Beast Tamer Who Got Kicked Out From the Hero’s Party Chapter 110 Part 1
CHAPTER 110: SUZU’S TEST *1* PART 1
Just like that, it was decided that our party would be put to the test to see if Kanade was truly a full-fledged adult that we were estimating her to be.
If we were to pass the test, Suzu-san would return home without pestering Kanade to come back with her.
However, if we were to fail the test, Kanade would be forced to come back home to the Cat Spirit Tribe’s village alongside her mother.
A promise was made that if he failed the test, Kanade would be taken back to the village.
Suzu’s test was to be held immediately after we came to this agreement.
We walked out of the house and went straight out of town.
After walking for a while, we came to the forest near the city’s gate.
「Alright then, this is where the first test is going to take place.」.
When we had entered the depths of the forest and traveled deeper for a little while, Suzu, who was walking in the lead, came to a stop.
She then turned around and looked straight at us.
…….. By the way, since it was noon now, it was decided that Tina would stay back at home.
She said that she would like to be there for the very last test and that she would join us all later on, but for the time being……
Tina must have been actually quite depressed that she couldn’t help us in a time of need like this one.
I will have to make it up to her somehow later on.
But aside from that.
Right now, we had to pass Suzu-san’s first test.
And about that.
「The first test will determine the true strength of the bond that you all share.」
「The bond that we share?」
「According to you all, Kanade-chan is a splendid Adventurer that contributes greatly to your daily efforts. As an Adventurer, you need to be able to work together with your friends in order to succeed. In other words, it’s all about the bond between you and your friends. If you don’t have a good bond with your fellow Adventurers, you won’t be able to continue in this line of work for long.」
Yes, that made a whole lot of sense.
There was nothing wrong with what Suzu-san said just now.
But how exactly were we supposed to measure the strength of our bond?
「To be perfectly honest with you…… Amongst you all, there is one person in particular who is cooperating with me for this exact test.」
「Huh?」
「I talked to that person beforehand and they agreed to cooperate with me for the time being. That’s how we can conduct this test in the first place.」
「N-No, this cannot be……」
Hearing that, I cast a quick glance at everyone’s faces, one after another.
They all shook their heads in negation in unison, as if they did not know what that was all about, and that it was the first time that they have heard about it.
「Oh, there’s no use trying to confirm the truth with them. I made sure to make it worth their while to remain silent until the end.」
「Why would you even go and do something like that in the first place……」
「At first, it was so that I could gather some nice assistants to convince Kanade-chan to go back home with me, since I never would have anticipated that this would be so hard to do, but…… Since it’s also a good opportunity, I thought I might as well use their assistance to perform this test. The first test is actually going to be figuring out who exactly my collaborator here is. If you all share a genuine bond with one another, this should be really easy, wouldn’t you agree?」
「……………」
「By the way, Rein-san is one hundred percent not my collaborator, if that matter needed any real clarification at this point. I can assure you of that. So, it will be your responsibility to find the traitor amongst your own ranks, Rein-san.」
「So I’m supposed to be the one to find out who’s connected to you in some way, Suzu-san?」
「’Yes, that’s precisely what I mean. Umm, well…… I think it would be way too difficult without any kind of hint for you, so I will allow you to ask your party members one question at a time. However, if you get even one answer wrong, it will be all over. You are going to be out. So failure is not allowed here, okay? Please bear that in mind.」
「That’s actually a lot of responsibility to take.」
「Come on, Rein! Do your best!」
Kanade was cheering me on with her usual bright and cheerful voice.
Since this is a test, then I can’t possibly allow myself to fail it!
A traitor amongst our own ranks…… Someone who is connected to Suzu-san in some way…… Hmm?
To tell the truth, I had arrived at a certain possible answer to that question when I heard the explanation just now.
However, it was not like I was one hundred percent sure of that answer.
Let’s ask everyone those questions and find out if my suspicion is actually true or not.
First of all, Tanya.
That’s right. What question should I ask Tanya?
I thought for a moment and then opened my mouth to speak.
「Hey, Tanya? What do you think of Kanade?
「What do I think of her…… I mean, you asked me that, but I don’t think of her in any special way, you know? It might sound weird, but it’s not like I consider her to be my friend or anything like that…… B-But, well, it would be true if I said that I would be somewhat sad if she was gone from our party just like that…… So I don’t want her to leave. No matter what.
「I see. Thank you.」
Next one, there would be a question for Sora.
But what should I do now?
I mean, Sora is always that one person who has a quick wit about her, so she might have arrived at the same idea as me already.
Given that possibility I will just ask her honestly.
「Who do you think is the traitor out of all of you, Sora?」
「What a foolish question. Isn’t the answer to that question already solidified in your mind, Rein?」
「Is that your honest answer, Sora?」
「Yes. Sora is going to support whatever choice that you choose to make, Rein.」
「I see. Thank you.」
Next up is Luna.
Luna is someone who has an excellent intuition.
Just like Sora, she’s really quick-witted, but she has the second keenest intuition after Kanade in our group.
So the question I should be asking Luna should be……
「How do you feel about Suzu-san, Luna?」
「…… Huh? What do you mean?」
「Don’t try to think too hard about this one. Just give me your honest opinion. The very first thing that comes to your mind. Do you think she’s a good mother, for example? That kind of thing.」
