CHAPTER 106: LUNA’S COOKING CLASS PART 1

「Nyah…… Fuuh…… Kuuh…… Kuuh……」

「Suu…… Suu…… Nnh…… Nnnnnnhhhhhh……」

On the couch at the very end of the living room, Kanade and Tanya were napping without a single care in the world, leaning against each other and touching shoulders.

Kanade was even chuckling and drooling a little bit in her sleep.

Maybe she was dreaming about finally getting her hands on that long-awaited fish of hers, and getting to enjoy it all by herself.

As for Tanya, she was swooning a little bit, looking a little uncomfortable in her sleep.

Maybe it was all because of the occasional swipe of Kanade’s tail against her face, something that surely was not making her rest more enjoyable and all that pleasurable.

Overall, the atmosphere around the house was a peaceful one.

This kind of thing was not so bad in and out of itself.

Right now, we had a fair number of accomplished requests behind our belt, and the ones that were currently posted at the Guild were of the kind that we could accomplish properly relatively easily.

We also had a steady source of income and a reasonable amount of savings for any kind of unforeseen matters……

So it was actually quite easy for us to take a break from work from time to time, and act just like today, recuperating and doing pretty much nothing.

Going around the city and its immediate premises all the time to fulfill all those different requests tends to get you really tired before you even know it.

So it’s a good thing to have at least one day throughout the week like this, so that we could rest and relax for a little bit.

「…… Rein, Rein.」

「…… Hm? Oh, Nina. What’s wrong?」

Nina walked up to me in a hurry, looking all timid.

「Have you seen Tina…… I can’t find her anywhere.」

「Come to think of it, she said that she was going to clean around the house, so she should be around here somewhere?」

「I-I see……」

「You wanted to see Tina for something?」

「…… I was wondering…… if she could teach me…… how to cook……」

「Cooking, huh……? Sure, that would be Tina’s forte, but she seemed to be really busy as of late.」

「I-I see…… That’s a shame. Rein…… are you…… busy, too……?」

「No, I don’t have anything going on right now. Is it about cooking? You know, I know a little bit about it, more than enough to cook myself a meal while out in the wilderness, but I’m afraid I’m just not on that level where I could teach others how to do it properly……」

「Well, if that’s what’s going on, then you should leave it all to me!」

「Wah!」

Luna appeared right in front of the two of us seemingly out of nowhere, and Nina was so startled by her sudden appearance that she almost tripped over, whimpering miserably.

Since it was Luna who we were talking about, she must have been listening to the entire conversation from somewhere nearby and was just waiting for the right time for her to step in and announce that.

She seemed to really like that sort of thing. Dramatic entrances, I mean.

「Luna…… Can you really teach me…… how to cook……?」

「Fufun! Just leave it all to me, little one! Despite my appearance, I will let you know that I’m a pretty good cook myself!」

「Come to think of it, that food that you made for us the last time was really delicious.」

「Umu! Umu, umu, umu! Praise me some more! Just so you know, cooking a meal of that level was but a mere kid’s play to me!」

A kid’s play?

Could it be that Luna was trying to say “A mere child’s play!” here?

She did not seem to realize her mistake at all, so I decided to just leave her be for now. It was not something that was really all that important, anyways.

「Right, and since it’s almost noon, how about I show you the ropes and how various things are being done while I’m going to do some dinner preparations? How does that sound to you?」

「Thank…… you very…… much……」

「Umu! It’s fine, really! Don’t even sweat it! You are so cute, Nina. You almost make me feel as if I had a second little sister! So it’s all A-OK!」

And just like that, the two of them went right into the kitchen.

I was actually quite curious as to what would become of it, so I decided to follow them for the time being.

「Say, Nina? Is there any dish in particular out there that you would like to make?

「Hmm, umm…… Anything’s fine…… as long as it…… will make Rein happy……」

「Muh? Something that would make Rein happy? Does that mean you want to learn how to cook for Rein’s sake, Nina?」

「…… Y-Yes. He has done…… so much for me, so…… I want to at least…… do something for him…… in return……」

Is that what Nina was thinking all this time, deep down inside?

But while what Nina said was true, it was also true that she was the one who has helped up in many different ways.

So at least in my opinion, there was nothing for her to be all that worried about there, but……

But I’m still genuinely happy to hear that those were Nina’s honest feelings.

That is why I get a feeling that it would be really rude of me to just step in there and tell her that there was no need for her to try so hard to do it, so……

I decided to just keep an eye on them and see where that cooking lesson would take them.

「Fumu, fumu! Good, good! By the way, how much experience do you have when it comes to cooking, Nina? Can you at least make something really simple?」

「…… Uhhh…… N-No, I…… can’t make anything…… This would be…… my very first time…… cooking something……」

「Hey, there’s no need to feel so discouraged about this! You know what they say: there is always a time and place for that first time! And it’s something that applies to everyone around you! So don’t sweat it and just give it your best! I will guide you every step of the way!」

「Even someone…… like me should…… be able to…… do it……?」

「Umu! Of course! Just listen to my pointers as we go over each and every step of the recipe and you will be fine! Fuhahaha!」

For some reason Luna started laughing like some Boss of an evil underground society, but……

Somehow, I felt like I could really leave it all to her to teach Nina the ropes.

「Since Nina is a beginner cook, what would be the ideal dish to show you the ropes…… Fumuh! Alright! There’s no need to overcomplicate things! Let’s go with the staple of every household: curry!」.

「…… Curry……」

「Yes, although truth to be told, preparing the spice mix can be a royal pain in the ass, but…… Oh well, I guess we could just use whatever we have on us right now. And if we happen to lack something, we can always go to town and buy it there. The rest is pretty easy, actually: you just have to cut all of the ingredients into bite-sized chunks and boil them nicely.」
