CHAPTER 99: NEVER JUDGE BASED ON APPEARANCE

“Dead should be dead.”

It was a simple incantation; however the reaction it created was nothing short of grand. Behind the ghost woman, a giant door well over ten meters in height appeared. The huge doors looked like they were made of obsidian and many motifs of death and underworld were sculpted in it. Daphira flew towards them and just like being dragged, the ghost was being pulled inside them as well. Her screams were piercing my ears as she was trying to resist, but just like it was said before, the ghost was nothing more than a powerless wisp of consciousness. I just had to watch her get dragged away.

“Just who are you? How can you do this to me? I am immortal, I have escaped death, I am invincible!”

The woman screamed in madness until both she and Daphira disappeared beyond the colossal doors that soon began fading away. Once there was nothing in the underground cavern, I felt extremely tired and slumped on the floor powerless. This power is more tasking than I thought it would be.

Closing my eyes I enjoyed the quiet atmosphere while I recovered some of my strength. Once this request is over, I will need a vacation. It feels to me like months have passed since I left Orzak. When I felt like I recovered a bit, I stood up once again and took out my newly acquired sword.

“I just need to scoop you up with this sword, right? Along with some water that is.”

I called out towards the lake since the serpent was not around anymore. After a bit, it surfaced and approached me.

“What are you devil human? How can you sssummon sssuch a creature?”

“I am a normal human, the only thing special about me is that I was brought here with the help of Thanatos-sama. He also said he would adopt me or something like that. And when I first tried summoning magic Daphira appeared. That is all there is to me.”

“Ssso, you’re hisss daughter, in that cassse I don’t mind losssing to you.”

After saying this, the serpent dove underwater and remained in the vicinity. I assumed it was waiting for me to use the sword. While holding it I just imagined activating the skill, but at first, nothing happened. It was odd to me, so I decided once again this time making sure the sword was inside the water and it worked.

The sudden suction of water caught me off guard. The sword was swallowing up water with astonishing speed and also my mana was dropping at an alarming rate. Suddenly, I was scared that I would not be able to stop the skill, but once I thought about it the skill ended and the lake returned to its
calm appearance. Turning my back to this whole chamber, I went up the stairs and headed towards the surface.

It was finally over, the rain should have stopped since the ghost woman is no longer here and now the only thing left to do is to report to the village chief and finish my request. If the rain still continued, I thought about using Mermaid’s Tear myself to figure out how to stop it.

When I reached the temple ground floor and saw the sunny weather outside, I realized all my worries about the cause not being resolved vanished in an instant. It was just a matter of time before I can get some rest and relax. This request has been tiring, but overall worth every trouble I went through.

I have come one step closer to completing the Rainbow Blade and also got another legendary item. Not to mention the amount of wealth I got from looting the temple and the lake.

Just as I was about to leave the temple, a party of six people blocked my path.

“Halt! You can’t pass further!”

A guy, roughly my age, standing at the front of the party spoke up. He was holding a large shield and a sword buckled at his waist. Behind him were two other men with swords and two women; one holding a staff and the other one holding a bow. At the very end stood a guy holding a broadsword.

They looked like a well balanced party with both melee and ranged characters, I suddenly thought about the noble’s party that also took on this request and whether this was that party. Since they took on this B-ranked request, they should have some strength behind them.

“Greetings, I am an adventurer that took on the request about the constant rain in this area as well. My name is Maeda Naoko, Naoko being first name. May I know who are you?”

Honestly speaking, I just wanted to leave as soon as possible and not deal with anyone, but if this really is a noble’s party I don’t want and offend them just because I was tired. A little bit of politeness will not cost anything and can get you many things in return.

“A lowly adventurer dares to speak to me like that. Know your place, I am the son of the local lord here, Baron Georgov. Commoners like yourself are unworthy to speak to me.”

Ah, the typical spoiled noble’s child character. I haven’t seen those in a long time, I almost forgot about them. Since they refused my politeness I will not bother being nice anymore. I just want to go away as soon as possible.

“Oh, I didn’t know. Sorry. Anyways, I don’t plan on holding you up anymore, so just let me pass and you can go play inside all you want.”

“Not so fast. I told you that you can’t pass further. If you want to leave you will have to tell us exactly what you did and hand over everything in your possession. Otherwise you can forget going past here.”

Okay, now he is really crossing all lines here. Not only is he acting preposterous but now he is straight out robbing me and also wanting to take my credit for clearing this request. I swear, I could hear my veins pop on my forehead.

“Aren’t you ashamed of your behavior as a human being? I’ve seen monsters with more dignity than yourself.”

“Who do you think you are to judge me? Nothing will matter either way, even if you say anything, do you think people would believe you, a mere commoner, or me as the noble’s son. Let me tell you this sweetie, nobody cares about you in this world. Status is everything here.”

Scratch that, he is not a spoiled brat. He is pure douchebag. Right now even the last bit of respect I might have held for this person evaporated.

“Your parents must be oh so proud to have you become an arrogant p*ick that has no respect towards others whatsoever.”
