Without being distraught at all, she looked at her panicked daughter with a compassionate expression.

This seems to be some sort of a family dispute, so I really shouldn’t be the one to interfere here, but……

Apparently, there’s more to it than just that. So I need to at least say SOMETHING.

When it comes to the matter of Kanade leaving our party and coming back home, it was a matter that was affecting us greatly.

I don’t know what Suzu-san might think of me for speaking my mind openly, but there is no way that I can just stay quiet here.

「Please excuse me for a moment. I know that I might be the outsider here, but…… Suzu-san, is it true that you have come here to bring Kanade back home with you?」

「Yes, that’s right!」

「Why is that?　Could it be that Kanade has run away from home…… Or perhaps there’s a rule that the Cat Spirit Tribe is not allowed to go out of the village or something like that?」

「No, there’s no such thing. Not that I am aware of.」

「Then would you mind telling us your reason for doing this, first? I am sure that Kanade must feel really confused by your words. I know that the rest of us surely were.」

「Oh, dear. Oh, my! Come to think of it, I haven’t told you the reason for that at all. I’m sorry to have startled you.」

Could it be that this person is a natural-born airhead or something like that?

Or it also might be that she simply lacks in the common sense department.

However, I am certain that she was the kind of person that you would not want to leave to her own devices.

It was only a gut feeling on my end, but I was sure that this was actually the case here.

「Actually, I was against Kanade-chan leaving the village in the first place.」

「I-Is that so……?」

「Her father said that this might be a great opportunity for her to actually learn about the world and experience new things, but I wasn’t so sure about that. And I was worried…… After all, she’s still just a child. I wouldn’t have to worry like that if she was a little bit older, but I don’t think Kanade-chan is ready to travel the world just yet.」

「Geez, Mom! I’m telling you, I’m not a child anymore! I am already a fully grown adult!」

「But that’s only when we talk about your age, wouldn’t you agree? Kanade-chan, let’s face it, when it comes to the majority of things, you tend to be pretty unreliable at best. Didn’t you run out of food on your journey and pass out at the side of the road from hunger at least once?」

「Ugh!?」

That’s actually exactly what happened, so Kanade was at a loss for words, unable to even argue.

「I understand your desire to travel and see the world. I really do. I agree with your father about going out into the world to broaden your horizons, but I don’t think that you are ready for that kind of journey just yet. But I think it’s too early to tell whether or not this is a right decision or not.. You are just a child, Kanade-chan. There’s no need for you to rush things. When you are older, you’ll be ready to go on a new journey, but for the time being, we have decided that the best thing for us to do is to bring you back home with me.」

「I see…… But, everyone in the village agreed to let me go on this journey, did they not?」

「No, that’s not it at all. You just left the village of your own accord, before the matter could have been properly debated and decided. And since everyone in the village said it was a good opportunity for Kanade-chan to become a full-fledged adult, and instead of stopping you, they covered for you and did not do anything. And the only reason I was so late in chasing after you was because I had to go to every single person in the village and deliver onto them a good spanking so that they would see the errors of their ways.」

…… Do my ears deceive me, or did we just heard something utterly disturbing, by any chance?

It was then that Kanade leaned towards me and whispered softly into my ear:

「…… Knowing Mother, she is not lying about that. She could have literally gone and spanked every single person in the entire village as punishment for letting me go.」

「Don’t tell me…… Is Suzu-san actually some sort of master martial artist or something like that?」

「Actually, Mom is the strongest person in the entire village.」

「Really now?」

So, is she just like a mini version of Kanade? Or is it perhaps the other way around?

Looking at her, with that warm smile on her lips and friendly expression on her face, you would never even think that she was someone who would be dubbed as “the strongest” by others.

But here we are, with Suzu-san actually being the pinnacle of the Cat Spirit Tribe.

In other words, as far as Ultimate Species are concerned, wouldn’t that make her the Strongest of the Strong?

I finally understood the reason for my intuition that I should never underestimate this person.

「So come on now, Kanade-chan. Let’s go home together.」

「No!　I’m not coming home, okay?」

「Oh, yes, that’s right. How short sighted of me. You couldn’t possibly go back home without saying proper goodbye to the people who were taking care of you, right? Then how about this: I will give you one day to say your proper goodbyes, and then we go back. How about that?」

Kanade screamed like a madman and scratched her head hysterically.

Yes, I think so, too. Suzu-san was a pretty difficult person to communicate with.

But well, it’s also hard to calm yourself down when someone just came to you and said to you that you are going to go back home whether you like it or not.

「Suzu-san, you said you were worried about Kanade because you think that she’s still just a child, right? But that’s not true. I think Kanade is a fine adult and a full-fledged Cat Spirit Tribe member.」

「Yes…… But still, that is only your opinion, and nothing more.」

「Is there anything that we can do to convince you otherwise?」

「I’m afraid that you can’t.」

Although her tone was soft, Suzu-san’s intentions hidden behind it were ice cold.

「You should really respect Kanade’s decision whether she wants to return back home or not. Forcing her to go back will only undermine the trust between you and Kanade.」

「I know more about Kanade-chan than you could possibly know, don’t you think so? I don’t think that’s a point of concern at all.」

「Now hold on just a minute!」

As we continued to talk, Tania interrupted us abruptly.

And it was not just Tina. Tanya looked really angry as well.

Sora, Luna and Nina are there, too.

「All this time, you have only been saying whatever the hell that you wanted to say, without really listening to what other people have to say in that matter. Kanade is not a child anymore. She’s a fully-fledged member of the Cat Spirit Tribe. I know that you are her parent and all that, but you can’t just barge into her independent life like that and tell her what to do!」

「I’m sorry to barge in on the conversation in such a rude manner. My name is Sola, and I’m from the Spirit Tribe. Will you please reconsider bringing Kanade back home?　Kanade is a valued companion for all of us, after all.」

「Umu, Sora’s right! Kanade is very important to us. We wouldn’t want you to proceed with the idea of bringing her back home against her will like that!」

「Umm, this is, well…… Nina also…… doesn’t want to…… say goodbye to Kanade…… if she can help it…… I want to…… be with her some more……」

Everyone who was listening to the conversation couldn’t keep quiet any longer and they all joined in.

Each of them eagerly complained about wanting to be with Kanade and refusing to accept her coming back home.

As expected, hearing this, there was no way that Suzu-san could keep quiet for much longer, and her expression suggested that she was at a loss as to what to do.

There was a moment of silence that completely filled the room.

After a while, Suzu-san opened her mouth.

「…… Okay then. How about we put that to the test?」

「A test?」

「Yes, a test. A test that is going to make it clear…… If my Kanade-chan is really the marvelous and fully-fledged adult that you all think that she is.」
