「Haa..」

The air that I breathe out is completely white. It is winter. It is the season during which the guardian deity of Valgentum, the goddess who governs spring, goes into slumber.

Even pulling up the collar of my thick dress coat felt like it helped to fend off the cold, even if it was just a little. I, Filmina Veer Adina, walked alone, briskly along the road in my winter boots,

That’s about it for today’s shopping trip. I planned to make cheese fondue for dinner tonight. Cheese was one of the favorite foods of the man I called my husband. I’m sure he’ll be glad. He essentially devours anything that I make. But that’s exactly why I want to make something all the more delicious for him to enjoy. That’s just how a wife’s heart works.

But, thinking about it. I don’t think I bought that large a number of ingredients. Yet, the basket felt unreasonably heavy to me. Was it just my imagination? For some reason, the flu this year seemed to be very persistent. I had been feeling unexplainably feverish and cold for quite a while now. I’ve lost count of the number of times that that man has run his mouth dry telling me: 「Just behave yourself and sleep until you get better.」while furrowing his good-looking eyebrows. But, no matter what I’m told, these small things just did not seem like a big deal to me at all. Things like, losing my appetite, or having a slight headache, or feeling sleepy even when I sleep well. There’s no way that I could sleep in the entire day just because of all these little things.

If it was some sort of curse like before, I would already have asked that man to help me counteract it accordingly.  But despite his best efforts in checking whether there was some sort of magic acting on me, he reached the conclusion it wasn’t anything of that sort. If so, it means that this was really just me being sick.

Yet, no matter how many times I tell him that this wasn’t anything big, that man, with his feminine good looks, would make a glum face. Of course, it wasn’t that I didn’t understand how he felt. If it were him who was suffering all the time, feeling sick for unknown reasons, I wouldn’t be able to stand still without saying something either. However, that man has always been a worry-wart when it came to me. From the way he acted, some might even call him overprotective. If I really did listen to everything that he, a man who would intervene in whatever I did, I wouldn’t be able to do anything at all.

…Although, if he argued that the reason for that was because of how I acted in the past, I don’t think I’d have a good counterargument. As if to mumble my troubles to someone, I let out a sigh. Because of my fever, my breath was white after all. Were「my troubles」because of my health? Or were they because of that man, who worried so much about me that he’d become overprotective? Concluding that it was a mixture of both, I picked up my pace. I should go home so that I can start making preparations for dinner earlier.

Happening to look up at the sky, I noticed that it was covered heavily by thick, dark-looking clouds. It might snow tonight. When I think about snow, I think about that young man, He had vivid, copper-colored eyes, beautiful hair that was a playful mixture of colors that resembled an aurora, as well as bright light brown skin. His smile appeared in my mind. He was one of the central figures surrounding the recent incident at the Blue Sky Desert. He was the prospective marriage partner of Princess Clementine, who was the pride of our country, our living jewel. I gave him the name「Snow」because of how pure his heart was, such that it resembled pure white snow. When we were parting, there was something that he said.

ーSomeday, a piece of news of great happiness will be brought upon the both of you.

Snow said with a playful smile. Up until now, I could not decipher what the words he said meant. As such, the costume that women wore during auspicious occasions in the Blue Sky Desert that Snow had sent after the incident was still kept in storage. If I had understood whatever he called「great happiness」or the「auspicious occasion」, I would have stopped wearing this dress that still exposed part of my skin. Even thinking about it was scary. A type of chill that was different from the cold that I had been feeling recently ran down my spine. Suddenly shivering, I picked up my pace and headed to my home, the Lancent household mansion.

As usual, the man I call my husband, Agedilus Von Lancent, came home late from the Royal Black Lotus Court, at a time when most children were about to fall asleep.

I had finished preparing the ingredients for the cheese fondue and was melting the cheese in some white wine. As I added garlic and nutmeg for seasoning, that man, enticed by the smell, came to the dining table without even taking off his robes. He narrowed his almond-shaped eyes ever so slightly.

「Welcome home, Edi. I’m done preparing dinner.」

「Ah, I’m home. Cheese fondue?」

「Yes. I prepared a lot of ingredients, so eat as much as you want ok?」

On the table, there was a pot for the boiled cheese. Beside it was bread and steamed vegetables, as well as sausages, all filling the plates to the brim. With this much prepared, even this man would eat as much as he liked, until he was completely stuffed. I was looking forward to the risotto I had saved for last too. Fufufu. As I thought about that, I couldn’t help but let out a giggle.

Watching me suddenly start giggling, he gave me a curious look as he sat down on his chair. 「Oops」I thought, as I stopped myself from giggling.

「Edi, not yet. Please at least take off your robes first. I hope you weren’t planning to eat with that on? 」

「It’s not like I’d really care even if it got dirty. Even if it did I could just wash it off with some water magic, so I wouldn’t be troubling you either. More than that, I’m starving. 」

He spoke just like how you would expect a child to. If I let myself get fooled by how cute he was being here, it would be my loss. Seeing someone who normally did care much about food prioritizing the food that I made, well, I guess, it did make me happy. Without a doubt. But, even so, I shouldn’t spoil him.

「That is not the problem here. Using magic to clean up everything is a bad habit of yours. 」

「Are you telling me to make you do everything from cleaning to the laundry?」

「Well, it’s not like I am asking you to do anything and everything either. There now, Edi. I’ll prepare the wine, so please go.」

I thought as I urged him to go. Although reluctantly, he nodded and took off his black robe as he walked out of the room. Seeing how fast he was moving, he was evidently really hungry. Quite a rare sight indeed. However, once he gets absorbed into his research, he would probably forget about both sleep and food, and would just be completely devoted to his research. I wondered if he even got a chance to eat the light meal I gave him for lunch.

What a hopeless person. I thought as I broke into a smile as I chose a wine that would go well with cheese fondue from the wine cellar. Neither I nor that man enjoyed alcohol that much, but drinking a bit was alright for a night as cold as this.

When he finally came back wearing a comfortable shirt and pants, he sat down at his regular seat. I followed suit after placing the water pitcher and wine on the table.

「We express gratitude to the blessings that we have received from the goddess up there.」

「Gratitude.」

Intertwining our fingers on the table, we sang our prayers to thank the goddess as we always did. Once we were done, we immediately took up our forks. Sure enough, he moved quickly. Although I did cool it down to a suitable temperature, the melted cheese was still quite hot. Yet, he thought nothing of it and just glazed ingredient after ingredient in cheese and gobbled everything up. Incidentally, his wine was depleting fast too. What on earth is going on? Watching him enjoy himself eating was one thing, but on the other hand, I was worried whether it was alright for him to eat so much at once.

He did not seem to be slowing down. Only when he had cleared up most of the ingredients and finished his wine, did he finally show signs of stopping. Before I could realize it, there wasn’t much boiled cheese left. When we were just about done, I got up from my chair.
