CHAPTER 125: AN EMERGENCY REQUEST PART 1

The next morning.

Everyone came to see Suzu-san off as she was getting ready to head back home to the Cat Spirit Tribe’s village.

「Well then, everyone, I guess that this is goodbye. Thank you for all of your kindness and hospitality.」

「No, no, no. If there was ever someone who should be thanking here it should be us. Thank you so much for all of the help that you have given us.」

「Come back to visit anytime you feel like it!　When you come visit us next time around, I will treat you to plenty of my own cooking!」

「That actually sounds great. Maybe Sora should also try her hand in the kitchen to show her appreciation to Suzu-san?」

「Umm, yeah, like, no…… No offense, Sister Dearest, but you should really refrain from going into the kitchen ever again……」

「I will also do my very best in the food department the next time around.」

While engaging in their usual sisterly bickering, Sora and Luna saw Suzu-san off, with Tina accompanying them with a bright and cheerful smile on her face as well.

「W-Well, I guess that you have helped us all a whole lot, in more ways than one. And since you have helped me to become even stronger than I already was…… I-I mean, I guess that I should technically thank you? But only because it’s a common courtesy to do that!」

「Tanya…… Are you a “tsundere”, by any chance?」

「H-HUH!? N-Nina-!? Who the hell taught you that word!?」

Tanya and Nina were actually interacting with one another in a really interesting way as well.

「Mom……」

「Hm? What’s wrong, Kanade-chan?」

It was now Kanade’s turn to face Suzu-san.

The reunion between mother and daughter after such a long time was now going to come to an end, and it was time for them to say their goodbyes.

Kanade seemed to be particularly aware of that fact, and she was clearly having some mixed feelings about this.

I know that we have been through a lot ever since Suzu-san showed up in town, but……

Quite understandably, it was going to be really hard for Kanade to be separated from her Mother once again.

「Take care of yourself out there, Kanade-chan.」

「Y-Yeah…… And you make sure to do the same, Mom.」

「You have to promise me that you will be careful and that you won’t catch a cold, alright?　And make sure that you sleep under the covers. And don’t even think about sleeping naked or anything crazy like that!」

「I-I would never do something like that……」

「Oh, really now? Back in the village, you would do that all the time, saying that it was too hot for your liking and……」

「WAAAHHH!!! WAAAH! WAAAH! WAAAH! M-Mom! Rein is still here, you know!? And he doesn’t need to know that! So you don’t need to say unnecessary stuff like that! You’re embarrassing me!」

「Oh my, oh my, if you are so easily flustered by something as trivial as that, I’m afraid that you are going to have a really hard time in the future. Especially that Rein-san seems to be really dull when it comes to things like that.」

「Ugh, uhhh…… M-Mom? Could it be that you actually……?」

「Fufufu, but no matter what happens, know that I am rooting for you!」

「…… Nyaaahhh.」

There was a conversation between mother and daughter that seemed utterly incomprehensible for me to understand, but because of that exact conversation Kanade’s ears flattened and she looked slightly distressed.

What on earth could that possibly mean? I was really curious about that.

But oh well…… Without being able to understand what that was all about, there was no way that I would be able to figure that out anytime soon, no matter how hard and how long I would try.

「Now then…… I guess that it really is going to be a shame to leave this place, but oh well. I guess there’s nothing that I can do about it.」

Suzu-san nodded her head and took a step forward.

She then turned around to face us one last time.

She looked at each and every single one of us with a smile, and then she bowed her head down.

「Once again, everyone. Thank you for everything.」

「You are welcome.」

I returned her polite words with some warm words of my own.

Following my example, everyone else also bowed their heads while saying polite farewells.

「Alright then, I guess I will be seeing you guys around!」

Suzu-san smiled at us one more time, waved her hand and turned her back to us. This time for good.

She then started to walk away just like that…… and soon enough her back was starting to get smaller and smaller, so that we could barely even see her anymore.

「Mom!」

It was at that time that Kanade stepped forward and let out a loud voice towards the direction where Suzu-san was headed.

「Be seeing you! And watch yourself out there!」

I could have been wrong about that, but I thought that I saw Suzu-san turning around really quick and waving her hand at us. I could also swear that there was a bright smirk visible on her face.

And just like that, the figure of leaving Suzu-san soon completely disappeared into the distance.

With that, the proper send-off was finally over, and an indescribable feeling of emptiness and nostalgia filled the atmosphere between the members of our party.

「…… Haah.」

In the midst of it all, it was Kanade who had a somewhat refreshed look on her face as she let out a short sigh of relief.

I was sure that she would be feeling somewhat lonely for the time to come, but……

At the very least, she was able to give her mother a proper send off, and the relationship between the two of them seemed to be very good.

So I guess it was that Kanade herself felt that there was no need for her or any one of us to be all that hung up over the matter of Suzu-san going back home.

「Say, Rein!」

「Yes?」

「For some strange reason, I get this urge to just move my body! So I could really use some exercise right about now! That is why, that is why! Let’s go to the Adventurers’ Guild!」

「…… You know what? You’re right, Kanade. We have been doing nothing else but train as of late, so it’s actually been a while since we last took some request from the Guild to work on.」

There was not even any point in discussing Kanade’s idea, as I was sure that no one here would be willing to oppose it.

Actually, I was sure that everyone would agree to that, as they basically shared Kanade’s opinion in that regard.

「Well then, I guess Sora and Luna will be waiting at home for the time being. We need to clean up and prepare some food for dinner.」

「No, Sister Dearest. There is no need for you to cook. I will take care of that, so you go handle the cleaning, okay?」
