CHAPTER 107: GETTING OUR HANDS ON THE LONG-AWAITED FISH PART 1

「Aaahhh……」

Mumbling that under my nose, I walked forward really sluggish, all the while holding my hand onto my stomach.

Kanade, who was walking right next to me, looked at me with concern on her face.

「Rein, are you okay? Are you hurt somewhere?」

「I’m fine…… Or at least, that’s what I would like to think.」

I somehow managed to eat all of Sora’s cooking, but……

As a result of that, I got such a ridiculously powerful stomach ache, unlike of which I have never suffered before.

For about an hour right after I finished eating, I was unable to even move a single muscle.

I must say, Sora’s cooking really is amazing……

…… Amazingly dangerous, that is. And in more ways than one.

There was also one thing I have learned throughout this ordeal: that apparently Sora’s cooking was able to slip right past my Status Ailment Nullification.

「Sora’s cooking, I’m sure that it was really amazing…… Say, say, Rein? How did it even taste like? The smell seemed to be pretty normal to me, but……」

「W-Well, I mean…… If I’m to be completely honest here, it’s a little bit difficult for me to actually put into words…… Or you know what? I would dare to say that I would rather face off against a genuine dragon with my bare hands a hundred times over if I had to eat that thing again.」

「Nyaah…… Rein, that’s quite a statement right there……」

Well, believe me, I don’t want to proclaim things like that, either, as it makes me sound really bad, but……

But it was such a shocking dish that my mind couldn’t really help it but to start rejecting it at the subconscious level.

And when I was thinking about it, I had a really funny feeling starting to reverberate across my stomach all over again.

「If you are not feeling well, Rein, I can do this on my own just fine, you know? If it’s a little bit of grocery shopping, I can manage that quite easily. Have some faith in me.」

「No, that’s not it. It’s just that, no matter how strong you are, Kanade, if the shopping bags are way too bulky, there is no way that you would ever be able to carry all of them on your own, right? So I’m going to help you with that. It’s the least I can do. As for me, I lied down after dinner for an hour or so, so I want to believe that I managed to recover at least to some extent.」

Right after dinner, I decided to go out with Kanade to do some shopping for groceries and various household items and daily necessities.

After all, we needed those for six people in total.

And since it would be really hard for Kanade to carry that much stuff back home all on her own, I decided to tag along with her and help her out.

「Ehehehe♪」

All of a sudden, Kanade smiles brightly at me.

「Hm? Did something good happen?」

「Hmm, not really, but…… just being able to go out with you is so much fun, Rein.」

「But wouldn’t you actually prefer to have some time for yourself, so that you could play around or have fun on your own?」

「Yeah. But spending time with you is equally as important to me, Rein.」

Hoo, is that how it works?

But that being said, is spending time with me really that fun? I mean, it’s not like I have anything all that funny or interesting to say or to talk about…… Hmm?

While we were walking forward, Kanade was humming some new melody under her nose, twitching her ears and wagging her tail happily, seemingly being in a really good mood.

I still don’t understand it all that well, but……

As long as Kanade is happy and satisfied, I guess it’s all good.

「Nyah!?」

It was then that Kanade came to a sudden halt.

「…… Kanade?」

「…… *Sniff, *sniff*, *sniff*, *sniff*, *sniff*……」

Apparently unable to hear me and see me looking at her with great puzzlement on my face, Kanade just continued to stand still, her nose twitching as she was sniffing for something.

It looked as if her nose managed to pick up some scent and she was doing her very best trying to locate its source…… What is going on right now?

「…… !? Rein, this way! Come on!」

「H-Huh? O-Oh, yeah, coming.」

Looking all serious and determined, Kanade took me by the hand and then we both started to run somewhere.

What is it? Did she manage to find whatever it was that she was looking for?

And after I followed Kanade for a little while, the place that we managed to arrive at was actually……

「Come right in! Come right in!　We just got them in this morning, fresh off the boat!　Fresh fish that you won’t be able to find anywhere else! And there’s only one left now!　So come right in! It’s first come, first served with those!」

「Nyaaahhhh!!! Fish! It’s the fish♪!!!」

…… Oh yeah, I see it now.

The thing that managed to lure Kanade in here was the smell of fresh fish.

「Oh, why hello, dear customer! What do you think of that offer, huh? I’ll tell you, if you miss this opportunity right here, you are only going to regret it! Because who knows when we are going to receive the next shipment quite like this one!」

「Hmm, yes, that actually might be true, but…… It’s actually amazing that you managed to obtain a fish like that in the first place. How did you do it?」

「Yes, you see…… Actually, it was supposed to be delivered to some nobleman today. But then he changed his mind at the last moment and said that he won’t be needing it today. So here it is, still in stock and waiting to be sold to whoever is willing to have it for today’s dinner!」

「Oh, I see. But still, a fish, huh……?」

Since Horizon is a city located really far inland, there’s rarely an opportunity to buy fish around these parts.

And even if the fish somehow makes its way here, it usually gets completely sold out really fast. And that is without even mentioning the fact that the nobles would usually catch wind of the delivery way before anyone else and end up buying the entire stock. So the occasions when fish would be available for people to buy it just like that were few and far between.

So I cast a quick glance at Kanade right beside me.

「Nyaa, nyaa…… ♪ Fish, delicious fish…… *Drool*」

As expected, she was staring at the fish as if she was entranced, to the point where she was almost drooling from the corners of her lips.

Or rather, she was drooling a bit already.

「So, dear sir, how about it? What would you like to do? Someone else just bought one a huge amount earlier, so this very last one is sure to be sold out quickly as well. So if you want to make a decision, it would have to be now or never!」
