Nanana’s Buried Treasure Volume 3 Prologue

「Why did you do such a thing?!」

In the school building that was painted by the twilight, aimed at the back of the male student who walked through the empty hallway, the boy with glasses raised his shouting voice.

The third-year who stopped and turned around laughed scornfully at the second year who was always just unreliable and trembling with fear.

「There isn’t really a reason. I just used a not particularly helpful guy for my own purposes.」

Enraged by these insolent words the boy with the glasses seized the man.

「Such a thing should not be forgiven!」

Even when he was grabbed by his collar, that man returned the question in an exceedingly calm manner.

「I need to be forgiven by who?」

By this one thing the man said, the boy with glasses was at loss for words. The man went on.

「By the teacher? The adults? God? Or by that earth-bound spirit? Or perhaps by Kasumi?」

「…」

「This contest is extremely simple. The winner takes it all. No clarified rules exist. Can you obtain the treasure, or can’t you? It all just comes down to that. You are free to take part, and also free to quit. There is only one thing that’s demanded by this game, and that is the resolve to be able to throw away everything in order to fulfill your own wishes. 」

The words of the man might be true.

However, in spite of that, the previous “Adventure Club” had been formed. Everyone combined their abilities, attempted to clear the ruins, obtained the treasure and then everyone was overjoyed.

That sight remained strongly in the boy’s heart.

But that was also in the past. While taking all their various expectations, the connections of the gathered club members, who had lost their central pillar by the turning point called graduation, started to fall apart at that moment. When the man standing in front of him became the club president, this breaking apart was only spurred on.

And since the incident the other day, it had finally become just the boy and the man, the two of them.

「Hey, four-eyes. For what reason are you looking for Nanana Collection?」

「T-that’s…..」

At the man’s question, the boy looked down and couldn’t answer at all. The man brushed off the boy’s hand.

「That is your true nature. If you just want to play at getting along well with each other, then you should just hurry up and quit, just like the others. Though, even if you don’t quit, I will.」

The man turned his back to the boy, who was wide-eyed in surprise, and finally spit on the ground as though he was bored.

「In the end, from the point where Kasumi left, this club hasn’t held any sort of value. I wasn’t expecting anything, but even for me this was a complete waste of time.」

Like that, he crossed the hallway and disappeared. The boy could only watch his back.

In the hallway, where no one was around, in the heart of the boy with the glasses, who was left behind alone, only the frustration that his own feelings had not at all been crushed by the man and resentment at his own incompetence.

Suddenly the boy directed his eyes outside the window, where the setting sun shone its lonely light. As if he was hoping for some sort of salvation, he muttered the words 「Konjou-senpai……..」

But the sun also quickly sunk into the ocean, and the boy ended up standing still and alone in the dark hallway.

One mere month after the female student who was its founder graduated, Nanae Island’s Third Private Highschool’s “Adventure club” closed its curtains.
