CHAPTER 103 PART 2

「W-Well then, umm…… Oh yeah! That! Isn’t it true that your body somehow automatically adapts and learns how to operate those new powers? You know, like you did with Nina?」

「Hmmm……」

Hearing that suggestion, I try to move my body lightly.

I then try clasping and opening the palms of my hands.

I then checked my own body in a few more positions and configurations, but I did not feel as if there was any kind of change to it, no matter what.

There was no awkward or unusual response, just like it happened in Nina’s case.

「Hmm…… I’m sorry, but I don’t feel any different in particular.」

「O-Oh…… I see……」

「Maybe you have actually mastered some new form of magic? How about that? Try to concentrate and find out!」

「Well, that doesn’t seem to be it, either. There are still only those three basic spells that I know about.」

「…… Maybe…… Do you feel like you have more power inside of you, or something like that?」

「Hmm, I don’t know.　I don’t even feel like I did when I signed a contract with Kanade. And since that feeling was really distinct, I would have picked up on that right away.」

「Then what about your Magic Power? Why don’t you try to cast a simple spell to see if its power increased?」

「I don’t really have a magic spell that I could use in such a way, but even if I did, I don’t think that would have made any difference, either. For example…….. “Heal”.」

I cast a healing spell on myself really quick.

The scar on my thumb that was created yesterday when I made a contract with Tina disappeared without a trace.

With the same speed and power as usual. I couldn’t actually feel that there was any change in the whole casting or healing process.

「So then…… maybe just like with me…… Have you gained some sort…… of a special ability……?」

「Now, even if that was the case here, there is no actually way for us to confirm that. That is because I have no idea how I would even be able to make that power manifest.」

「So it’s a…… no, then.」

「Guha!」

Upon hearing Tanya’s very frank words, Tina couldn’t help herself but to drop her head in disappointment.

But then again: why would Tina care so much about that?

Could it be that she wanted to help me check that power out because she felt responsible for it somehow? Or that it was her duty because she has gotten herself involved with us?

「…… Hmm, so in the end, none of us is able to think of anything that might do the trick here, huh?」

After that, we tried all sorts of ways to see what kind of power I got from signing up a contract with Tina……

But as the time would pass, we were as close to unraveling that mystery as we were at the very beginning. So we actually made no progress at all.

「Nyah, no matter how hard I try to think about it…… nothing comes to my mind……」

「Could it be that you actually received no power at all? I mean, we have tried literally EVERYTHING we could think of, and it still did not bring us any results.

「S-Seriously now……?」

Realizing that fact, Tina couldn’t be more depressed than she already was.

She was now stranded so deep in her own melancholy that even a simple act of talking to her seemed like a really tall order.

I still don’t know why she would even care so much about it, but……

Since she was so invested in it, I really wanted to do something for her. Just so that she would be able to smile once more.

In order to do that, I have to make sure I have the power I got from signing up a contract with her under my full control…… But how exactly would I even be able to do that?

「Tina, can I ask you something? Why do you care so much whether or not I have acquired some new power from our contract?」

After a moment of hesitation, I decided to ask Tina that question straight away.

Sometimes, there are some things that you absolutely need to put into words in order to understand them.

「T-This is……」

「If you don’t mind, could you perhaps tell me?」

「…… It’s just that… you have taken such great care of me, Master Rein. I just want to repay you for the kindness that you have shown me. And I thought, if we were to make a contract, maybe I could actually help you out by granting you some new power……」

「I see…… So that’s what this is all about.」

I didn’t know that she was worried about that matter so much.

But apart from that, I’m glad to see that Tina feels that way.

The power I got from making a contract with a ghost…….

I want to find out somehow, but it’s not nearly as easy as we have all thought it would be.

Tina didn’t seem to be able to wrap her head around that matter, either, as she was only floating around in mid-air, looking all flustered and scratching her head frantically.

…… Wait, floating?

I’m wondering if……

Suddenly, it occurred to me that there is a certain possibility here.

And it’s actually worth trying it out.

「…… Rein?」

「Say, guys? Please stand still and watch for a moment.」

I closed my eyes and concentrated.

I focused my attention entirely on myself……

Exploring the power I gained from signing a contract with Tina.

…… There it is! I found it!

The light that had been sinking deep inside of my body.

I picked it up and made it my own.

And then……

「Ooohhh!!!」

It felt as if the fetters on my body were all detached at once.

As I did so, my feet left the floor.

My body floated slightly and drifted in a fluffy manner in mid-air.

「Rein, he’s…… floating…… Wha!? Huh!? But why!?」

「Is that the power you got from signing a contract with Tina……?」

「How do you stay afloat like that?　It’s amazing just how strange it is!」

「I can feel the magic flowing through me, but it’s not like magic…?　Is it perhaps a skill?」

「Could it be that…… you are controlling…… gravity itself……?」

「Nina, you’re actually correct.」

By manipulating gravity, I was able to freely float through the air, just like Tina was.

I couldn’t notice it at first because I had never thought of being able to interfere with gravity, but……

Once I realized this potential, the rest was pretty easy.

However, it was quite difficult to control.

I was able to float only a few inches in the air, barely enough to be lifted off of the ground.

Even with the magic power that was greatly increased by signing a contract with Tanya, I don’t seem to be able to sustain it for a prolonged time.

「Hmmm…….I guess that’s about it.」

「Why would you be so impressed by something like that, Tina?」

「Well, that is because…… I really wanted to be of some help to you, Rein. Did I manage to do a good job at that?」

「Yes, very much. I am going to be able to master this ability and use it properly, I think it will become a really strong and helpful “weapon” in the battles to come. Thank you very much for bestowing this ability on me. I really appreciate it.」

「Oh, I see…… So I was really of use to you just now, hmm, Rein? …… Fufufu, that makes me so happy, you couldn’t even begin to imagine.」

Smiling happily, Tina looked so refreshed and satisfied.
