Beast Tamer Who Got Kicked Out From the Hero’s Party Chapter 109 Part 1
CHAPTER 109: MOTHER AND DAUGHTER PART 1
「Here you go, some tea.」
「My, oh my! Thank you for your hospitality.」
For the time being, we decided to invite Suzu-san to our house.
Kanade and I were sitting side by side on one side of the table, and Suzu-san was sitting on the other side of the table, facing her daughter.
Tina was waiting a little further away in case we needed anything, and……
Everyone else has been informed of what’s going on and was watching at the edge of the living room, looking all curious and intrigued.
It looks like the rest of the girls had zero intentions of hiding and giving us some much needed privacy.
You should have just joined the conversation in the open like that, and not sneaking around and thinking that no one knows that you are even there.
「Haah…… This tea is really delicious. Are you using some high quality leaves to brew it, by any chance?」
「Ah, are you able to tell at a glance? You must have a really refined taste, then. Usually I keep those leaves way at the back of the cupboard, but since we are having such an important guest, I guessed that we needed to how you the best hospitality imaginable.」
「Thank you very much.」
It would seem that Tina and Suzu were getting along rather well.
Could it be that they were what we would call kindred spirits?
「Mother, can you start explaining to us why you are even here?」
「We haven’t seen one another in such a long while, and this is the very first thing that you say to me? That makes me so very sad…… Sob, sob, sob.」
「Please stop with the ugly crying. Everyone can tell that this is basically just an act.」
「Oh my, for you to be able to see right through me, Kanade-chan! You certainly grew up quite a bit! You used to be so easily tricked and floundered by Mommy’s little acting. You would often go and say: “Mama, does it hurt anywhere? I’m here for you, so don’t cry!」
「Y-You don’t have to tell that to everyone!」
Kanade turned beet red in response and hurriedly interrupted Suzu’s story before it could delve any further into Kanade’s childhood antics.
.
I guess that no matter what species you are, talking about one’s past is really embarrassing.
It was then that a certain thought occurred to me…… When it comes to children, their parents are beings that they will never be able to completely oppose.
「But still…… Suzu-san, are you really Kanade’s mother? Actually, isn’t the truth that you are her sister and you are trying to pull off some sort of ridiculous prank?」
「Please rest assured, I am indeed Kanade’s mother. Or could it be that I am so young and pretty that I do not look like her mother at all……?」
「No, that was not what I meant at all…… I mena, for all intents and purposes, you look more like Kanade’s sister…… Or rather, you look more like a twin sister rather than a mother……」
Yes, aside from the fact that she was slightly shorter and had a slightly younger face, Suzu-san looked like a spitting image of Kanade.
There was no way that anyone would be able to tell at a glance that she was a mother. Not in a million years.
By looks alone, you would have trouble even to call Suzu-san an older sister, and the only logical term that was coming to mind here was that of the younger sister.
「Oh my, oh my! You don’t have to flatter me so much, you know! But I’m really glad to hear that, thank you so much.」
She smiled and looked even younger when she did that.
Faced with a situation like that, I decided to turn towards Kanade and secretly consult with her really quickly.
「Say, Kanade……」
「Yeah, I know what you mean. Mother can be more than a little bit peculiar. But there is no doubt about it, she’s unmistakably my mother……」
Does that mean that all members of the Cat Spirit Tribe are like that?
Does that also mean that Kanade is going to retain her younger and energetic looks even as she is going to continue to grow older?
Not that it really mattered here, but that fact was somewhat bothering me at the back of my mind.
「Haah…… This tea is truly delicious.」
Suzu-san let out a short sigh as she admired the tea that was given to her.
「B-But more importantly! Mom, what’s going on here? Why are you even here!? Just don’t tell me that you are in the middle of a sightseeing tour and you stumbled upon Rein by complete accident!?」
「No, I don’t think so?」
「Then, what are you doing here, so far away from home?」
「Of course, it’s because I was looking all over for you, Kanade-chan.」
「For me?」
「And just let me tell you, finding you was really hard, you know? I had to talk to a lot of people and follow your footsteps all the way out here, Kanade-chan…… and that’s how I managed to get to this city. And until I managed to get here, I had my own fair share of adventures to tell you, some of which would certainly make a hardened Adventurer out of me alright……」
「Yeah, geez, you surely had it rough, but we don’t have to listen to you boast about it. More importantly, why were you looking for me in the first place, Mom?」
「Oh, I am sure that you already know my reason for doing so.」
Suzu held out her hand towards Kanade.
She then said with a bright smile on her face.
「Come on, Kanade-chan…… Let go back home together.」
「…… Huh?」
「「「HUUUUUUHHHHHH!?!?!?」」」
At first, it was only Kanade who seemed to be really dumbfounded by that proclamation. And then……
Next, the rest of us followed suit. Until now we were mostly watching in silence, but now we couldn’t help it but to shout out loud.
「W-Wait just a moment, Mom! Going back home together…… What the!? Huh? W-What do you mean by that?」
「It means precisely what I said, though? Kanade, you’re going back to the Cat Spirit Tribe’s village together with me.」
「Weren’t you listening to me!?」
「No, I heard you loud and clear.」
「That’s not the point here! I mean, I’m not going back to the village, no matter what!」
「Oh my, oh my…… Kanade-chan, have you entered your rebellious phase all of a sudden?」
「That’s not it! You are missing the entire point completely!」
「Umm, you two…… Or rather, Kanade? Do you think you could maybe try to calm yourself down for now?」
「HISSS……!!!」
Kanade must have been so riled up and excited right about now that she even hissed at me without thinking.
It took me a moment, but I eventually managed to calm Kanade down by gently patting her head and stroking her ears affectionately.
Suzu, in contrast, was ice-cold and calm from the moment this entire argument started.
