Beast Tamer Who Got Kicked Out From the Hero’s Party Chapter 124 Part 2

CHAPTER 124 PART 2

「Oh my? What happened, Rein-san?」

Turning around upon being called by someone, I saw Suzu-san entering the backyard.

「What’s wrong? Having trouble with falling asleep, perhaps?」

「Yeah, umm…… I guess, that’s kind of it.」

Suzu-san approached me and stood right next to me.

Just like I did a moment ago, she gazed up at the night sky.

「It’s a beautiful starry sky.」

「Yes, for some reason it gives me a feeling that it might suck me right into itself at any moment now.」

「Fufufu, that’s an interesting expression. I might borrow it sometimes.」

Suzu-san smiled and laughed wholeheartedly.

Looking at her like this, once again it was hard for me to believe that she was actually Kanade’s mother…….

At best, I would say that the two of them were sisters, but nothing else besides that.

Because they looked and behaved just like sisters would, at least in my own opinion.

「Hm? What’s the matter? Is there something on my face, perhaps?」

「O-Oh, no, it’s nothing…… But come to think of it, what are you going to do from now on, Suzu-san?」

After all, the Special Training was now all done and over with, which also meant that Suzu-san’s role as our instructor was over as well.

Her original goal was to bring Kanade back home with her.

But if that was the case, then what was she going to do from now on?

「I am going to go back home, of course.」

「O-Oh, so you are leaving, then……」

「Oh my, you sound sad to hear that. Could it be that you wanted to enjoy my company here some more?」

「Well…… Yeah, I guess that you could say that.」

「Oh my. Talk about you being surprisingly straightforward, Rein-san.」

「I mean, since we have spent so much time together like this, it’s only going to be natural to feel sad and bummed out when one of your companions decides to leave. Besides, I’m sure that Kanade would be more than happy to have you around for a little while longer.」

「Hmm, is that right? Kanade-chan is a girl of her age too, so I’m sure she won’t feel comfortable with her parent around all the time to inhibit her freedom, you know?」

「Ah…… W-Well, maybe you are right about that one. But Kanade seems to be a rather obedient child to me, is she not? I think she’s happy to be with you, Suzu-san, despite what she might be saying.」

The image of Kanade smiling right next to Suzu-san popped inside of my mind, saying “Oh well, I guess tha Mom cannot really be helped!”

Seemingly having imagined something very similar to my own vision, Suzu-san also smiled.

「Fufu, when you say it like that, it really makes me feel like I managed to do a good job as a Mother, you know?」

「So, are you still going to go back home? If you want to stay a little longer with us, we have some extra rooms to spare at the moment.」

「Thank you for the kind offer. I’m glad you feel that way, you know, Rein-san? But I can’t indulge in your kindness forever like this…… And if I’m not there, it would surely spell some trouble for the entire Cat Spirit Tribe village.」

「…… I see.」

When you are the strongest person in your village, you probably have a lot of work to do to meet everyone’s expectations.

So it’s not like I have any right to stop her from going back.

「Rein-san.」

「…… Yes?」

All of a sudden, Suzu-san’s face turned deadly serious, a complete opposite of her usual, playful expression.

「Please be careful from now on, Rein-san.」

「Umm…… Whatever that is supposed to mean, Suzu-san?」

「…… I’m sorry. I can’t say what that is for sure, but I have a really bad feeling about the future for some reason.」

「A bad feeling……? Like, a premonition……?」

「You see, we the Cat Spirit Tribe are very sensitive to things like presences and signs. It is something that is always with us, and only gets stronger with age. So, when you are someone of my age, you tend to get a bad feeling or a premonition about some things from time to time. And it certainly doesn’t help that those premonitions always seem to be very accurate. Not that I want to have feelings like that, or take pride in their accuracy, but……」

Suzu-san chuckled slightly, not finishing her sentence.

「Can’t you be a little more specific about that bad feeling of yours?」

「I’m sorry. I can’t really say anything more about it…… it’s just that for a little while now, I have been feeling a bit of a stirring in my chest…… if I had to put it in any concrete way it’s like having a natural enemy standing right in front of you.」

「A natural enemy, huh……?」

The one saying that was the Strongest of the Cat Spirit Tribe, a being with exceptionally sharp instincts and great power. And a benign like that sounded so worried right now.

It would be best not to dismiss it as a mere premonition, then.

「Believe me, if I could, I would have liked to stay with you, too, but…….」

「You can’t really stay with us all the time with circumstances like that, huh? It can’t be helped. You have got other, more important things to do, Suzu-san.」

「It’s really nice to hear you say that, Rein-san.」

Suzu-san held my hand in her own hands.

In that state, she stared into my eyes.

「Can I please leave Kanade-chan in your care from now on?」

「…… Yes, of course. I promise you that I will take care of Kanade at all times.」

Kanade is my precious companion, after all.

No matter what happens, I will always protect her.

I nodded my head firmly with that intention in my mind.

Suzu-san smiled brightly, seemingly reassured by the display of my attitude.

「When I hear you say that, it really makes me feel relieved, Rein-san. Now then, if only Kanade-chan’s wish was to be fulfilled sooner rather than later, then everything would be perfect here.」

「Kanade’s wish? fulfilled?」

「Oh, it’s nothing, really. Think nothing of it for now.」

What was she talking about just now?

Suzu-san seemed to have noticed something about Kanade that apparently I had no idea about, but what would that something be……?

Hmm, no, it’s no use…… No matter how hard I try to think about it, nothing comes to my mind right now.

「Well then…… I think that I am going to go to sleep now.」

「Is that so? Good night, then.」

「You too, Rein-san. Just make sure that you are not going to stay up too late into the night, okay?」

「Yes, I know. Thank you for reminding me. I will stay here for a little while longer, and then I will go to sleep myself.」

「Alright, talk about a perfect answer. So, once again, good night, Rein-san.」

Suzu-san smiled at me and walked back into the house after a moment.

I saw her back for as long as she disappeared into the house…… and then I looked up at the night sky once again.

「…… A bad premonition, huh?」

I mumbled to myself. Even though the night sky was so beautiful right now, there seemed to be a sort of disturbing presence approaching somewhere in the distance, and I felt a chill in the air, as well as one running down my spine.
