Volume 2 Chapter 5 Part 7
Exactly.
The fact that Akechi Mitsuhide, also known as Juubei, didn’t have the occasion to mention to Nobuna just yet wasd the one that now that the continuity of the main family of the Ashikaga clan has been servered, Imagawa Yoshimoto, the female Daimyo of the Imagawa clan had the legitimate right to become the new Shogun.
Though Nobuna has totally no interest in such messy affairs, she realized the following:
「If we let her be the new Shogun, we will have the righteous motive to proceed to the capital. 」
… and she reluctantly agreed to accept the present state of affairs.
「Though she is an irritating woman, if I make Imagawa Yoshimoto a Shogun and eradicate Matsunaga Hisahide and The Miyoshi Three, I don’t think Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin will have any way to interrupt with my plans. 」
「Yes. Though I agree that the behavior of the head of the Imagawa clan cannot be described as anything other than foolish, we do not need her per se, but just the status of her bloodline, so there should be no problems, and it won’t cause any harm to our side too. 」
「Ohhohoho. Once I become the new Shogun, Nobuna, no matter if it’s Kanrei or vice-Shogun, just choose any rank that you like. The great me is a very generous lady, so I will grant it to you without any strings attached whatsoever! Ohohohoho. 」
「You are very noisy, you know? Oi, Yoshimoto, hurry and stamp your seal on this ‘contract’. After you do this, I will let you be the Shogun! 」
「Oho? What is this? 」
Yoshimoto asked while taking the document that Nobuna threw towards her.
Written on the document was…
#1: Even with the rank of the Shogun, the one signing this document will be nothing but a puppet ruler. All official documents to be approved must have Oda Nobuna’s stamp on them to possess any kind of legal power.
#2: The people will be directly ruled by Oda Nobuna. All opposition will be executed without
exceptions. If the individual becoming the puppet Shogun ever chooses to oppose her, they will be executed as well.
#3: No matter what the puppet Shogun will do, they must help the busy Oda Nobuna serve Himiko in Kyoto.
#4: The puppet Shogun is not allowed to laught in a foolish, high-pitched way, because it is too noisy.
# 5: From now on, the puppet Shogun must have an open a caring heart towards Oda Nobuna and treat her just like how they would treat their own mother or sister. Respect her every day and do not face your legs in her direction when you sleep.
These 5 totally arrogant rules were listed out in Nobuna’s own handwriting.
「What the hell is this!? This is totally rude and unacceptable towards the future Shogun, that is to say, towards me! 」
「I said you are going to be just a puppet, remember? Isn’t that obvious that a puppet will be treated in such a way? Someone who is below me saying things about my decisions should be dragged out to the main square of the castle town and be executed in public. Besides, why haven’t you retired already!? 」
「Ahhhhh….Moto…Motoyasu, Motoyasu~! 」
「I’m here, my lady! 」
Coming from Mikawa to congratulate Nobuna on the conquering of Mino, Matsudaira Totoyasu, the human that looked like a tanuki, answered Imagawa Yoshimoto’s summons, and appeared in front of all of them in an instant.
「I… will definitely not stamp my seal on such a devious contract! Ahh… but, but with such a hostage life that I’ve been living until now, I can only play soccer in such a rundown place. If I can go to Kyoto and live my life there, it must definitely be more grand! Motoyasu! Now, hurry and think of a plan to restore the Imagawa clan to its proper glory! 」
「No matter, just stamp your seal on this document first! We will talk about it once you’ve become the Shogun. Then there will be an opportunity to nullify this contract~. Hehehehe! 」
「Haha, as expected from Motoyasu! You sure are a cunning one, I’ll give you that! Ohohohoho! 」
And then, Imagawa Yoshimoto stamped her seal happily on this demonic contract, almost as if she was selling her own soul to the devil along with it
(Nicely done, Takechiyo!)
Nobuna sent a 「Good Job! 」type of glance towards Motoyasu.
(Though her pride is as high as the peak of Mount Fuji, she is unexpectedly easy to manage and manipulate~)
Takechiyo answered with a glance of her own too.
