「…Since you are asking us that question, I’m guessing that she must be very young.」

The group lost their words as they saw the priestess who looked no younger than someone in their sixties.
「One month, in just one month, the curse has eaten away her life.」
After hearing the time span “one month” something came to their mind and they all looked at Hiroshi. Hiroshi shook his head in response.
「That one did use an indirect method like tis case. But even if we came here without stoppin’ at Crest Cave, tis curse is already outa my reach.」
「Really?」
「Ye, over a thousand years the curse has been increasin’ tis ability. ‘t not something’ that can be cured by the hands o’ human.」
Elza nodded as if to confirm Hiroshi’s words. With the priestess’s curse, the most they could have done would be to delay the timing for the curse to be activated. So, even if Hiroshi’s party didn’t stop by at the Crest Cave, the result would have been the same.
The fate of this generation’s priestesses has been decided a thousand years ago.
「With this, her bloodline has ended. There is no way I could apologize enough to this girl who has missed out on her most precious days in her youth due to my carelessness. However, I am in no position to grieve or mourn over this tragic incident that has fallen upon her. I must pass over her power of priestess to someone as soon as I can.」
「… It must be very difficult.」
「None of this change the fact that I exist in this world as a Goddess. Although my mistake was the cause of this incident, if I was mourning every time someone has lost their life, I would not be able to carry out my duties. Furthermore, to maintain the structure of the world, many innocent lives have been lost in a name of punishment from God. Although she was my priestess, I have no reason to treat her any differently from others who have passed away.」
As Elza went on passionately, Makoto who was about to comment on how apathetic the whole situation sounded, decided to keep the words to herself. It was easy to forget since most of them have such a disappointing personality. But all the Gods and Goddesses have been placed into this world with the responsibility of maintaining the structure of this world. Due to the presence of priestesses, they appear to be on the same side as people. However, that did not mean that they will always be on the side of people and it did not mean that they will have the same ethics as people either.
「So why did you not disspell the curse and wake her up?」
「Currently, there is no candidate for the priestess so even if I disspelled the curse, I cannot unseal her. If I wake her up carelessly, her life will come to an end before I can transfer her power.」
「… I see.」
Haruna fell silent to the response which she was somewhat expecting. As both Hiroshi and Elza confirmed that there was nothing they can do, the thought that they might have been able to do something in the past was stuck in their mind.
In reality, there was still some hope in saving the priestess when they were helping Alfemina and others from stopping the mines in Forre from turning into a dungeon. But that’s only if Artiem and Aearis had come along with Hiroshi’s group. However, at the time, Hiroshi’s group has only just arrived at Forre. Just because there was a chance, it doesn’t mean that they could have actually changed the outcome of the situation.
「… Haruna, there’s no point in talking about something that clearly has no solution. Let’s change the topic.」
「… Okay.」
They couldn’t keep mumbling on about something that has already happened. Making that decision, the group pushed themselves to change their mindset.
「We now understand the current situation of this temple. Aside from that, we were wondering if you could tell us anything that might help us find a way back to our original universe?」
「I would love to tell you all as much as I can. But Alfemina is responsible for any issues relating to a different universe and Daljan is responsible for anything relating to knowledge and wisdom. Unfortunately, I do not possess a lot of information unless it is related to the physical land or anything that is directly related to myself.」
「In other word, with Alfemina-sama being very busy right now with many constraints and work, it would be difficult to get any relevant information from anyone unless it is from Daljan-sama.」
「Yes, that would be the case. Although we are given the title of Five Major Gods, it does not mean that all the information of the universe is provided evenly among us. We have given Daljan a role to act more or less like a data sensor. However, there are many constraints in passing on information that Daljan has to others. In fact, it has been forbidden to pass on any information which Daljan has to a human unless it is done by Daljan himself. The only exception is if we are passing on any information that is related to our own role. So, in my case, if I obtained information related to the land from Daljan, then I am able to pass that information to you all.」
To Elza’s explanation, the group realised how there are strict rules for everything which was going on. To be honest, it was really inconvenient.
「Then, the next question we wanted ta ask. Maself n’ brother can now use a strange skill but do ya know anythin’ ‘bout those skills?」
「Of course. If everything went as plan, those were the abilities to which I was in charge of awakening the two of you.」
「What?」
Hearing Elza’s response, Hiroshi and Tatsuya reluctantly gave a shocked expression. To put it simply, it sounded like something terrible was about to be told and they couldn’t help it but be scared about it.
