CHAPTER 10: RANK UP

「Congratulations, Shroud-san!」

After we got back to town, I had to deal with all sorts of paperwork related to the bandits’ case, which dragged out all over until the evening.」

Later, when I was called into the Adventurers’ Guild, a smiling Natalie-san the Receptionist said those exact words to me.

「Congratulations…… What do you mean by that?」

「It has been officially decided that Shroud-san’s Adventurer’s Rank is going to be ranked up as a special exception.」

「Huh?」

Being told something like that completely all of a sudden, the only thing I could do here was to let out a surprised voice like that.

My Adventurer’s Rank is going to be upgraded?

「From now on, you are no longer an F-rank Adventurer, Shroud-san. You are going to be an E-rank Adventurer!」

「I-Is that so?」

「Oh wow, you did it, Rein♪! Congratulations!」

Kanade also congratulated me with an innocent smile on her face, but to be completely honest, I had no idea how to feel about this at all.

The only thing I’ve done since I became an adventurer was to collect some medicinal herbs, after all.

Natalie-san seemed to understand my apparent confusion and she proceeded to explain things to me.

「What you need in order to improve your Rank is to complete a certain number of requests. Shroud-san hasn’t completed the required amount of requests yet, but a special exception has been granted based on your recent accomplishments.」

「Huh? Did I really do something that deserves a reward like that?」

Somehow, that explanation was more than enough for me to actually understand what was going on.

「The eradication of the Jet Black Fang, which other Adventurers were having such a hard time dealing with, was possible largely due to Shroud-san’s achievements. Or rather, it’s entirely thanks to you, Shroud-san.」

Natalie-san then gave me a beautiful smile, one that you just couldn’t quite help it but to stop and admire it..

「Well, since I was unable to move up to the according rank, the Guild offered me all of that money as a form of compensation.」

That’s the reward for this entire Jet Black Fang business.

Kanade looked really happy with herself for some reason and……

In the next moment, she made a face as if she just remembered something and her tail went all squishy and limpy.

「Hm? What’s wrong, Kanade?」

「I’m hungry……」

I couldn’t help but to laugh at what Kanade said just now.

「Nyaaah, don’t laugh at me! You’re terrible, Rein! I have worked really hard today, you know!」

「Sorry, sorry. I know, Kanade worked really hard today, right? How about we get some food for the time being?」

Kanade smiled and got a big smile on her face.

I swear, she’s so free-spirited, that Kanade.

But maybe this kind of cheerfulness is her own, unique charm.
