CHAPTER 103: WHAT’S THE NEWEST ABILITY I GOT? PART 1

「So, what kind of power did you get, Rein?」

It was the next morning.

When I got up and moved to the living room, Tina asked me about that all of a sudden.

「What are you talking about?」

「What I mean is exactly what I said: what kind of new power did you get, Rein? The fact that you signed a contract with me must mean that you got yourself some new power, right? I have heard about it from everyone else.」

「Oh, is that so?」

I looked at Kanade, wanting to hear some explanation from her.

「Haguh, hague, haguh!」

But she was so absorbed in eating her breakfast that I assumed that she would be of no help in that matter.

So I looked at Tanya instead and she carefully explained to me.

「You see, Tina is not a normal person, she’s a ghost. If I were to classify her, she’d be about a D grade, I suppose?　It might be a little bit of a stretch here, but I think that it is safe to assume that by signing a contract with her, you would be able to gain some sort of new power or ability.」

「Alright!」

For some reason, Tina was really happy with that.

I mean, why is Tina so happy, when we are clearly talking about me here?

「Aren’t you interested in what kind of new power you got, Rein? If you want to take a look at it and try it out, we would be more than happy to help you.」

「Oh, yeah, I’m actually really interested in that, too.」

「Rein just got himself a new power? If so, Sora is curious about that, too!」

「What’s going to happen when you make a contract with a ghost, I wonder? Will you be able to float in mid-air, like she can?」

Sora and Luna had joined the conversation as well.

Nina was meekly eating her breakfast this whole time, but……

She would occasionally cast quick glances towards me as well.

It would seem that she was also interested in my newly acquired power.

「Haguh, haguh, haguh!」

As for Kanade, she just continued to munch on her breakfast, unconcerned with anything else.

Maybe she simply didn’t hear what we were saying right now, but……

She was eating at an extremely fast pace.

「Okay, I get it. How about we go and check that new power of mine out sometime later?」

「Sure, sure! Let’s do just that! And if you happen to have unlocked some ghost related ability, I can teach you all about it in great detail!」

Tina seemed to be beside herself with happiness because of that promise, but……

Why does she care so much about it in the first place?

It was a bit strange for sure.

Right after the breakfast was finished……

We moved to the living room once more.

However, we have pulled the table and the chairs to the edges of the room, leaving its center empty for the ease of movement.

「Well then, first order of business!　What power did you get from signing up for a contract with Tina!　Verification Test, let’s do this thing!」

「…… C-Clap, clap.」

「Talk about a whole lot of excitement.」

Everyone seemed to be really excited about that……

I have set today as a day off because it would be a lot of work if I had to take on request after request every single day.

So this meant that we could spend today’s time however we pleased.

That is why everyone was present in the living room right now.

Does that mean that the girls have nothing else that they would want to do on their own for the time being?

…… Oh well, even if it is only because they are bored, I guess it’s fine, really.

「Say, say, Rein? Have you ever made a contract with a ghost before?」

「No, not really. To begin with, not until a while ago, I have only signed contracts with regular animals to begin with.」

「Alright! So that means that I am your very first when it comes to contracts with ghosts, right! That’s great to hear!」

For some reason, Kanade barged in on Tina’s words.

She was puffing out her chest, looking all proud from her statement just now.

For some reason, Kanade’s shoulders slumped with an apparent relief.

Was she that particular about being the first creature that had a contract forged with me? But why would she care so much about that?

To me, everyone, including Kanade, is an important friend and precious comrade.

It doesn’t matter if you were the first or the second, as everyone is pretty much equal in my eyes.

After I said that, Tina clapped her hands together with a loud sound as if to focus everyone’s attention back onto the subject at hand.

Yes, the sudden turn of events surely has left everyone in here feeling rather confused, but……

But do we really need to go to such lengths just so that we could confirm what kind of power I have received from Tina?

But then again, so far we have been thrown into a whole bunch of unpredictable and impromptu situations.

So I guess that actually knowing what that power is, this might help us strategize better and reduce the dangers that we are sure to encounter while going forward into the future.

「Okay, but how exactly are we going to verify that……」

「T-This is……」

Tina choked on her words at Kanade’s plausible question.

I guess she didn’t really think this idea through as much as she thought she did……

Looking very troubled, Tina was sweating profusely.
