「Oi, Nanana. What are we going to do?」
「I think we should keep running.」
「And then what?」
「I’ll think of that while running. 」
And immediately Sansa’s karate chop fell on my head.
「You are an idiot! Didn’t you know that this was going to happen!? Isn’t that the reason you bought the metal bat!?」
「Yeah, that’s why I bought it but I didn’t think Ketekete would be THAT big.」
「Your thought process is amazing. You thought you could go against a fox god with a metal bat. Don’t you have anything else?」
「Yeah, I didn’t have a plan B. 」
「You are an idiot, aren’t you! An extremely stupid idiot! Idiot, idiot! 」
「Don’t call me an idiot! Don’t say it while running! 」
「Shit.」
Sansa took something out of her pocket and that something surprised me.
「Sansa-san, is that thing what we refer to as a gun?」
「I had kept it in case something bad happened. 」
「That’s against the guns and firearms law.」
「This isn’t Japan so, it’s alright!」
「Really?」
「Shut up! It’s alright if nobody finds out!」
Sansa kept running and looked back and pulled the trigger. But nothing happened.
「Eh, what? 」
「It’s probably that thing, Sansa! The safety! I’ve seen it in a movie!」
Sansa desperately started touching the gun after she heard me scream.
「Seems like you are having difficulty using that, villain. I thought this was the scenario where you use that and you get a clean hit!」
「Shut the hell up! I’ve never used a gun before! 」
But even so, she was done readying the gun. She turned her body back and shot again. I could hear two gunshots. I don’t know if the bullets hit Ketekete or not but he disappeared out of our sight and was no longer chasing us. Seems like he took distance and is hiding behind something. We hid too and looked around, we could see his white fur moving behind rocks from time to time.It was moving here and there like a ghost. Seems like he was waiting for the chance to strike. But that’s fine for us, we can finally breathe in peace.
「Oi, Nanana. I have a plan, so I need you to be the bait. 」
Sansa who was sitting next to me and breathing heavily spoke up.
「Did you come up with something?」
「Yeah, there’s no other way. 」
I looked into Sansa’s serious eyes and nodded.
「What should I do?」
「I’ll give you the signal and you go distract that shapeshifting fox. 」
「Roger that, I’ll leave the rest to you.」
Sansa hid behind the rocks and started moving away from me while I nodded. She moved cautiously so as not to get noticed by Ketekete and when she was done moving she waved her hands at me. I saw that and jumped out from behind the rock at once and held the metal bat.
「Oi. Hey there, ketekete! It’s one on one with me now! Come at me!」
And immediately he appeared from behind the rock and charged at me with all his might.
「Hyaaaaa!」
I hastily jumped and dodged but the metal bat fell from my hands.
I looked back and saw Ketekete bending towards me while running, burrowing through the boulder. He was charging towards me again. You can’t be serious, how do you expect me to fight something like that head on?
「Setting that aside for now, where is Sansa? Where did Sansa go?」
I looked around and saw Sansa’s back running towards the entrance with all her might.
「Wait, sansa. Where are you going?」
I shouted at Sansa, she kept running and turned her head towards me.
「Oi, Nanana! Distract him till I escape through the entrance.」
That was when I understood it all.
「Stop there! Heeey! Is that like I am facing Ketekete just so that you can escape!? Oi! Hey! Don’t run faster now! Don’t start dashing with all your strength! Damn you Sansa, you betrayed me!」
My screams echoed in vain as Sansa kept going farther away. But juxtaposed to Sansa, Ketekete kept coming closer. So, I started running as fast as I could.
「Damn it! Sansa, you idiot. If I return alive I’m going to complain to Koma about this!」
I kept running without thinking. I ran deeper and deeper into the pathway.
「Hm? What’s that light?」
Before long I saw a peculiarly bright light ahead in the pathway that had become narrow. I thought it might lead to an exit so I ran towards it. And the moment I was out of the passage I started to doubt what I was seeing.
「Is this a treasure room?」
All I could see around me was treasure. Gold, silver, and various treasures. Treasure boxes, ornate sculptures, and furnishings were tightly packed into that one room. It was literally a treasure room. Among all those treasures, what caught my eye was a sword that was on the pedestal in the back of the room.
It was a fine sword in its scabbard. Its scabbard was well decorated and its handle was finely made. It had a long string that was tied to the corner of the handle and everything else about it was beautiful. I instinctively reached out towards the sword and held it in my hand.
「I didn’t expect you to run this far. 」
I looked back and saw Keteke standing up at the entrance of the treasure room, it had completely blocked my escape route.
「Return that sword to its original position, Nananana. 」
Ketekete saw that I was holding the sword, it tried to intimidate me by growling. But I felt something was off. It seemed like Teketeke wasn’t telling me something important so I wouldn’t touch it. I kinda felt like it was afraid of something. So, I pointed the sword towards Ketekete to see if I was right. Ketekete gave a shiver.
「…I see.」
My lips got lifted up and before I knew it, I had a grin on my face.
「Ha.」
I took the sword out of scabbard energetically.
Shiver
「Ya.」
I lifted the sword up.
Shiver
「Howaaa achoo.」
I swung the sword.
Shiver Shiver
I was sure that Ketekete was scared of it after witnessing its hilarious reactions.
「I don’t know what this sword is but I assume it is your weakness! Get ready! 」
I lifted up the sword.
「Haaaa!」
And I charged towards Ketekete.
Slap
And then I got swept away by one of Ketekete’s tails. I rolled onto the pile of gold coins on the floor and I crouched.
「Ouh, that hurts a lot…..」
Ketekete looked at me and sneered.
「You are a simpleton as always, a naive brat. 」
「Then don’t react like that! I misunderstood you because you did that! 」
But all Ketekete did was sneer. He showed no sign of charging towards me while I still had the sword tightly gripped in my hand. It was cautiously keeping a distance from me as if it was afraid of something. This sword has something but I don’t know what it is. But the equilibrium between us didn’t last long. Ketekete slowly got closer to me and it barked loudly.
「It’s the end for you, Nanana. 」
Ketekete put all its might into all its four legs.
「Gugyaaaaa! 」
But at the moment that Ketekete roared, he reflexively looked back. I followed its gaze. Naturally a smile came on my face.
「Seems like you are in quite a bit of trouble, Nanana. 」
「Sansaa.」
Sansa, who I thought had escaped previously, was the one standing behind Ketekete. On top of that Sansa was holding the black stakes that he had taken out at the entrance of the cave. One of them was stuck in Ketekete’s back.
「I had a hunch about it, it seems like these stakes can inflict damage on you. 」
「Damn youuuu!」
Ketekete turned back and swung its claws but its movements were slower than before. Sansa wasn’t someone to overlook a chance like that. She took the perfect distance from Ketekete. Not too far, not too close and he threw the stakes like throwing a spear. Everytime Ketekete got stabbed by the stakes he roared in agony. Third, fourth, and then the fight stake impaled Ketekete and finally, its large body fell on the ground.
「C.. curse you. 」
This is my chance. I dashed and got closer to Ketekete and I tightened my grip.
「Ketekete, here I goooo!」
Gu…..
I could feel that I had stabbed something but…..
「What?」
It didn’t go deep as I had imagined it would and it seemed like the sword was being pushed back by Ketekete’s white fur. I hastily stepped back and swung my sword horizontally. But…..
Slash
「Eeeeh.」
All it did was cut a few white hairs.
