「It think it’s about time for the risotto. I’ll go take the rice.」

Eating rice covered in cheese mixed with spices. Just thinking about it was amazing. Rice is something close to the heart of any Japanese. Even if I had reincarnated, my soul hadn’t changed. Although to be precise, Risotto was from foreign cuisine, not so much Japanese cuisine. But we shouldn’t sweat the small details. Yes yes, if it were risotto, even I could eat some in my current state…… As I stood up, that man called out: 「Oi.」It seems that after having satiated his hunger, he had calmed down a bit.

「What might be wrong? Would you have liked pasta better?」

Although risotto was good too, I could see why pasta was enticing too. Although it would take some time to boil if I started now. As I told him that, a troubled expression appeared on his good looking feminine face, as he shook his head.

「That’s not it. What I’m trying to ask about is how much you ate.」

「… What is wrong with it?」

Although I was heading towards the kitchen, I turned around and sat back down on the chair and tilted my head slightly. With his eyebrows furrowed, he looked at me and pointed towards my plate with his pale slender finger.

「What I’m trying to ask is: Are you really fine with eating that little? You’re barely eating anything at all.」

Tch, he noticed.

Hearing his words, I clicked my tongue in my head, unladylike as it was. However, I did not let that show on the outside. I put on the false smile that I learned from my father for the first time in a while.

「I’m completely fine. I ate enough.」

「Three pieces of boiled vegetables is enough?」

……He was counting? I remember being genuinely surprised. Although it looked to me as if he was just eating silently, without thinking much about his surroundings,  he apparently was paying attention to what I was doing.

By making cheese fondue for dinner tonight, one could freely take any amount of ingredients that they wanted to from the big communal plate and dip it in the boiling cheese in the pot in the middle of the table. I thought that, by making cheese fondue where each person could choose the amount they ate at their own discretion, he would not notice even if I didn’t eat that much. That was why I chose to make cheese fondue. However, I guess I underestimated him.

He stared intently at me, fixing those eyes which glowed red like a sunrise on me. He was fiercely beautiful, his beauty so powerful that it would put even the night fairies to shame. Heglar was so cold that it would leave even veteran soldiers shaking and frozen, unable to move. He gave me a look as if to tell me that he wouldn’t allow me to try to evade the topic anymore. I finally relented and looked away. It wasn’t that I got scared. It just got too intense for me to continue.

He was right. As he said, I only ate one, two… If I were to borrow his words, I couldn’t bring myself to eat but about 3 pieces of boiled vegetables. The reason was, the moment I added the white wine to the cheese over the fire, the smell that was produced made me sick, and even slightly nauseous. I was surprised myself too. I had made cheese fondue a countless number of times before. But this was the first time something like this has happened. I had secretly thought that my flu had just finally fully set in was all.

But there was no way that I could tell him what I was really feeling. As my eyes wandered around, thinking of how I should answer him, that man let out a sigh. He must have done it one purpose, as it was an unusually deep sigh. Although annoyed as well, I subconsciously turned back to the man who’s mood suddenly worsened considerably. As if to tell me he was waiting for just that, he locked eyes with me.

「Tomorrow, we’re going to the White Lily Court.」

What an abrupt proposition……   The way he said it, it sounded as if it had already been decided beforehand. I finally blinked. White Lily Court, similar to the Black Lotus Court, was an institution that was under the direct discretion of the royal palace. However, the White Lily Court was vastly different from the Black Lotus Court. While the Black Lotus Court was an organization where magicians gathered, the White Lily Court was one where doctors gathered. Nonetheless, I hear that the two organizations worked closely together when it came to matters regarding medicinal herbs or healing magic. And if that was the case.

「Are you going on official business? Or could it be that Edi, do you not feel well……?」

「Are you stupid? From the flow of this conversation, why would you conclude that I was the one who needed to see the doctor? The one who needs a doctor, is you. 」

「Me?」

Why me? My confusion must have been written all over my face. He sighed again, this time even deeper than his previous one, as if to express how exasperated he was.

「Dissatisfied? No matter. I’m prepared to bring you even if I have to resort to dragging you there. I already made the necessary preparations with a highly skilled doctor. I didn’t even get a chance to eat my lunch because of that.」

He said that calmly. But I just couldn’t think of how to reply to him. I was at a loss of words.

If the Black Lotus Court was where the most elite of magicians assembled, then White Lily Court was where the most elite of doctors came together. There was no doubt that any doctor in the White Lily Court would be extremely busy. For this man to go through the trouble to find a「highly skilled」doctor among all those doctors, he must have gotten someone who was considerably capable. There was no way that someone as capable as that would be able to fit in such a sudden appointment, I thought. This man must have gone all the way to forcibly squeezed in an appointment for me in the doctor’s busy schedule.  I could imagine that he likely, no, he must have used his authority as Head Magician of the royal palace to do so.

「Um, I appreciate the thought, but you didn’t have to go to such lengths…… Seeing a doctor from the town would be sufficient. So I will just go myself sometime tomorrow……. 」

「It’s not that I don’t trust the doctors in the town, but I can’t possibly just casually walk around town like that, so I wouldn’t be able to accompany you. In that regard, only in the White Lily Court would I be able to accompany you without standing out. 」

「Accompany? Do you mean that you plan to go with me?」

「Yeah, I plan to.」

He tilted his head almost on purpose, as if to ask whether I had any problems with that arrangement. That was when he suddenly felt a sharp pain in his head. It wasn’t nothing like the slight headaches that he had been having recently. It appeared to be a headache that stemmed from emotional stress. I complained that he was a worry-wart or that he was overprotective, but I think even those words weren’t enough to describe the extent of his worrying. As I wondered who it was who caused this man to reach this state, I realized ー  it was no one else but me.

「Even if you say that, what about you work?」

As the head magician in the royal palace, it wouldn’t be possible for him to take time off work just because his wife was not feeling well. But he shut down my train of thought in a second.

「Just one day wouldn’t be that big a problem. Moreover, your health is much more important than my work.」

…I never expected this workaholic of a man to say something like that. It certainly surprised me, but even more than that, I was touched. Oh no, what do I do? Although it wasn’t the right time for it, I was filled with happiness. 「Dissatisfied? No matter. I’m prepared to bring you even if I have to resort to dragging you there. I already made the necessary preparations with a highly skilled doctor. I didn’t even get a chance to eat my lunch because of that.」