「Juubei, in Kyoto your behavior and knowledge will definitely be usefu to usl. From now on, work hard under me as a retainer! 」
「Understood. I’ll be honored to serve you, Nobuna-sama! 」
Mitsuhide bowed to Nobuna with a solemn face, but Yoshiharu was still in a state of confusion.
「Lying to this stupid princess to get her stamp on this slave contract, these two sure are devious…. No, wait, Imagawa Yoshimoto, who should be dead after the Battle of Okehazama, becoming the Shogun!? This fellow is much harder to handle than Ashikaga Yoshiaki would be! I hope that this won’t turn into as huge of a mess as I think it will! 」
From that point in the past, the wheels of history might spin in a very different direction than Yoshiharu expected.
「Hanbei-chan once warned me about this. If the time comes when my knowledge obtained from Sengoku era games won’t be able to help me anymore, what can I do? 」
At this moment, Nobuna mercilessly shouted at him:
「Damn Monkey! Your knowledge has times when it’s wrong indeed! This Juubei right here might just be more useful to me than you right now! 」
「None… that’s none of your damn business! 」
Just then, Mitsuhide sneaked a glance at Yoshiharu’s face, and her white cheeks suddenly became flushed with a tinge of red.
「Hmmm. You must be that one who talked so much about the ‘world’ in Masanori Temple. 」
「Yes, I’m Sagara Yoshiharu. I’ll be in your care from now on. 」
「What? so you are the rumored Sagara Yoshiharu-sama!? 」
Mitsuhide turned towards Yoshiharu immediately and gave him a deep bow.
「From now on, do take care of me too, Sagara-senpai! 」
Looking at this serious Mitsuhide, Yoshiharu couldn’t help it but to feel a little embarrassed.
「Ah, no, no. There’s no need for you to be calling me senpai!! Our age isn’t that far apart, so don’t be so reserved! Hahahaha! 」
「No, Senpai is Senpai! Sagara-senpai’s legendary 「Sunomata’s One Night Castle」 is even famous in Kyoto! Senpai had been recognized as the No. 1 general in the country! Compared to Senpai, Juubei is still so far off she can never catch up to you, so please do guide me along from now on! 」
The serious Mitsuhide blushed, and held onto Yoshiharu’s hands tightly, but after realizing that he is a young man…
「Ahh. Sorry, that… that was so rude of me! 」
… she released his hands while feeling even more embarrassed.
「I’m really, really sorry, do…doing such a ridiculous act was unbecoming of me! 」
「Ara, so people have been looking at me like that, huh? I will definitely be welcomed in Kyoto properly then. This might turn into quite a headache though. 」
「Yes, after going to the capital, Senpai will definitely be welcomed like a proper famed general! 」
Getting embarassed after something so simple like holding hands and having her eyes shine so brightly after praising her senpai… all those things made Juubei look even cuter than before in Yoshiharu’s eyes.
(If it’s this Juubei-chan who is so serious and pure, there shouldn’t be a thing like a revolt happening.)
Yoshiharu was a bit relieved.
The second most famous event in the Sengoku era strategy game 「The Ambition of Oda Nobunaga」is 「The Battle of Okezahama」, an event that Yoshiharu has cleared in this world already. But the most famous event is without a doubt Oda Nobunaga getting killed by Akechi Mitsuhide in what would later become known as「The Honno-ji Incident 」.
Oda Nobunaga, who was betrayed by his own retainer, Akechi Mitsuhide, was only one step away from conquering the world at the time when he committed seppuku in Kyoto’s Honno-ji temple in the midst of the raging flames. His life of ambition was forcibly drawn a close just like that. Kinoshita Tokichiro, who at that time was known as Hashiba Hideyoshi, was at Chugoku battling with the Mori clan’s army, and that’s why he couldn’t be at Oda Nobunaga’s side when the incident took place, and Shibata Katsuie and Niwa Nagahide had their own armies spread out to battle with enemy countries for the sake of uniting the world as one under Nobunaga, so in the end, no one came to his aid.
