CHAPTER 120: AT THE FAR END PART 1

Arios and his Party eventually left River’s End and headed further South from there.

From there, they took a course towards the West.

The Southern Continent was generally divided into the gentle and flat plains to the East, and the various ranges of steep mountains to the West.

As for Arios and his Party, they entered the mountains and headed straight into them, going deeper and deeper.

「Ahh, geez! This is so annoying!」

Since this land was pretty much an uncharted territory without any signs of human settlements and civilization in general, the only roads they could use to push forward were some wild animal trails.

At some points, the vegetation here seemed to be so thick that it would block their path forward and they would be forced to find an alternative route.

They would try to clear the bushes and vegetation the best they could along the way, but it was a whole lot of hard work and it was not something that was gaining them any speed.

Frustrated by this situation that they have found themselves in, Rin grumbled loudly.

「There’s ivy everywhere and it tangles into my clothes! Not to mention all those nasty bugs……! Haah…… I really need a nice and long bath after that……」

「Rin, please don’t be so selfish. We have a noble cause to fulfill here, and because of that we need to continue our journey as fast as possible.」

Although Mina would admonish her for her complaints all the time, Rin did not seem to care about that at all, just shrugging her shoulders at her colleague and answering with a lackluster “Yeah, yeah”.

However, since that kind of scene was pretty much a common occurrence nowadays, Arios and Aggath did not pay any mind to that, having better things to do.

The only one here who seemed to be concerned about Rin’s condition was the Adventurer that they hired at River’s End, and who was currently leading the way.

「Hm? What’s wrong? Did something happen?」

Arios noticed that the Adventurer was glancing at Rin through his shoulder and called out to him.

The Adventurer only smiled affectionately as if to cover up his slip-up just now.

「O-Oh, no, no, it’s nothing, really. It’s just that…… if I may be so bold here, it’s actually surprising to see the Hero and his Party have such a human side to them. That’s all.」

「Even though I am a Hero, I am still human, just like everyone else around me. So if we are walking around the mountains for so long without any visible progress, it’s only natural that we are going to start feeling tired and irritated.」

「That is why we are counting on you. Don’t let us down.」

「Please, just leave this to me.」

For an Adventurer like this one, being relied on by the Hero’s Party was a once in a lifetime opportunity. So he had to make this one count.

That is why the Adventurer was leading the way without a single complaint, as if his very life was suddenly depending on it.

Or, to be more precise, he was the second one in the lead.

Because the first creature to sort of blaze the trail here was the monster that he was using, the Bloody Bear.

As the name of that monster might have suggested, it was a large bear-like monster.

It was a monster comparable to a C Rank monster, and was regarded as the Lord of the Mountains across the entire land.

And it just so happened that this here Adventurer managed to tame a monster like that and make it his familiar.

As to who that Adventurer was, he was a Beast Tamer, and the one who was particularly well known across the entire southern continent.

His abilities were said to be quite outstanding, and he was able to tame not only regular animals, but also wild monsters.

They happened to come across that Beast Tamer by a complete accident, as he was visiting one of the rural villages in the region while being on his vacation.

Sensing that it was their opportunity to make their journey a little bit easier and slightly more bearable, the Hero’s Party approached the man and offered him the opportunity to work for them.

And that’s how the man became their trailblazer.

「But I must say, I was really surprised back then.」

「Huh? Surprised? With what, exactly?」

The Adventurer looked at Arios’ face in puzzlement, seemingly not understanding the meaning of his words just now.

「The fact that a mere Beast Tamer can also tame monsters and use them as his familiar. I know that this might be a little bit of a stretch here, but isn’t a Beast Tamer one of the weakest jobs out there? The one that anyone would ever want to be?　And yet you are using a C Rank monster, making it listen to your orders as if it was the most natural thing for you to do. Arios then looked at the Adventurer from the tip of his toes to the top of his head, as if he was some sort of merchant inspecting the merchandise.

This man could be useful to them for the time being.

And since he could tame not only wild beasts but also monsters, he could be useful to them inside and outside of combat.

In light of the world’s common sense, he had unparalleled power for a Beast Tamer.

So if he was to join Arios’s Party, he would surely contribute a great deal to making their journey that much easier.

But after considering things that far, for some reason Rein’s face flickered in Arios’ mind out of the blue.

「Oh yes, that’s right. I have a small question for you, if you wouldn’t mind?」

「Yes, what is it?」

「Do you think it would be possible for you to tame and use the members of the Ultimate Species?」

「Say what now? The members of the Ultimate Species?」

The Adventurer looked at Arios with an even more puzzled expression than before.

「No! No, no, no! There is no way. It’s impossible. It’s pretty much impossible to tame the members of the Ultimate Species, and much less possible to use them in battle. I don’t think that there exists someone who would ever be capable of such a crazy feat.」

「Hmm, I see.」

Hearing those words, something inside of Arios started to rapidly cool down.

If that man is incapable of doing the things that Rein was capable of, then his Party has no need for a useless chump like him.
