But given all of his actions and conduct which was more than suspicious, he always had a hunch at the back of his head that he must have been working on something really important.

But, well, unfortunately for him, for the current moment, the reproduction of Star Particle Bodies is all but impossible, because they weren’t artificial, man-made creations, but rather the natural ones. He had no idea what kind of otherworldly creature they were extracted from, but at the very least that knowledge solidified his belief that creating new ones from scratch was absolutely out of the question, which allowed him to focus his own efforts into the other method of their possible mass production, the parasitic multiplication which was used to create 『The Origins』. Because of that he understood that Star Particle Bodies could bundle together into Astral Filaments that could attach themselves to the tissue of whatever they came into contact with across nanometers in order to collect the information of their host’s genome and synchronize themselves with their genetic information so that each of the created filaments could unravel itself one by one to incorporate themselves into the cells, which allowed them to multiply and divide themselves further within the host’s body. That was the extent of Homura’s understanding of the parasitic multiplication process for the time being, as well as the fact that even though the current parasitically multiplying Star Particle Bodies depended heavily on the information obtained from the host’s genome, they ultimately end up altered from their default state, but even so recycyling them so that they could be used for the purpose of medical treatment even after they have already been extracted once should still be theoretically possible.

As far as the practical tests of that theory were concerned – this is totally confidential, by the way, so make sure not to tell anyone about it – Star Particle Bodies were administered to the livestock cultivated at Hoei Private Academy’s Dietary Education Committee and their progress was constantly monitored, but all of that came to a screeching halt one all of them have been squashed and eaten by the Minotaur, and Homura’s stomach began to hurt at the thought of any sensitive information getting leaked from the animal corpses. If something like tha ended up happening for real, then the Section Chief Carla would be furious and directed her anger towards him.

(Okay now, this is getting too painful to think about, so let’s go back to thinking about something else!)

The filaments formed by the Star Particle Bodies. They were both the foundation and the true form of the Nanomachine Unit 3S. Everything Company was advertising them as something man-made, but that was a complete and utter lie.

Nanomachine Units 3S. These Star Particle Bodies, the ones that were even capable of perpetual motion were natural creations, there was no doubt about that. Maybe Homura’s father discovered some creatures, or perhaps plants containing those Astral Filaments and managed to successfully extract them and incorporate them into the Star Particle Bodies? Whatever the case may be, his guardian also misunderstood them as something man-made. It was an undeniable proof that the life forms capable of existing simply by altering environmental information really do exist in this world.

If they were to be discovered that would  certainly be great, however, if the knowledge that Star Particle Bodies were connected to living creatures became public, then that would give rise to another problem that would have to be dealt with: that the existing Astral Filaments, 『The Origins』, were limited in number, which was the number one reason why Homura’s father couldn’t begin their mass production, because the population of the life forms which were the core of the filaments were scarce and few, and if there was something that Homura’s father detested more than anything else, it was creating something at the cost of breaking the natural balance of the world. With Homura’s method of parasitic multiplication, the only specimens that could be extracted were the altered ones influenced by the host’s genome information. For that reason, rather than being unable to display their full potential, the altered Star Particle Bodies were imperfect even with their perpetual motion.

Also, the energy generated by the alteration of the environmental information was presumed to occur most frequently with the circulation in the blood vessels, and the force exerted by the specific Star Particle Bodies varied depending on the corresponding base sequence, a matter which has been highly classified.

But that was irrelevant now. Based on all the information listed above, there were two things that Homura had to take into consideration, number one being the identity of the one who unleashed Typhoon Nr.24, 『The Bull of Heaven』 upon the world. If that was really a monster born out of Star Particle Bodies, then it would mean that somewhere out there, there was someone whose speed of research far exceeded Homura’s, in which case, his first guardian would have to be the primary suspect.

(………………..)

But… was that really possible?

Homura’s understanding of the roots of Star Particle Bodies came from the knowledge granted to him by his Gift, 『Proto Idea』. When he looked at them through the particle microscope for the first time he was immediately able to recognize that they weren’t man-made, and that made him choose the parasitic multiplication as the primary method of attempted mass-production. In stark contrast to him, that researcher believed that they were man-made this entire time without ever doubting it for even a second. That is what Homura firmly believed, even though his memory regarding that fact might have been a little hazy.

But if that was indeed the case, then it would have to mean that the answer lied elsewhere.

(Could it be… that the Bull of Heaven is actually The Origin?)

His heart rate sped up simply from considering such a possibility.

Information-based life form capable of capable of alterating the environmental information that keeps on living by absorbing energy from its surroundings. If that was 『The Bull of Heaven’s』 true nature…

(Then that would give me plenty of reasons to fight it.)

If it really was something born from the Star Particle Bodies, then it was his responsibility to face it. He was still anxious about the deaths of his parents or the unknown movements of his first guardian, but he shouldn’t allow those things to distract achieving his original goal.

He began to research Star Particle Bodies because he believed that their development could be beneficial to the future of Canaria Family Home, and securing a safe and prosperous enviorment for everyone who enrolled there thanks to them having such a world-famous sponsor. It had nothing to do with the sweet nothings that Queen Halloween whispered to him when they met 3 days ago. Homura had a home he had to return to and a family he must protect at all costs. That is why he had to go back to his own world as soon as possible. For now, Suzuka, Ayato and him were gone for three days straight without contacting anyone whatsoever, so everyone must be getting worried sick. Thankfully it was Golden Week in Japan now, so even a few days of absence could be easily explained with a little bit of ingenuity. But if they happened to disappear at any other date, they would certainly be in a whole lot of trouble.

(No, I guess our disappearance is still going to be a big problem, even though it is Golden week. If it goes on any longer, then in the worst-case scenario the police might end up getting involved with the orphanage, right? Ah well, if Big Bro Iza is still back there, then I guess he will manage to feed them some kind of believable excuse. He’s always been good at those kinds of things.)

As long as it was him, then he could handle literally anything that life tried to throw at him. That, or he will just deceive the cops and anyone who might end up getting suspicious in some overly flashy, dramatic manner.

Picturing such an over-the-top scenario in his mind, Homura couldn’t help it but to laugh a little bit.

「….senpai? Are you even listening to me? Homura-senpai!」

Ayato kept poking Homura’s cheek with her finger, but she was doing so for a few minutes without receiving any kind of response from him, she was starting to get increasingly more worried. Until finally…

「….Ah? Oh, I’m sorry, but I wasn’t listening at all, did you say something?」

「No, nothing at all!」

For some inexplicable reason, Ayato got angry at him and pouted. Looks like he spend so much time thinking that he really failed to notice anything that was happening around him. Standing up from the bed and stretching his back, Homura bowed down to and apologized to Ayato.
