Assault Silhouette Part 1

The Cimon-class had finally made it to the coast.

It immediately deployed its Dragoon tanks and armored combat vehicles one after another.

Lastly, the Quattro Silhouettes and bipedal Silhouettes had also launched out as well.

The bipedal Silhouettes that had deployed were all Lanius A1s.  Seventy percent of their pilots were Nereids.  The male to female ratio of the Nereids was also quite skewed to one side, with eighty percent being female and only twenty percent being male.

They were also lifeforms that were developed by Sophia and birthed by Asia for the purpose of supplementing and increasing the population of the human race.  They were an intelligent race that had twice the lifespan of humans, had generally excellent appearances, and had high mental processing ability.

In particular, they stop aging at a regular rate upon reaching 15 years old and their physical aging will become extremely slow.   They still looked like they were in their thirties even after reaching a hundred years of age, so they were labeled as elves by the transferees who came from the Earth of the past.

Previously, only the men among them were called Nereids, but now, both the men and women are referred to as Nereids.

There have also been quite a lot of mixed-race children between Nereids and humans that have been born over the course of thousands of years.  Most of them inherited the racial characteristics of either the human or Nereid parent exclusively.  Blue was the latter.  There were no concepts of ‘half’ or ‘quarter’ among the mixed-race offspring.

They held a special kinship with the Familiars and Therianthropes that were also created just like them but were constantly sent to their deaths time and time again.  And upon witnessing them die hopelessly on the battlefields, the Nereids were also made to feel their own powerlessness.

When they heard that many Familiars and Therianthropes were gathering in Fortress Are P336, the Nereids immediately realized that Asia was in the Fortress Area.

As expected, Fortress Area P336 didn’t actually show any indication that she was with them, but the Nereids could clearly sense the presence of Asia behind the Fortress Area.  The story was spread around and eventually resulted in the Nereids gathering there as well.

Even though the Nereids were birthed by Asia, they had failed to protect or regain those that she wanted to protect.  That’s why this time around, they will protect them without fail.

Metal Iris also prioritized employing people like them who held a strong faith in Asia. Hence, a large number of troops consisting solely of Nereids was naturally formed.

And now, they served as the pilots of the Lanius A1.

Their machines were only equipped with AK2s and longswords.  Their armament loadout was certainly limited, but it was more than enough for them.

However, it’s a fact that the Lanius A1 had ended up gaining one more additional drawback compared to its original variant.  It cannot be equipped with weapons that consumed a lot of electricity such as railguns.

In order for them to keep both electromagnetic armor and the armor muscle system, they gained the drawback of being unable to use equipment that used a large amount of electrical power.

And among them, there was a certain unusual Nereid.  His name was Jamie.  He outwardly appeared to be a man who was just past forty.  In reality though, he was already over 130 years old.  He sported a tough and masculine look – a rarity among the generally gentle-looking Nereids.

He was also one of the most experienced veterans among the Nereids.  He was eventually appointed as the captain of the Lanius A1 corps, but he personally believed he wasn’t really fit for the role of a leader.

He was piloting a Lanius B.   He was a veteran mercenary, and right after signing up with Metal Iris, he immediately applied to purchase and eventually customized a Lanius B Flight type with his personal funds.

「Make sure to take down the Keres. They aren’t a match for the Lanius. And always match your pace with the Dragoon tanks.」

The Lanius corps accompanied the Dragoon tank unit that was exchanging fire with Mantis types and moved to eliminate another enemy unit that tried to go around and conduct an encirclement.

The mass production machine Lanius A1. It sported electromagnetic armor and armor muscles, and its defensive capabilities were vastly superior to tanks from a decade ago.

It was highly mobile, and even if the opponent tries to keep its distance, The Lanius was capable of chasing it down quickly.

The prototype longsword Kou used was developed into an official weapon and became one of the Lanius A1’s main weapons.  The sword was able to cut through even electromagnetic armor.

Then, Blue’s Thunderstorm arrived above them.

A barrage from its 60mm autocannon quickly wiped out the Ant Worker type Keres.

「Jamie, I’ll leave our Hidden Boss here.  He’s all yours.」

Unit 5 had ejected itself from Thunderstorm 1. It was in a Lanius B type configuration and was equipped with a specialized flight backpack.  This additional armor system was sent over by Nyanta the night before.

The other Thunderstorms also dropped similar units.

「It’s my honor to be able to fight alongside a legendary mercenary who fought fiercely in the Nemesis warfront.」

Kou had heard of Jamie’s exploits as a veteran mercenary.  When he appeared among the applicants during the recruitment drive, he caused quite a stir among the Metal Iris members.

Rick was particularly excited when he found out that Jamie had joined them. Rick was also considered a legendary tank commander himself, but Jamie was the kind of man he preferred fighting alongside with.

Jamie had fought many battles on the war-torn Planet Asia as a mercenary for thirty years.  He had definitely undergone many harsh experiences during those thirty years.

「Haha, I’m just a regular old man (Nereus). I’m glad that I can fight together with our Hidden Boss as well.」

Even though Jamie didn’t exactly display a smile when he said those words, they were his genuine thoughts.

Nereus.  It seemed that the name referred to an old man. He had placed his bet on Metal Iris.

He also held Kou in particularly high regard. The other party was a man who managed to rescue Asia and could be said to be the one who had created the current Metal Iris.  No other man had managed to accomplish what Kou did.

「Please give us your orders, sir.」

Everyone waited for Kou’s instructions.  It was probably to raise morale as well.

After all, they didn’t have many opportunities to fight together with their Hidden Boss.

Kou hesitated a little, but he eventually voiced his thoughts.

He hoped that he wouldn’t mess it up though.

『Our aerial reconnaissance has confirmed the movements of the enemy troops. The Ate is about 200 kilometers away from here. We have to reduce the number of Murders as much as we can before it arrives.  The Thunderstorms will take the lead, and the Dragoon tanks and well-armored Battle Silhouettes will push up the front lines!』

「This is the Battle Silhouette Black Tiger corps! Acknowledged!」

The captain of the Black Tigers riding on the Dragoon tanks responded to Kou’s order.

The Black Tiger was equipped with a large-caliber railgun, missile pods, and a rocket launcher.  It was not suited for melee combat, but its long-range armaments were comparable to those equipped on the Dragoon tank.

It was the first time the Black Tiger captain had heard of the term Battle Silhouette, but he felt it sounded quite nice.  That’s why he couldn’t help but respond.

『The highly mobile Assault Silhouettes will intercept and defeat the Murders detouring to form encirclements.  We’ll protect one corner of the tank corps’ flank. Absolutely do not allow the enemies to surround our troops!』

「This is the Assault Silhouette Lanius corps. Understood.」

Jamie responded.  It was a pretty straightforward command. In other words, do not allow the enemies to surround the tank corps.

The Lanius corps was certainly suitable for intercepting and defeating enemies that try to circumvent the allied troops.

Calling a machine like the Lanius an Assault Silhouette was also easily understandable.

Kou and Jamie’s machines lined up, brandished their swords, and charged at the enemies.

The attacking Mantis types were cut down by the two of them with exquisite timing.

A large number of the Ant types behind were also routed in the blink of an eye.

「E-Everyone, support those two!」

The rest of the Lanius corps finally regained their senses and rushed after the two in the lead.  They couldn’t help but get dazzled by the utterly breathtaking and synchronized moves of Kou and Jamie’s machines.

They pushed up the front lines while providing cover fire with their AK2s.
