CHAPTER 96: AT DEATH’S DOOR

I was inside the serpent’s mouth. As soon as it tried to swallow me, I used [Blink] to grab a hold of one of its giant teeth and waited. I had to make sure he thought I died, then I would make my move. To ensure this, I even dumped a corpse of some monster down its throat.

The serpent wasn’t very bright and as soon as it swallowed the monster, I heard it cry out in victory making my ears hurt. I had to wait and only after it calmed down and stopped thinking about me would I dare to strike.

Now that I was inside I had several options to deal with it. I could slice it however I
wanted, since its insides were not protected with scales. The second option was to boil it slowly from the inside making its end marked with misery. The third option that I could think of would be to mess with it and drive it to insanity, but that would need the help of water elementals and I don’t think they are willing to help me at the moment.

The most efficient way would be to use the fire elementals, since slashing it would take time considering the size of the serpent and sadly I didn’t have much knowledge of snake anatomy, especially not one as large as this one, so I could not tell where the weak point of the snake is. After some more deliberating, I decide to go with option number two.

“Come fire elementals, gather around me and take my mana in exchange for your help. Wind elementals join me and help me.”

The plan way like this; fire elementals would heat up all the water present inside the serpent and the wind elementals will put up a barrier of air that will prevent water from the outside to enter the serpent, however if it tries to spit out the hot water it will allow it.

It was important that the water boils slowly, so that it doesn’t notice something is wrong until it is too late. This attack was dangerous, since I would be affected as well, but I was sure to be able to make it out alive and that is the only thing that mattered.

I set everything in motion. I wanted it to feel something is wrong only once the water has become too hot and the serpent was sustaining damage from it. Only then would he realize that I am not an opponent to be taken lightly. The best option for me is for the snake to spit me out and then use the momentum I have and Blink as far away as I can. I am counting on it to be flailing around and not bother to deal with me while I make my escape.

Time passed slowly… It was excruciating to only be waiting for something to happen. Several times I wanted to speed up the process, but in the end stopped myself, otherwise it would have been all for naught. After what seemed like an eternity, I was able to sense that the temperature of water inside the serpent’s mouth had risen and became slightly warm. This was still too early, but I finally had a feeling something was happening which gave me the willpower to endure the wait.

Come on you little beastie, come and feel the pain. I will show you the might of an elementalist that has [Merciless] and [Deathgod] title. Minute after minute had passed and I began to feel the temperature rising from mildly cold towards warm. The serpent which was calm up until now began moving much more. This told me that it started to feel the change.

Change of plans… I will warm up things a bit more slowly and then when it tries to spit me out I will not allow it. I will increase the heat until it boils. And only once it begs for its life will I stop and force it to bring me to the place where I saw the sword to check it out.

“Hehe, finally I will be able to gain another sword. If this is the real deal, I will be one step closer to my current goal.”

The twitching of the serpent was becoming more violent. Even I began feeling uneasy. This told me it was about time to reveal I was not really dead as the serpent thought. But before I could do that, I needed it to feel more despair.

Once I felt like it was too much for me to endure peacefully, I finally exploded my power and exerted my pressure to make sure it can sense that I was alive. And to make it even worse for the snake, I had the fire elementals speed up the process of boiling the water.

“Curssesss why are you ssstill alive human demon?!”

I could sense its maniacal swimming and thrashing around. Every time it crashed into something, the shock would stun me for a second.

“What devildry did you do to me? It hurtsss. It hurtsss sso much.”

Infusing my voice with mana to make sure it spreads out far and echoes around I declared to the serpent my intentions.

“You will never get rid of me. If you want to live I can allow it, but in return you will pledge allegiance to me and for the rest of your life follow my orders. I will turn you into my tamed beast.”

What am I saying? This is not according to my plan. Actually, I should have thought of that before. I guess my mind is more brilliant than what I thought.

“Never! I will never bow down to lowly creaturesss that are humansss. Esspecially not to you, human demon.”

“Very well… enjoy your afterlife.”

The water was scorching hot and it was hurting both the serpent and me. Several times the serpent tried to swallow more water or spit out the boiling water, but the air barrier prevented it. I could hear its cries of agony. The sound was giving me the creeps as it was utterly heartbreaking. I was starting to have second thoughts about my plan as I deemed it to be too cruel.

“You demon human, no devil human, I curssse you. I curssse you devil. May you rot for all eternity.”

“I can still save you from death’s door, all you have to do is submit to me and I will even heal all your injuries.”

It didn’t reply. I had thought that it had resigned itself to death. I was about to end its misery when I got my reply.

“Curssse you human devil. I sssubmit to you. I sshall ssserve you until the day you die ssso ssstop thisss torture.”

As soon as it said those words I released all the magic that was boiling the water and immediately ordered the light elementals to heal the serpent.