「The two skills which Hiroshi-dono is now able to use and the one which Tatsuya-dono is now able to use are both abilities of Gods, or in your words, extra skill. As those are abilities categorized under earth, if you have not awakened to those abilities in the last combat, I was going to help you two awaken to those skills here. After all, the two of you have already met the majority of the requirements.」
「… Welp, I did figure out that ‘twas some kinda extra skill so tis not a problem but…」
「Well, I did think you might have guessed that much.」
「Welp ye, we did guess it. Tis just, since we obtained the skills so forcefully, we’re still not sure how ‘t can be used. ‘t is okay if ya could teach us ‘bout that?」
「Of course.」
As she nodded to Hiroshi’s request, Elza vaguely explained how each of the abilities is used.
「Let’s see, to start off, let’s explain the force field which Hiroshi-dono has awakened to, Guardian Field.」
The first skill which Hiroshi has awakened to, Guardian Field is a skill that can pass over a part of basic defense stat and magic defense stat to anyone within the range of the skill. As it is a basic defense skill, it can ignore aspects like needing an object for the transmission process. The amount in which other’s defense is increased is based on a ratio and it amplifies the basic structure of the skill. However, it can also increase the defense stat that the Guardian Field was used with.
As you can imagine from the phrase “pass over” while Hiroshi has the force field open, his basic defense stat decreases by 10%. Thinking about the characteristics of the skill, if the number of people Hiroshi can pass over his stats increases, the natural thing to assume would be to either decrease the number of people he is passing over his stat to or his stats will decrease significantly. However, both parties won’t experience any impact from passing over. But the cost for stamina and magical energy which are important for maintaining the force field will increase.
The amount that a defense stat can decrease to is fixed at 10%. However, the amount that’s been passed over to another person can increase. The increase in stamina and magical energy cost from adding another person to pass over the stats to changes depending on the skill level. The increase in the stat that can be passed over can increase up to around three-fold.
There is a slight time lag after the force field is being activated but it doesn’t have anything similar to cooling time and there is no time limit for how long the skill can be activated. As long as the player can pay the stamina and magic cost, it is a skill that can be activated all the time. Although, until one can get used to the skill to the point where they can subconsciously pick the people they want to pass over their stats to, it would be impossible to have this skill activated all the time.
「Didn’t really notice ma stats decrease but if ‘t jist 10%, ‘t should be fine.」
「Hiroshi-kun, how was the use up of stamina and other things like that?」
「If ‘t jist two people in middle o’ battle, the auto-recovery rate would match up ta the cost or the rate is a bit faster than the cost so ‘t won’ be a major problem.」
「I see.」
Haruna nodded to Hiroshi’s response. This is expected but “it should be fine” or “it won’t be a major problem” is something that can be said because it was Hiroshi. A skill that can match up with Hiroshi’s stamina and magic recovery rate usually are not suited for being activated for a long time. Also, to add to what Hiroshi said, from this, his armour and constitute ability has increased. So, it also increased his auto-recovery rate, meaning that activating this skill isn’t an issue to him in any aspect.
Also, since this is Hiroshi who possesses an excess amount of defense, losing 10% was nothing to him. But even for Mio who was a combat no-lifer, losing 10% of defense would have a huge impact. If you just do the math with any random number, you would see that defense stat going down by 10% could potentially double the impact that the player gets from an attack. Since it only decreases the basic defense, the impact from losing the stat isn’t the worst thing that can happen. But Guardian Field is definitely not a type of skill that can be used carelessly.
「But what about the other skills?」
「Tatsuya-dono’s skill is called Feng Shui Link. It is as the name suggests. If you would like a detailed explanation of how the skill is used, I would be more than happy to do so.」
「No, I have the general understanding of the skill’s characteristics from the name and from the last battle. The impact the skill has on my physical self can probably be mitigated by getting used to the skill and being able to control the skill. Though, I do have one question. What is the furthest distance of Feng Shui that I can link with? …」
「Once you get used to the skill, you would be able to link with Feng Shui even if you are outside the atmosphere. However, you would need to dedicate yourself to practicing the skill to reach such a level.」
Tatsuya’s face went pale from hearing Elza’s response. The characteristics of the skill sounded super-natural.
