  As long as people are connected, new connections will arise from the old ones. Like a plant growing and spreading its branches and leaves,Sansa’s connections are spreading wider. Now it’s about to spread overseas. She arranged a meeting with Rou through Japan’s underworld. It will be a big step for Sansa who has an ambition to create an organization of her own, to meet a big shot executive like Rou.

  Sansa’s philosophy was effective even here in this meeting with Rou. She could feel that Rou was developing interest in her within a few seconds after the meeting had started. Sansa was satisfied with the result but there was something that had been bothering her. There was a box with iron bars at the corner of the room. It was around a meter square in the area and a young lady was imprisoned inside. It was a beautiful lady but she had a leash around her neck with chains attached with it. On top of that her face, arms, and legs ( the parts of her which weren’t covered by her tattered clothes) had scars and bruises on them, it looked really painful. She looks like she is in pain but there is life in her eyes. She was staring at us with them intensely.

  I see, so this kind of thing is what Rou’s interested in. She felt like she was going to puke on  the inside but she didn’t show her emotions. Even if he is scum who takes pleasure in torturing women, he’s still an adult with power. He is an important connection that she needs to fulfil her ambition. 

  She looked away from the despicable sight and focused on what she needed to do. She was given a chair to sit and was offered food and liquor. Conversation with Rou turned livelier as time passed and Rou drank more. According to Sansa’s experience it was going pretty well. After the conversation had ended, Sansa looked at the cage. She didn’t have a reason to do so but she became a bit curious. Even though she glanced towards the cage without much of a reason she widened her eyes in awe. There was a young woman inside that cage a while ago but now there is a white beast laying on its belly instead of the woman. It had silver white fur, it’s probably a fox. But the interesting thing is that its tails that’s spread like a fan on the floor isn’t just one. She rubbed her eyes reflexively and looked at it again. But nothing had changed, the white fox was still there. She couldn’t believe what she was seeing, she felt like she had seen some kind of a magic trick. 

 ｢It seems like you’ve noticed it, Sansa. ｣

  Rou grinned boldly after looking at Sansa’s reactions. 

 ｢What is this? ｣

 ｢What you see over there is a Hakuko (White Fox), it’s a type of a yokai. ｣

 ｢A yokai? You jest. ｣

  Sansa doesn’t believe in occult stuff like that at all. 

 ｢I have enough belief to worship and revere the spirits of my ancestors but I didn’t believe in yokai to be honest, until I saw that thing. It seems like things like that certainly exist in this world. ｣

  While listening to Rou, she looked at the creature inside the cage. 

 ｢Are you keeping it as a pet? ｣

 ｢No, I’m torturing it ｣

 ｢Torturing? ｣

  Sansa inquired and Rou started talking with liquor in his hand. 

 ｢It’s a tale from long time ago. There was an era in which other countries invaded this land. Around that time sea routes here were under the pirates control and they kept raiding and plundering. Eventually the pirates were caught and their severed heads were displayed, but the majority of the treasure they stole was never found. Thus, there are still rumors of the treasure being hidden somewhere in this land. ｣

  It’s like a manga plot, Sansa thought to herself. But obviously that isn’t what she said, she said something totally different. 

 ｢It’s a wonderful story full of dreams. ｣

 ｢A couple of hundred years have passed and this place has turned into one of the largest cities in Asia but there isn’t even a trace of that treasure anywhere. In short, it was just a fairy tale…..At least that was what I thought. And then there were reports of a sighting of a weird woman in my turf. To our surprise it was reported that the woman had the ability to transform into a fox. I tried capturing her out of curiosity but she escaped us every time. My underlings started making a fuss that it might be a yokai. So, in order to try something new we hired a conjurer who knew yokai well. I didn’t expect much to happen but the conjurer gave us the result I wanted. My underlings along with the conjurer followed the yokai and found its den. And then the woman got caught by the conjurer, that’s it in the cage. ｣

  Rou pointed at the fox laying all tired inside the cage and continued his story.

 ｢I became curious about that fox and made my underlings go through various texts in order to figure out what that fox is. I found a line in one of those texts that the pirate had a white fox accompanying him. ｣

 ｢Which means that…｣

 ｢It seems like that white fox is the guardian of the treasure and its guarding the pirate’s treasure even to this day. ｣

  Rou was talking eloquently about his findings but to Sansa it all seemed like a dubious tale. But if as Rou has told her then it might be a reliable tale.

 ｢So, were you able to find the treasure? ｣

 ｢Unfortunately we haven’t found it yet. And that’s why I am here taking plenty of time to torture it. It’ll eventually give up and start talking. ｣

  Something in his words caught Sansa’s attention.

 ｢You mean, that white fox can speak? Like a human being? ｣

 ｢Yeah, it can speak our language and that’s why it could fool people after shapeshifting into a human. If you are curious about it then you can try talking to the fox, it might tell you something. ｣

  Sansa approached the cage after being told by Rou to try. It seems like the white fox noticed Sansa’s presence and it looked at her.

 ｢Hey fox, are you hungry? ｣

  Sansa extended her left hand towards the food on the table and grabbed chicken from the table. She started showing it to the white fox.  The fox acted indifferent to it but its eyes were following that piece of chicken. It’s being tortured by Rou so Sansa assumed that it hadn’t been fed for a while. Sansa locked her eyes on the white fox and approached it slowly. Slowly she took her left hand towards the cage. In front of the cage, between the bars and at last she took her hand inside the cage extending her arm and then in front of the fox’s eyes…..

  Bite

  Suddenly it bit Sansa’s left hand with its sharp fangs.

 ｢Does it taste good?｣

  Sansa inquired, her left hand didn’t go into its mouth and was outside the cage. But it wasn’t just that. Her right hand was petting the fox’s head while it ate the chicken. Rou applauded her performance.

  The white fox glared at Sansa and swallowed the chicken.

 ｢What’s all this, girl? ｣

  Sansa got startled for an instance by the words that came out of fox’s mouth but she immediately grinned.

 ｢It’s nothing much, I like animals so I decided to pet you. ｣

 ｢You are an absurd woman. ｣

  Sansa was amazed by the fact that the white fox really spoke but it didn’t stop her from inquiring.

 ｢So, you can speak Japanese?｣

  It was definitely Japanese that came out of the fox’s mouth.

 ｢Types of human languages doesn’t concern me. ｣

  I can’t understand why it’s the case but it seems like the fox can speak any language. Nevertheless, it seems like the fox is a real monster. After talking with the white fox, Sansa recalled the conversation she had with Rou a couple of moments ago. Pirate’s treasure, I thought it was a stupid fairy tale but it seems like it might have some credibility. Hmmm. Pirate’s treasure. I see. Her heart started beating with excitement but then she immediately dialed it back. Oi, oi, I’m acting like fat boobs back in the casino. It’s a stupid fairy tale. Sansa told that to herself and pushed the thought out of her head. She then got away from the cage.

 ｢My interest in you has increased further, Sansa. ｣

  She returned to her seat and Rou praised Sansa without any flattery and Sansa was content with his reaction.
