That something. . . is the will to keep on living, even in the most dire of circumstances. Even if human bodies stop functioning properly, as long as they have the will to go on and not give up, they will be able to temporarily surpass their own limits, allowing them to keep on living even if all would bode against it, even if it would only be for a short while.

「Then. . . how much time did you get to spend together? Because you must have spend at least some of it together, right? If it was otherwise, then you would not have called her your best friend.」

「Well, a little. I guess we did manage to spend about ten days with her, half of which were spent on traveling around the world again.」

Izayoi was actually getting amazed at how easy it was for the Earth’s Mother Goddess to be asking such private questions of delicate nature without any kind of restraint.

「And? What can you tell me about that friend of hers? What kind of person was she?」

「Heh, that is actually something that I can explain with using only a single sentence: that bastard was the number one crybaby in the entire goddamn world.」

Those were two rather derogatory names, but strangely enough, it did not look like Izayoi meant anything bad when he described that girl with them. This time it was Pritt’s turn to be amazed.

「Hou hou? So even though she was a 『bastard』 and a 『crybaby』, you would still call her 『the number one crybaby in the entire goddamn world』?」

「Yeah, because that was honestly how I felt about her, a crybaby so extraordinaire that she would cry immediately after seeing something or getting attached to it. You know how it is said that about 10% of human lives is spent only on crying? Well in her case that percentage must have been way higher, because she would literally cry at every. Single. Thing she encountered. She cried because 『She thought that the starry sky she saw for the first time in her life was so beautiful』, because 『The sunset that she saw for the first time in her life was beautiful』and last but not least, because 『The sunrise that she saw for the first time in her life was also beautiful』.Whenever she would hit me with one of those, I would always give her the same, rather boorish now that I think about it, reply of 『Would you just stop crying over ever little thing already?!』. Pretty bratty for someone who claimed to have known everything there was to know about the world, huh?」

Izayoi laughed with the same 『Yahaha!!!』 laughter as before, but this time it was a cheerful kind of laughter from the bottom of his heart, totally unlike the cold, emotionless one he did when he was talking about his visit to the Black Albino breeding facility. That told Pritt the most important thing that she needed to know: that this one friend he made that day was the sole reason why Izayoi did not fall apart after being thrown in the middle of such a grim incident. It probably will not even be a stretch to say that this girl might have been his only salvation that saved him from drowning in the sea of sorrow on that day.

And to think that it all started with something as painfully simple as a wish of an impudent kid who wanted to see 『The worst war in the world』 and to and trek along the fields of battle, places where people could only hate, hurt and kill each other over the pettiest of reasons. And the girl he managed to find at the end of all that. . . even though her entire life must have been nothing but one big suffering in the deepest parts of hell on earth she had no hopes of escaping from, she still managed to retain enough of her innocence and humanity to be able to call this world 『Beautiful』 with tears running down her face when she saw if for how it truly was for the very first time. In conclusion, all of the travelling around the world that Izayoi must have been exactly for that one moment, its results reflected in the flood of tears of genuine happiness that streamed down that girl’s cheeks like a gentle flood at that moment.

「After I heard her say those words, I finally decided how I will live my life and how I will face the world around me. I decided that if those fists of mine are meant to rend the earth around me, if my anger is strong enough to turn cities into crumbling piles of rubble and dust and if the world itself might end up losing its current, beautiful form because of my inability to control my own emotions, then I do not mind spending the rest of this life of mine in idleness.」

It was just like Baron la Croix, 『The Grim Reaper』 told him during their battle in the boundary between life and death before he even came to Little Garden for the first time. If he intended to use this power of his to destroy the world, then it would be better for him to be buried in the abyss of history, where he could simply rot away along with it without causing harm to anyone. But luckily for him, the tears that girl cried on that day became the restraint that needed to be put on his immense power after he willingly chose to discard them himself in that one moment where he was overcome with righteous indignation.

「After she passed away, I made sure to go on a rampage in the Outer World only once more. It was something that I needed to do in order to deal with the negative emotions that were welling up inside of me. If I did not do that, I might have lost control over myself and became a real demon, not just the figurative one who lusted for knowledge.」

「And that is when you went down the 『Total Annihilation』 route?」

「That is right. Of course, Canaria was trying to dissuade me from that idea. She was telling me things like 『Even if you do kill them all now, nothing will change. Wars, arguments, clashes of ideologies and nightmares like this one will never end as long as people remain the same as they are now.』. I knew that she was right and that it would ultimately be pointless, but at that point I did not care about that. All I wanted to do was to simply find everyone who was involved with that facility and make them pay for what they did, every last one of them with no exceptions, and I did just that, only to realize that Canaria’s words have been truly prophetic, because she was ultimately right. It changed nothing. It improved nothing. But at the very least it made me feel a lot better. That is also why Parashurama’s current host has upset me so much.

「. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .」

Even if you do kill them all now, nothing will change.』A cruel truth, but a truth nonetheless. Even more cruel when you realize that the humanity of the 21st century did not waged wars and fought amongst themselves for no reason. And wars that are fought for geopolitical, religious, economical or ideological reasons will never come to a true end without facing and solving the root cause of their conflicts.

But since these conflicts always originate from something intangible, from a cause or an idea that does not directly involve humans, then even if those human being end up getting killed in the conflict, the real monster that is the source of the conflict will not truly disappear and will always come back no matter how many lives are lost.

And while humans themselves might not realize that yet, their worst enemies have always been emerging, are emerging and will continue to emerge from those four concepts: geopolitics, religion, economy and ideologies. But at the same time, it remains a fact that every time these enemies showed up, the history of humankind was always there to overcome them.

『Avatara』, those who called themselves the Community of Saviors. . . the fact that the incarnation of the Sixth Avatar chose a victim of the human trafficking organization that Izayoi supposedly thwarted in the past as its current host was definitely not a coincidence.
