and took my ssstuff. SSSo you will become mine now.”

This was not in the job description. All I had to do is find the pendant. Nobody said anything about this. I moved my hand to take out my sword from the inventory when I sensed the demon move and jump at me. Teleporting away again, I froze once again.

“You can sense my movement, that is one nasty skill.”

“SStop escaping human demon… How can you move ssso fassst?”

I still couldn’t see anything. I had to buy time for my mana to recover to the peak now that I was barely using any elementals. But remaining unmoving is much harder than I thought, especially underwater.

“It’s a secret, can’t reveal it.”

“SSStop joking… ssshhow yourself now and let me tasste you.”

“Not the best offer I must say. You see I very much prefer being alive over being eaten.”

“SShut up.”

It sounded really angry. I used this moment to Blink away to another place, still on the
lakebed so I can easily stop my movements.

“Why are you ssstill here humans. I thought I killed you all yearsss ago. You ssstopped coming to take my sstuff.”

Could the armor and weapons come from everyone that tried to get the pendant in the past? But how did the ghost woman stop the rain before without the pendant? I decided to Blink again, but I miscalculated and landed above the lakebed and began moving.

“Found you demon human.”

This is bad, I don’t know where I needed to move to evade the demon. Feeling I couldn’t lose anything I called all the light elementals to flash a light brightly. Luckily, this bold move worked as the sudden bright light made the demon cringe away and I could escape death once again. But upon seeing the demon clearly, I felt a bit helpless.

It looked like a serpent and it was huge. It was something like those monsters that you think don’t even exist and are always described by sailors that used to sail the seas centuries ago. I highly doubted I could escape or even kill it. Not only was it huge but its entire body looked like it was covered with hard scales.

“I can sssee you human… alwaysss ssso ssmall. Sssay goodbye.”

Sh*t… I let off all the light elementals and used Blink to escape the moment darkness returned.

“SSStop doing thisss… I am the guardian of the deep. Nobody can essscape my jawsss.”

This way I won’t get anywhere. Escaping was not an option so fighting is all I could do right now.

Coming to terms with that, my heart stopped racing and I became calm. Since this was a fight now, I will go all out. The killing intent and the aura of my [Deathgod] title which I always kept in check were seeping out.

“You… you… Who are you demon? How can you sshow thisss power.”

A hint of panic was heard in his voice. It appears that nobody ever tried to resist him and fight him in his life. Good, I will show you a reason to panic, so panic and be afraid of meeting me in a fight. Imitating his speech, I decided to bet it all on this attack and wished to activate my [Chuunibyou] skill, in hopes it evens out odds just a tiny bit.

“Pleasssed to meet you… I will make you meet your maker.”

Calling upon light elementals I took out my sword from the inventory and moved towards the giant serpent meeting it head on. From the outside it looked like a suicide attack, but I had no intention to give up neither my life nor this battle. This was my time to survive.

The serpent met my attack with open jaws ready to take my life. Going headstrong the two of us met staking our lives on this battle and with a snap of its jaw, I was swallowed whole by this demon.
