「Look, don’t be so surprised, okay? We the people of the 『Six Scars』 might have been the ones to build this 『Sun Thousand』 Spirit Train, but strictly speaking it belongs to Queen Halloween. So if you want to go talk to her, then do just like you did last time and listen to everything she has to say. After all, in comparison to the preliminary Gift Games for the 2nd War for the Sun’s Authority, the rules for the further stages are bound to be slightly different from all the other usual ones.」
「Really? How so?」
「For example, in addition to 「Hosts」 and 「Players」, there will be one more…」
「A-Attack~~! Attack~~!!!」
「We’re under attack!」
「Lightning strike inbound~~! Everyone, hold on tight~~!!!」
In the middle of their conversation, the voices of two young and lively Spirits could be heard screaming warnings at the top of their lungs, which were immediately followed up by the deafening roar of thunder and the flashes of bright light that fell from the heavens above right on top of the 『Sun Thousand』. When Homura looked outside of the window, he saw that the storm clouds were chasing after them as if they didn’t want to allow their prey to escape then they had it right within their grasp as it gradually created a number of tornadoes and whirlpools followed by their gradual transformation into a bull-like form.
And thus, the 『Bull of Heaven』, now present in all of his terrifying glory, let our an ear-piercing roar as he conjured more lightning strikes all around it.
「G E E E E Y A A A A A A a a a a a a a a!!!!!!!!!!!!!!」
Sending forth shockwaves of air as it waved its hooves around, the Celestial Beast broke into a mad dash in order to keep up with the train. It was so gigantic and wide that it was impossible to measure it with just the naked aye alone. Horns of lightning grew on its head as it dashed through the clouds and approached the train with such force behind each of the steps of its enormous legs that it seemed like the sky itself might fall on their heads at any moment.
「…………..!」
Unable to bear the continuous impact of lightning and wind beating against the train’s exterior, Homura fell onto the ground pretty hard. But even though the rivers all around them were overflowing and the strikes of lightning were leaving craters in the ground, the Spirit Train itself continued to drive along its tracks unhindered by everything that was happening outside. Sure, it was shaking left and right, but that was all there was to it.
Since the Spirit Trains did not require electricity to function unlike the ones from the outer world, the only ways of putting them out of commission was destroy either the Spirit Train or its tracks, but considering that Homura did not see any tracks at all he had to wonder whether they were made invisible or not, or if the rain was running on the magical tracks that ran along the surface of the earth and water.
With another lighting strike and another tremor, he fell again and hit his head, but he didn’t have the luxury of complaining about that. If that was any normal train, then the foothold it travelled on would have to be stable at all times, but each time the lightning collided with it the 『Sun Thousand』 was shaking left and right, making Homura continuously blink in amazement. The tracks had to be magical. If not, then the fact that they were still able to keep going forward was nothing short of a miracle.
「I-It’s definitely amazing. We’re in the middle of such a terrible storm and yet here we are, still going as if it was nothing…」
「Fufufu, getting surprised by something so obvious is no good, you know? This baby has yet to show its true power, but in order for that to happen we have to safely reach the Ley Line, and once we get there, it will be smooth sailing all the way to the Minotaur’s Labyrinth!」
Even as he also fell over, Porol continued to boast about the new Spirit Train’s capabilities, but that was perfectly understandable. Every leader would be proud if the members of his Community managed to create a marvelous invention that even managed to withstand the attacks of something as powerful as a Celestial Beast. When he got up and corrected his posture, he looked as if her just remembered something, and so he called out to Homura:
「Go meet with the Queen while you still can. Knowing her and her whimsical nature, she probably sat in the special guest room since the departure and enjoyed the spectacle from the best seat possible!」
「Okay! Thanks for everything, man! I’ll be sure to repay you in some way as soon as I’ll get the chance!」
「No need to! I still have my fair share of debts to settle with Izayoi, and if you are his relatives that means you are our friends by default, so just relax and don’t sweat the small stuff.!」
Porol saw Homura off with a friendly wave of his hand. Yeah, if someone like him lend one of their greatest inventions to a brat like that, it really showed that he was a kind-hearted person, or perhaps that was one of his ways of settling the debts he owed to Izayoi. Be that as it may, if nothing else, doing that allowed them to gain that much more time.
While holding onto the handrail, Homura proceeded to go to the next wagon of the 『Sun Thousand』. But unbeknownst to both him and Porol, who mistakenly allowed themselves to relax and let their guards down, yet another threat was heading towards them from a place that they have least expected it.
