 「Oi. Hurry up, Nanana!」

Sansa held the black stake to restrict Ketekete and shouted at me who was having trouble with the sword.

 「Sansa, what should I do?」

 「Huh?」

 「This sword can’t cut at all.」

I lifted up the sword and Sansa’s face started turning red.

「Stop messing around! Isn’t that the sword that was kept at the back of this room!」

 「Yeah, but…..」

「So, why can’t it cut anything! Don’t keep that piece of trash in such an important place then! 」

「Don’t shout at me! I wasn’t the one who put it there! 」

「Isn’t a treasure like that reserved for something like a world renowned famous sword or for a sword that can cut through anything!」

「I thought the same thing, but it can’t cut at all! 」

「It might need something like will power, if you want it to cut him you need to tell it to cut! Or maybe it needs to devour your life force to be able to cut! Or that’s it, blood! Cut your wrist and make it suck your blood! 」

「But what if it’s a cursed sword! I don’t want to do it! Sansa, you do it!」

「Aaaa you see occult stuff like curses aren’t something I’m good at so, I’ll pass. Shut up and sacrifice your life. 」

「Stop saying weird things! You are scaring me……」

And then my vision became crooked and it turned upside down.

Eh? Seriously? Did it really suck my soul…..

「I have a request to make. This treasure belongs to our country and I can’t let the outsiders take it away. 」

There was a man standing in front of me. He had tanned dark skin and a kind smile on his face. He wasn’t that tall but I was looking up at him for some reason.

「As you wish, I’ll accept that request. 」

A voice came out of my mouth without my will. It was my voice but it was as if it wasn’t my voice. I felt really sad. It made me very sad and the sorrow made me want to cry. I couldn’t hold myself back and tears started flooding out of my eyes. Tears went over my cheeks and kept flowing.

There was a crowd of people far away from me and at the center was that tan man all tied up. On his sides were soldiers wearing armor and the people around him were cursing at him. The soldier wearing armor took out his sword and swung it at the man’s neck. I couldn’t do anything else but watch it happen. I cried and I kept crying for a long long time.

As I kept crying I vowed to myself that I would keep the promise I made with that man, the promise I made with Chinfa. I’ll guard this treasure no matter what. Months passed after that, it felt like an eternity. People were born and people were embraced by death and that was repeated over and over again. The world around me changed but I remained the same. I kept my promise with Chinfa. After all that I began to question at some point how long was I supposed to guard this treasure? When will I be able to fulfill the promise I made with him? Does this have an end? Is there any meaning behind guarding this treasure now that Chinfa is dead?

But even if there was no meaning, I’ll keep guarding the treasure. For the sake of the promise I made with my friend…..

And I cried today all alone like every other day…..

Chinfa, I’m lonely. I’m lonely being all alone…..

And finally I have found a way to fulfill this promise.

「Come back to your senses, Nanana! Oi, Nanana!」

I gasped and became aware of the situation I was in as I looked up. I feel like I was unconscious for a while but judging from my surroundings it seems like time hasn’t passed at all. Sansa slowly moved in front of Ketekete with the stake in her hand. Ketekete was lying on the ground unable to move.

「Even if he is a monster he’ll kick the bucket if I impale his head with this.」

Sansa said it with a cold attitude and Ketekete didn’t show any resistance.

 「Make it quick. 」

 「My bad, white fox. 」

 「Why are you apologizing?」

「Shut up, I just felt like it. See ya. 」

 「No! Stop, Sansa! 」

  I jumped at Sansa.

 「Don’t interrupt me, Nanana! 」

 「Stop it, Sansa! 」

「Don’t show any sympathy for him! He is guarding the treasure! And we are trying to steal it! There is no place for sympathy here! We are the plunderers! We are plundering for our objective and that’s it! If someone comes between us and our objective, we kill. That’s what it means to plunder!  」

 「No, it isn’t like that! 」

「That’s exactly how it is! That’s the least we could do to show our respect for this white fox who has been protecting this treasure for so long! 」

「That’s not it! What you are saying is not wrong but that’s not it! 」

「The hell are ya trying to say then?」

「Ketekete wants to stop guarding the treasure. 」

After listening to what I had said, Sansa’s body wasn’t tense anymore.

「What does that mean? If that’s the case then why did he try to kill us? 」

「That’s because he wouldn’t be able to keep his promise if he doesn’t do that. 」

 「Huh? What? I don’t get what you are…..」

「Ketekete thinks that he wouldn’t be able to fulfill the promise he made unless he gets killed and the treasure gets plundered. That he wouldn’t be able to honor Chinfa-san. 」

「…..So, you saw my memories. 」

Ketekete looked somewhat disappointed as he stared at the sword I was holding.

「That treasured sword has a special ability. If the wielder of the sword cuts someone, the wielder is able to cut open the memory of the person who is cut and take a peek at their memories. Especially the memories they hold dear. 」

「I see, so that’s how I was able to look at Ketekete’s memories. 」

「What’s this promise she is talkin about, white fox? 」

Sansa, who doesn’t know what’s going on, asked Ketekete.

「I promised my friend to guard the treasure that lies here. In order to fulfill that promise, I kept guarding the treasure and I would continue till I’m no longer able to fulfill it. 」

「And you got tired of protecting it. If that’s the case then why not just break it? 」

「I can’t do that, Chinfa was my irreplaceable friend. I can’t break my promise with him. 」

「So, that’s why you are choosing death. 」

Sansa muttered and smacked the stake against the ground with all her might.

「That’s idiotic, is he stupid or something? This is why I can’t understand the ones with balls. 」

I thought of pointing out the vulgar thing Sansa had just uttered but I couldn’t speak up because Sansa was really annoyed at Ketekete.

「You guys make me really mad! For honor, customs and traditions, family, and friends….. You guys are extremely stupid! That’s just self-satisfaction! Nobody wishes for you guys to suffer like this! A promise that’s fulfilled by someone’s death!?I don’t want something like that! Everything ends once you die! 」

She kicked the treasure near her in rage. It seemed like she was screaming at someone who wasn’t here.

Sansa took a deep breath and exhaled as if she was trying to let out all the anger she had built up.

 「I won’t kill you. 」

 「Sansa.」

「Don’t get me wrong, Nanana. Since I am an evil doer, I love doing things people hate. Oi, white fox I’ll do something that you’d hate even more. I’m going to let you live and take all this treasure without leaving behind a single piece for you to guard. You wouldn’t be able to keep your promise and keep living a miserable life. 」

Sansa spat her words out and Ketekete fell into despair with no hope left for him to cling onto.

「Then, what should I do from now on? What should I do now that I wasn’t able to keep my words? 」

Ketekete looked up at the sky as if he was asking someone, his eyes had something sparkling in them.

「Then, stay with me from now on. 」

I extended my hand at Ketekete and smiled at him.

 「Don’t be stupid Nanana. I don’t wish for such a thing.」

「No, you lost to us so you don’t have any right to deny me. Ketekete, you are mine. 」

Ketekete got confused and Sansa looked at me as I smiled, she was baffled by what I had proposed.
