But Izayoi and the others knew that this information was only 50% true.

The pathogens of the virus were also released from the island of Crete in the Republic of Greece where the toxic, smallpox-resembling particles mixed up with the storm clouds in order to spread their reach and attack the rest of Europe. It was an extremely despicable maneuver that caused that caused the countries of Western Europe to suffer severe damages from both an economic and agricultural standpoint. The stock markets plummeted, but even the increase in the prices of produce such as wheat and flour was still comparatively meager compared to the fact that brand with over a hundred years of history to them were forced to temporarily suspend any and all of their business activities across the span of mere two months, causing the Western European market to almost completely collapse.

It was at that moment that Everything Company introduced their newest product, The Star Particle Bodies. For Europe, which was on the verge of ruin and in a desperate need of a cure, it was truly like a Godsend.

「It would be more appropriate to put it like that: island of Crete was the birthplace of the pathogenic bacteria emitted by 『The Bull of Heaven』, while the Amazon must have been the site where the incident with the viral outbreak initially took place, so this forest as the best place to hide the facility responsible for researching it.」

「But if you were to conduct Star Particle Bodies experiments in this kind of hellish heat, wouldn’t they just end up going crazy and doing something utterly unpredictable?」

Pritt smiled bitterly, wiping away the sweat that gathered on her neck and collarbone.

「Of course, but the same can be said about those who released that virus in the first place. I have no doubts that whoever that was, they must have been insane. That is the only explanation I can think of for using human technology to create an abomination such as 『The Bull of Heaven』. But I guess that is why we have you now, Your Excellency Mr. Head of Accounting Department.」

「Okay, alright, stop it right there, and this instant. Can you drop that entire 「Your Excellency Mr. Head of Accounting Department」 bit already? Seriously, every time I hear it makes my skin crawl.」

「What are you saying now? You only had this position for two months, but you managed to turn our company’s rough mess of an accounting situation back on its feet, so it would be wrong to not properly address you with gratitude and respect as Your Excellency Mr. Head of Accounting Department.」

Pritt smiled and gave a thumbs up while fanning her chest with her other hand. She must have been feeling incredibly hot as well, which was not strange since she came into a literal jungle while wearing her business suit, making Izayoi wonder if she was that diligent in her work, or was she secretly a huge airhead, but to give her some creditit has only been two and a half months since he met and worked with her as an aftereffect of him gradually getting more and more involved with Tokuteru Mikado’s Private Security Service since he couldn’t find another way back to Little Garden.

The principle of 「He who does not work does not get to eat」 is a universal concept regardless of the region of the world you are in.

Age-wise, he could no longer pass for being a student because while he was physically nineteen, according to the time that passed in the Outer World he was already twenty-one, so if he lived in the orphanage at that age without obtaining even a part-time job and just continued to live his life of self-indulgence, he would lose the respect of the kids who lived there with him before he ended up in a different world.

That is why he has decided to become a secret agent working for the company operated by 『Twelve Devas』, because such a job was bound to satisfy his need to constantly be on the move as well as his natural curiosity. So he accepted his new position with high expectations… only to have them brutally crashed against the ground and be plagued by nothing but constant headaches from the moment he stepped through the door of their HQ. The organizational chaos was through the roof and the contracts were scattered all throughout the lobby along with the reports written in every language of the world complaints of inaccurate damage compensations, receipts of unknown purpose and so on and so forth.

Taking all of that into consideration, he could clearly say that any of the feelings of enthusiasm he might have had for his new job had completely disappeared after showing him a big, fat middle finger. But although anyone who met him could easily say that Izayoi was always giving off the impression of being a crude and rude person, he also had a surprisingly diligent side to him. His innate diligence was telling him that if he was to not receive a proper compensation for the work he would be doing, even he would be greatly troubled by it.

「While we are on the subject, why don’t you have any accountant among your ranks?」

「Well, we were putting up offers of employment in the accounting department before, but unfortunately we cannot allow ourselves to hire just anyone off the street due to the sensible nature of our work that has to be kept from the general public. And although the many convenient inventions of this modern era make the life significantly easier, which makes me very happy, there is one thing that did not change: travelling becomes rather difficult when one is tight on money. After all, we the Gods of War tasked with protecting Humanity, not the Gods of Wealth. But now that we have obtained a kind and diligent Head of Accounting Department who gathered and fixed all of our company’s financial data, we even managed to bring President Mikado’s embezzelments and defraudations to light, and for that I have to thank you from the bottom of my heart, although that bit about Tokuteru’s money malversations was really unexpected.」

Pritt continued to nod her head in gratitude.

「Well, when you put it that way, then I guess it really cannot be helped. Bishamonten might also be considered as a God of Wealth, but dumping all of that unfair work on someone like Lil’ Uesugi would have been too cruel of a demand.」

「Unfortunate, but that’s just how it is. That girl might be a serious, hard-working genius when it comes to the battlefield, but if she could also help with stationary work like that, then we all could have relaxed just a bit more.」

「I couldn’t agree more. When I was told that we were going to be sent to Brazil on a job for Everything Company, I was really looking forward to it, but I never expected we’re going to be sent to the middle of the Amazon forest. Ahh, I really wanted to see the carnival in Rio with my own eyes!」

「Hey now, don’t go whining about the work ow just because it didn’t turn out to be what you expected it to be. The client asked for you by name, and we also got a handsome referral fee, so be more compromising here.」

While they continued to whine about the hardships of their work, the two of them continued to advance through the walls of leaves, branches and ivy, but the path they were walking on, or the thing that might have been called a path if one were to stretch the facts for a good bit, ended right there. Beyond the point they have arrived at was nothing but unexplored land. Even though they were not in any immediate danger, they had to advance both carefully and quickly if they didn’t want the day to turn into night on them. When they settled their luggage down to prepare themselves more thoroughly, Izayoi’s phone suddenly rang out with a simple beeping sound. Could it be that the caller estimated that the entrance to the forest proper would be the last place where the electromagnetic waves required for making calls would barely reach? Because if so, then that was really a dick move from him. With an unpleasant feeling welling up in his stomach, Izayoi reluctantly picked up the phone from his pocket, and when he saw who the caller was, he made a face as if he just saw something utterly disgusting. Now he didn’t want to answer it all the more, but unfortunately he had no choice in the matter, since the caller really was the client.
