「W-What are you saying……!? Are you mad!? Hero-sama stopped the premature Stampede from happening! He saved the entire city!」

「Hahaha…… Now I wonder? Was it really the Hero and his cronies who stopped the monsters outside of the city? Because I highly doubt that.」

「And who do you think you are, saying things like that? Don’t you know that it’s utterly disrespectful to say lies about someone like that in broad daylight!?」

Just when Arios was finally starting to get into a good mood, the appearance of that man caused his expression to spiral all the way back to his usual, grim and gloomy one. He looked extremely unhappy at the moment.

He even glared at the man as if trying to intimidate him and cause him to back off, but……

Still, that managed to accomplish nothing and the merchant-looking man was still talking uninterrupted.

「You do realize that words of gratitude are meant solely for those who deserve them and worked hard to hear them, correct? Well, if that is the case, then I guess that this here Hero can be excluded from them.」

「I know. I know what transpired in Horizon.」

Arios’s brows frowned slightly.

The Lord’s aide gave him a curious look upon hearing those words.

「Horizon? What’s that about Horizon? What happened there?」

「Just the other day, a genuine Demon showed up in the middle of the city, going on a rampage and causing quite considerable damage. That Demon was eventually defeated by Horizon’s Adventurers, but…… Don’t you think that this is strange? The rumors say that at the time of the Demon attack, the Hero and his Party were nowhere to be seen.」

「That’s just a rumor, isn’t it? …… Besides, I do know what happened in Horizon, but we were already out of town by the time that the Demon had emerged. So I don’t know what kind of low quality hoax you are actually trying to sell here, but it’s not really all that impressive, you know?」

「A hoax, you say……? Then it would have to be a hoax said by all of my merchant friends from Horizon. Are you suggesting that they are all lying?」

「Oh, it’s not a rumor…… I assure you.」

A new man joined the conversation all of a sudden.

He seems to have been drinking quite a bit, and his face was flushed bright red……

But he clearly glared at Arios, anger visible on his less-than sober face.

「I am actually a resident of Horizon!　Right now, I’m out here shopping for the materials we need for all of the rebuild efforts…… And I sure as hell saw it all go down!　The palace that the Hero-sama stayed holed up in throughout the entire incident!」

「Ngh!」

「The Hero did nothing to help the people of Horizon! Even though he kept on mooching off of our hard-earned tax money, he has done nothing to actually go out there and help us! I have heard that a friend of mine even went to ask for help from a Hero, but he was blatantly ignored!　He even said that he doesn’t care in the least what ends up happening to Horizon! Hah! Some Hero you actually are! You don’t even have the courage to fight actual Demons!」

「You little shit……!」

The man’s tirade was indeed growing more and more unbearable for Arios to listen to, and he stood up while raising his voice.

In a hurry, Aggath restrained Arios from doing something rash and unreasonable.

「Arios, calm down!」

「Are you telling me to just shut up and take it!? After I was so viciously mocked just now!?」

「Just take a look around you.」

The surrounding guests and patrons of the inn were all looking at Arios.

The emotions that were clearly visible in their eyes…… were that of contempt and disappointment.

Everyone in here knew the rumors about Arios and his Party.

Everyone knew what Arios had done in Horizon.

Even the Lord’s aide had heard the stories to some extent.

It was just that, due to the achievement of stopping the premature Stampede from turning into something much worse, he just pretended that he hadn’t heard those rumors.

Shaking off the surrounding gazes of the other patrons, Arios climbed the stairs to the upper floor of the inn and disappeared into his personal room.

Taking that as a signal that the show was over, the murmurs and chatters returned over the entire ground floor.

I knew it, that Hero is really suspicious.

Can we really rely on someone like that to save the world?

How can someone like that even be a Hero in the first place?

Words like that were starting to circulate all over the room, spoken in excited and hushed voices.

Until a while ago, everyone was praising their efforts.

But now, there was no one who would even look at them with the respect they deserved.

They were all looking down on them, as if they were some kind of worms.

「Haah…… The hell is wrong with this atmosphere? It’s the freaking worst!」

「Rin, that’s not actually……」

「The only reason this turned out the way it did was because of the decision that Arios had made. We had nothing to do with this.」

Mina couldn’t really say anything to Rin’s words.

Because inwardly, she believes that Rin was right and that she spoke the truth.

Because that’s how she was subconsciously thinking. She knew that the blame for this was entirely on Arios’s shoulders.

「…… Do you have a moment?」

Aggath said to Mina in a hushed voice.

「What is it?」

「There’s something I want to talk to you about while we are at it.」

「What is it?」

「Didn’t a lot of money disappear from our traveling fund when we were staying at Horizon?　That…… I think that the one who took it…… was actually Arios.」

「What’s that?　What do you mean?」

「Keep your voice down.」

「…… Do you have any proof?」

「None. But given the circumstances, there’s no one else who could have taken the money and get away with it but Arios.」

「That’s……」

「But what did he spend it on?　That was also quite a bit of money, wasn’t it?」
