Beast Tamer Who Got Kicked Out From the Hero’s Party Chapter 119 Part 1
CHAPTER 119: PREPARING FOR THE FUTURE PART 1
「Special Training……?」
Personally, I couldn’t help it but to twitch slightly upon hearing those unexpected words.
Everyone else was surely as surprised as I was about that.
The words “Special Training” doesn’t ring a bell in my head.
Or rather, what kind of special training Suzu-san had in her mind?
Normally, it was supposed to be a way to hone your combat skills past their normal limits……
But why would Suzu-san even propose such a thing to us?
「Umm…… By special training, you mean combat-oriented training, right?」
「Yes, that’s right. Besides that, is there anything else you would ever want to dub as “Special Training”?」
When I asked her about that, Suzu-san nodded with a smirk on her face.
Since it was Suzu-san that we were talking about here, wouldn’t that mean that she would come up with some truly ridiculous and crazy special training routine for us all? A thought like that came to my mind.
She seemed like an easy person to understand, but truth to be told, I was having a really rough time trying to understand what was going on through that head of hers.
「Why would you ever propose such a thing to us right now?」
「Hmm…… You want me to be honest with you? Completely honest?」
「Yeah, go right ahead.」
「It’s because you are weak, Rein-san. You and your companions.」
「Ugh.」
Talk about a true reality check.
Honestly, Suzu-san could say whatever she wanted to say, for all that I care.
But it’s just that…… There are some things that you would always find really difficult to agree with.
I mean, we are still relatively new to this entire adventuring business, and it’s only been a short amount of time since our party formed, but……
I think that we have done a fair amount of field work in that short amount of time.
I have dealt with a variety of people, fought many different monsters, and that one time we even took on a genuine Demon and managed to emerge victorious out of this battle.
But even so, it’s a bit off-putting to be called weak by someone who was effectively a stranger to us.
Then Suzu-san, who seemed to see right through my inner thoughts, said, “I’m sorry, that sounded really bad”.
「I’m really sorry. I didn’t mean to humiliate you or your friends, Rein-san. It’s just that you are proud of all of your achievements, right? But are you really sure that those achievements aren’t clouding your judgment? Even a little bit?」
Once again, Suzu-san came through as someone really blunt.
「In that case, let me rephrase my question: Rein-san? Would you consider yourself and your party members as strong?」
「T-This is……」
When I was asked that question completely out of the blue like that, I had no idea how I should even answer her.
Are we really strong?
Do we have enough power behind our belt to be able to say with all due certainty?
It was something that I couldn’t answer her clearly, no matter how hard I would try to think about it.
So I thought back to that time when we took on that Demon that emerged in the middle of the city.
At that time, we all fought as hard as we could, but we were unable to deliver a decisive blow to it, over and over again. This only served to prolong the fight and the destruction that it had wrought.
What if we were unable to team up against that Demon?
What would have happened if one of our core members would be unable to fight?
The Demon certainly would not be defeated, and it would be let loose to bring destruction to everything around it, without anyone being able to stop it.
A great deal of damage could have been created to the city and its surroundings as a result.
So in the end……
.
We are relying purely on our numbers and the high specs of our party members, isn’t that right?
「Since you are not talking back or defending your opinion, can I take it that you agree with my assessment of your party?」
Suzu-san said with a look in her eyes as if she was trying to look directly into my hearts’ deepest recesses.
It was a little bit frustrating to admit, but……
But there was no point in trying to look cool or defying her, so I only gave her a small nod of confirmation.
「I don’t think I’m strong. Not at all.」
「Even though you have all those Ultimate Species backing you up? Including my Kanade-chan? Even though, Rein-san, you were able to unite them all and gained much power from the contracts that you have signed with them?」
「If we are talking purely about the specs, I think that we are as strong as everyone else out there, maybe slightly stronger. Yes, it’s not the specs that we are lacking here. It’s just that……」
「It’s just that……?」
「We lack the skills that would let us utilize our strength to its full potential.」
Everyone here has never had any combat training before.
Kanade did not hone her combat skills because she left her village because she wanted to see the outside world with her own eyes.
Nina was still a child and was only enshrined until Edgar kidnapped her, so it’s a given that she never before had to defend herself.
I heard that Tanya had been on a journey combined with training to hone her skills, but as far as her combat skills go, we are yet to see any of those with our own eyes.
Sora and Luna apparently learned offensive magic to protect the gate that leads to the Village of the Spirit Tribe in the middle of the Lost Forest, but they did not seem to have learned how to handle it very efficiently quite yet.
Tina is just a ghost, so there’s no chance for her to be able to fight.
And I’m all self-taught, except for my Taming skills.
When I was in the Hero’s Party before, I was left to do only the basic chores connected to maintaining the camp and logistics, and I had no time for any of the actual combat practice……
So even though we were fighting against strong opponents, my combat skills were leaving much to be desired.
…….. All because we never actually encountered a situation that required our combat skills to be pushed to their very limits, or even way beyond that.
「There have been many things that have happened in the past, but the reason we have been able to overcome them is because everyone’s specs as individuals were so high in the first place……」
「Hmm, I see.」
Suzu-san nodded her head with a satisfied look on her face after hearing my words.
Then she clasped her hands together and said with a smile:
「Alright! You passed!」
「What?」
「It’s really hard to admit one’s own weaknesses, especially when one has some amount of power and successes behind one’s belt…… But you, Rein-san, were able to face yourself properly and admit your own weaknesses, which is not an easy thing to do. That’s not something that even a seasoned veteran would be able to do. As long as you don’t forget that kind of attitude, you can still become stronger. Much stronger.」
